Jolly Roger, The King O' The Pirates and The Legend of Anne Bonny will be performed by the Canal Fulton Players on the St. Helena III Canal Boat, Canal Fulton Canal Way Center, 125 Tuscarawas Street West, Canal Fulton, Ohio, on June 17-18, 24-25 at 6:00 pm. The dinner theatre cruise includes a dinner prepared by Canal Grille, a boat ride on the St. Helena III and the performance of the two plays which begins at 6:00 pm every night. Auditions for Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" will occur (by Appt. Only!) on Sunday June 18th and Monday June 19th @ The Beck Center in Lakewood with available slots between 6PM and 9PM. The production will be directed by Eric Schmeidl (Beck Center's "Velocity of Autumn") Audition appointments will be taken starting at 1PM on Thursday, June 8th by calling 216-521-2540 x10. Do not call prior, as the Beck Box Office will not be able to assign you a time until then. Actors will be provided {via e-mail} sides for their audition several days prior to your appt. Be sure the box office takes down your e-mail address correctly! Performance Dates for "Waiting For Godot" (in Beck's intimate Studio Theatre) are Friday. Oct. 6th thru Sunday Nov. 5th. Rehearsals will begin in late August or early September. It is anticipated that Two (2) AEA contracts (Tier One Special Appearance) will be available. All non-Equity actors 18 years of age and older will receive a stipend for their participation as well. Below are character descriptions and a Director's note: ESTRAGON (Gogo): Male. 45 – 70’s. Any cultural background. Sensitive. Forgetful. Sweet. Wispy. An old theatre performer who has spent a lifetime on stage with Vladimir. In this way his banter with Vladimir follows a seasoned rhythm and pace. He plays the gentle part in their act, though he is prone to moments of childish self-pity. He also has issues with his feet. VLADIMIR (Didi): Male. 45 – 70’s. Any cultural background. Intellectual. Hard-edged. Big-hearted. Solid. An old theatre performer who has spent a lifetime on stage with Estragon. In this way his banter with Estragon follows a seasoned rhythm and pace. He plays the blustery part in their act, though he is prone to moments of deep sympathy. He also has issues with his prostate. POZZO: Male. 40’s – 60’s. Any cultural background. Terrible. Arrogant. Massive. Not as nimble and clever as Estragon and Vladimir, he still demands attention and a space in which to perform. His physical size compensates for his lack of theatrical, emotional, and intellectual dexterity. While imposing, he does recognize the limitations of his skill, talent, and confidence. LUCKY: Male. 50’s – 70’s. Any cultural background. Ragged. Hollowed. Methodic. Resilient. Once a man of letters he is now a jumble of thoughts and ideas. A BOY: Male. 8 – 12. Any cultural background. Timid. Innocent. Responsible. The young spokesperson for Godot. He also watches the goats. LILLY June 19, 2017 | 7PM Karamu House Jelliffe Theatre (Cleveland, OH) Karamu House, in collaboration with NYC-based Project 1VOICE, will once again collaborate to produce the annual 1PLAY, 1DAY international event with a staged reading of the play YELLOWMAN on June 19, 2017 at Karamu's historic Jelliffe Theatre located at 2355 East 89th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. Karamu House continues its commitment to producing socially-relevant material and delivering culturally-responsive arts programs for the community. Karamu will host the staged reading of Yellowman a memory play following the tragically intertwined love story between Alma, a large, dark-skinned black woman and Eugene, a tall, light-skinned black man from childhood to adulthood. Yellowman takes place in the Gullah community in South Carolina in the 1960s. It poetically examines intra-racial discrimination, cyclical abuse, class, alcoholism and racism. Produced in collaboration with Project 1 Voice staged readings of Yellowman will take place in 45 theatres in 3 countries. Project 1VOICE is a not-for-profit performing arts service organization, based in New York City, dedicated to the promotion and support of Black theater and playwrights. Project 1VOICE's signature initiative is 1VOICE / 1PLAY / 1DAY. Each year, on the third Monday in June, Project1VOICE presents an international event with over 200 coordinated events, in person and via live streaming. Since 2011, theaters and cultural institutions across the country and around the world have presented staged readings of a classic play or musical by an African-American writer or composer - "1PLAY," simultaneously on "1DAY". The inaugural program took place in fifteen cities across the United States. Yellowman is being presented with special permission granted by Dramatic Play Services, INC. This play contains mature themes, brief violence and strong language. DAEL ORLANDERSMITH (Playwright) was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and Drama Desk Award nominee for Outstanding Play and Outstanding Actress in a Play for Yellowman. She is the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant, The Helen Merrill Award for Emerging Playwrights, a Guggenheim Fellowship and the 2005 PEN/Laura Pels Foundation Award for a playwright in mid-career. She is the recipient of a Lucille Lortel Foundation Playwrights Fellowship and an Obie Award for Beauty's Daughter.
