Cleveland Public Theatre 2017-2018 TEST FLIGHT Request for Proposals TEST FLIGHT proposal DEADLINE EXTENDED to Sunday, June 18th!! CPT's New Play Development CPT's mission is to raise consciousness and nurture compassion through groundbreaking performances and life-changing educational programs. CPT's programming agenda is to produce work that is outside the mainstream, offering a much broader range of work available to the Cleveland public and expanding the impact and originality of theatre across the country. CPT strives to make work that is excellent, extraordinary and nationally competitive. Our new play development programs are based on our years of experience, community input and key principles of: focusing on artists; valuing diversity of approach, aesthetics and perspective; and balancing impact with investment. We envision CPT as a nationally recognized hub for the development of new theatre that is extraordinary, edgy and relevant. We hope to be a model for nurturing local talent in similar sized markets, the most regarded cultivator of new theatre for Cleveland audiences, a laboratory for promising research and investigation and a launcher of nationally significant new plays. Test Flight Based on CPT's success with our Big Box series, Test Flight offers opportunities to artists who are interested in co-producing works with us. Test Flight is a multi-week series where artists are given the keys to the theatre to develop their projects to a workshop level. In addition to serving local artists, Test Flight will also be open to national and international artists who wish to come to Cleveland to develop their pieces. Feedback for this series will be specific to each project, developed by the artist and vetted/approved by CPT. ANNIE GET YOUR GUN scored a bulls eye when it returned to Broadway in 1999, starring Bernadette Peters and sporting a revised libretto by Tony, Oscar and Emmy winner Peter Stone. As Newsday reported, Stone's revisions 'are sweetly ingenious, and the show is a dream.' Stone reshaped the 1946 book to create a Wild West show-within-a-show that frames the ageless 'Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better' love story of sharpshooters Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. Stone has added a secondary romance between the younger sister of Frank's bothersome assistant Dolly, and a boy who is (to Dolly's horror) part Native American. 'The book has been updated in ways that pass p.c. muster,' reported Time Magazine, 'without losing all the fun.' Joined to the new book, of course, is that amazing Irving Berlin score, featuring hit after hit after hit. 'Irving Berlin's greatest achievement in the theater,' wrote the New York Post, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN 'will always be a musical for the ages, one of the Broadway theater's enduring triumphs.' Through puppets, music, movement, improvisation, story-telling and acting, students develop communication skills, teamwork, confidence, and creative expression. The session culminates with a student-created presentation for family and friends that gives kids a taste of what goes into producing and performing a show. TCT Summer Puppet and Mask Camp is open to kids (ages 6-10) and early teens (ages 11-14). The camp runs for one week, Monday through Friday. Students build puppets and masks, and write their own stories to perform for parents and friends at week's end. All masks and puppets made are theirs to keep.
