Based on actual events, MEMPHIS takes place in the underground clubs, radio stations, and recording studios of the segregated 50’s, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun falls in love with rock and roll and an electrifying African American singer Felicia Farrell. MEMPHIS paints a gritty and honest picture of the racial tension and cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music that changed forever. Filled with high-octane dancing, songs that perfectly capture the era, and an absorbing and emotional tale of fame and forbidden love. Rehearsals begin Sunday, July 2nd and will be held Sundays – Thursdays 6:30-10:30pm The production is scheduled to open August 11th and will run through Sept 3rd; with performances on Fridays & Saturdays @ 8:00PM and Sundays @ 2:00PM. This unique half-day workshop will present HAIRSPRAY JR. in one special performance, August 12, on the set of the Mercury Theatre Company’s August production of HAIRSPRAY. Designed for students ages 8-12, the program is a three-week intensive workshop, July 24 – August 11, in which students will expand and hone their theatrical skills in a creative and safe environment. KID COMPANY’s HAIRSPRAY JR. workshop allows you to explore your inner actor while gaining valuable life skills in a positive, supportive environment. Professional actors from the 2017 MTC Company will lead daily workshops designed to instill a deeper understanding about producing and participating in a first-class musical. It's 1962, and spunky, plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has one big dream – to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When she finally gets her shot, she's transformed from social outcast to sudden star.
