Lit Cleveland is excited to announce the program for its upcoming staged reading at Cleveland State University's Student Center Ballroom during this year's Cleveland Humanities Festival on Saturday March 17th and Sunday March 18th at 7 pm. A reception with the actors and writers will follow each performance. 250 people attended the performances last year, so please: Take a minute to register in advance: http://www.litcleveland.org/cleveland-humanities-festival-staged-reading.htm l The hour-long performance, directed by Dale Heinen, is titled I Will Sing for You: Writers on Health, features original work by Northeast Ohio writers Nicholas Cohen, Diane Ferri, Aubrey Hirsch, Ray McNiece, Darlene Montonaro, Robin Pease, Mimi Plevin-Foust, Susan Rakow, Jane Richmond, Elaine Schleiffer, Karen Schubert, Jill Sell, Mary Weems, and Joe Kapitan. The cast is Davis Aguila, Andrea Belser, David Bugher, Anne McEvoy, and Kimberly Sias. Lit Cleveland's call for submissions earlier this year garnered over 180 poems, stories, and plays from writers throughout Northeast Ohio. The moving, often funny works explore issues such as aging, cancer, addiction, mental health, race and poverty, and the inequities in our current health care system. Diane Ferri's moving essay "I Will Sing for You" recounts her final memories of time spent with her aging mother. Philip Metres reflects on finding peace in the midst of a painful concussion as well as the current presidential administration in his essay "Refuge." Playwright Mary Weems encounters the tragedy of addiction in her piece "Pill/Box." Ray McNiece playfully taunts death in his poem "The Bone Orchard Conga," while Joe Kaptian humorously highlights the hypocrisy of health care coverage in his one act play "Minimal Coverage." "Reading the selected pieces, it's striking how relevant, and often how American, these stories are," said director Dale Heinen. "It's a fun, intriguing challenge to craft performances from diverse forms of writing like poetry and essay, and I look forward to sharing our discoveries with festival audiences." That's our philosophy here at Camp Green Lake" AKRON - Weathervane Playhouse is set bring Louis Sachar's Newbery Award-winning Holes to the Founders Theater through March 4, 2018. Evening performances run Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday performances are at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 with special pricing for students and groups of 12 or more. All ticket purchases are subject to additional fees. This production is part of our Weathervane's Emerging Artist series featuring a multi-generational cast. This production of Holes is made possible by a generous donation from Helen Fleming. Based on the Newbery Award-winning young adult mystery/comic novel of the same name - and adapted for the stage by the author himself - Holes tells the story of Stanley Yelnats, a boy who has endured nothing but bad luck thanks to his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather." His bad luck reaches its peak when he is sent to a juvenile detention camp - all for a crime he did not commit! Stanley and the boys are forced to dig large holes in the dirt every day. Hole by hole, day after day, Stanley and his friend Zero dig their destiny. Richard Morris, Jr., the director of Holes, says of the story: "I was first introduced to Holes when my nieces begged me to rent the movie. Since then, I have been captivated by the story. The boys living at Camp Green Lake have all lived hard-luck lives. Each carries the scars of a world that far-too-often forces kids to confront the harsh realities of homelessness, poverty, abuse, absent authority figures, and illiteracy. Though these are difficult topics, the ultimate message of the play is one of hope." The Fine Arts Association announces auditions for: The Fine Arts Association's production of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" Directed & choreographed by Lisa-Marie French About the Show: Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film's Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell's book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo's gothic novel. The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn't the only one captivated by her free spirit, though - the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies - and it's up to Quasimodo to save them all. A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical...Music Theatre International. Canal Fulton Players- Shakespeare in Hollywood open March 9

On March 9-11, 16-18, 2018, the Canal Fulton Players will be presenting the hilarious, raucous comedy Shakespeare in Hollywood by Ken Ludwig. This Samuel French Inc. production deals with the making of the 1935 version of Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. Through a cosmic disturbance, Oberon and Puck are transported to Hollywood when the two actors who are to play their parts in the movie withdraw from the production. The real Oberon and Puck are cast to play themselves and they encounter James Cagney, Dick Powell, Joe E. Brown, and two young actresses, one who will become an icon while the other disappeared into the landscape. Complete with arguing puppets, donkey heads and a rabid censor, this play will make you laugh until your sides hurt. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 pm. Sunday performances are at 3:00 pm. Pine View Acres Theatre is at 4194 Butterbridge Road, North Lawrence, Ohio which is at the corner of Butterbridge and Orrville Roads.
