Of note, The Producers does contain adult language and humor that some may find offensive. But coming from the mind of Mel Brooks, why should this be surprising? Winning a record twelve Tony Awards (including best musical), The Producers is truly a "boffo" hit. Max Bialystock, the one-time king of Broadway producers, is hungry to strike it rich, and Leo Bloom, an accountant with dreams of someday becoming a theatre producer, discover that it could be more lucrative to produce a Broadway flop instead of a huge hit. Songs such as "The King of Broadway" and "I Wanna Be a Producer" help set the wacky tone. Along the way they meet Ulla Inga Hansen Benson Yonsen Tallen-hallen Syaden-svanson, a young and hopeful actress. Though her beauty might eclipse her talent, Ulla is passionate about life and art as she sings "If You've Got It, Flaunt It." The devious duo kick off their scheme by finding a truly atrocious script called "Springtime for Hitler" by Franz Liebkind, a German loyalist playwright. From his lederhosen to his pigeon, Adolph, his love for the motherland is unmistakable. Imposing, yet tender, Franz bonds with Max and Leo with his stirring rendition of "Der Guten Tag Hop-Clop." Next to be recruited is Roger Debris, New York's most flamboyant, and horrendous, stage director. He and his faithful assistant Carmen Ghia insist in song that the secret to success on Broadway is to "Keep it Gay." Another musical highlight is the Busby Berkley-like "Along Came Bialy" that fills the stage with little old ladies strutting their stuff accompanied by their walkers. (In an homage to "La Cage," try and pick out those who aren't really ladies...ok other than those who have facial hair.) However, when what Max and Leo thought would be a bomb turns out to be a smashing success, the plan is thrown off and the partners' lives are thrown into chaos. The Producers will have audiences roaring at the ridiculous accents, caricatures of all kinds, and show business inside jokes. The 16 witty and wacky songs and outrageous dance numbers are sure to make for a night of memorable adult-themed entertainment. Ohio Youth Ensemble Stage Performance Art Production Assistant/Intern Internship Join the Team! Be part of the excitement of the Ohio Youth Ensemble Stage by becoming a Production Assistant with our youth musical in Medina, OH. As a production assistant, you will participate every day in rehearsals with the students. You will learn valuable leadership skills, develop your theater resume, and have fun! We are looking for assistants with a background in acting, directing, dance or stage management. This is a great position for anyone interested in theater education or community-based arts programs. You must be 17 years of age when the program starts May 21. Rehearsals are 2 hours in the evening Monday through Thursday until production week. Performances are June 28-July 1. Assistants will be paid a stipend. All interested applicants will have an interview with the program director and must pass a background check. The Workmen's Circle Klezmer Orchestra is looking for PERCUSSION (small set) string, brass, and woodwind musicians. We are a friendly and diverse group of volunteers under the direction of a professional. We invite prospective new members to our monthly rehearsal. We play at a lot of interesting venues including Cain Park, Music Settlement, One World Day Festival, Legacy Village, Notre Dame College, Porchfest, CircleFest, various senior centers, and many of the Cuyahoga County Libraries. We play or rehearse 2-3 Sunday afternoons a month and occasionally at other times. A pill-popping mother. Three sisters harboring shady little secrets. When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after Dad disappears, their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. Mix in Violet, the drugged-up, scathingly acidic matriarch, and you've got a major new play that unflinchingly—and uproariously—exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family. Directed by: David Lee, Co-Artistic Director Auditions will be held May 29th and 30th from 7-9pm All auditioners are asked to come prepared to cold read from the script. We also ask that you bring a current headshot and resume with you to auditions. Rehearsals will begin June 3rd and will generally be held Sunday-Thursday. CHARACTERS: Beverly Weston (Male, 60-75) - father and patriarch, an alcoholic and one-time world class poet, polite, soulful, melancholic and ultimately suicidal. Violet Weston (Female, 55-70) - mother and matriarch, devious and cynical, suffering from mouth cancer, addicted to prescription drugs, mostly depressants and narcotics, experiences drug-induced episodes but is sharp-tongued and shrewd, aware of the family's many secrets and not hesitant to reveal them for her own benefit. Barbara Fordham (Female, 35-50) - eldest daughter, mother of Jean and wife of Bill, though they are currently separated, a college professor, tries to gain control of her chaotic mother, dilapidated marriage, and pot-smoking 14-year old daughter, wants to save her marriage, but has intense need to control everything around her as it falls apart. Ivy Weston (Female, 35-50) - middle daughter, stereotypical quiet librarian, mousy, only daughter to have stayed back home, teaches at local college, calm and patient exterior hides a passionate woman gradually growing cynical, secretly having an affair with her "cousin", Little Charles, plans to move to New York with him. Karen Weston (Female, 30-45) - youngest daughter, is newly engaged to Steve, whom she considers the "perfect man", lives with him in Florida, planning to marry him soon, can talk of little but her own happiness even at her father's funeral, chooses to lie to herself about her sleazy fiance. Bill Fordham (Male, 40-55) - Barbara's estranged husband and Jean's father, a college professor, he has left his wife for a younger woman, one of his students, but wants to be there for his family, his marriage is disintegrating and his patience is slowly running thin. Jean Fordham (Female, 16-25) - Barbara's and Bill's smart-tongued daughter, smokes pot and cigarettes, is a vegetarian, loves old movies and is bitter about her parents' split, more naive than she would like to believe. Keith Heidebrecht (Male, 40-55) - Karen's fiancé, a Florida businessman (whose business, it is hinted, may be less than legitimate), not the "perfect man" that Karen considers him; sexually molests Jean after the two smoke pot together. Mattie Fae Aiken (Female, 45-60) - Violet's sister, Charlie's wife and Little Charles' mother, as jaded as her sister, constantly belittles her son and antagonizes her husband. Charlie Aiken (Male, 50-65) - Mattie Fae's husband and presumed father of Little Charles, a genial man, was lifelong friend of Beverly, struggles to get Mattie Fae to respect Little Charles. "Little Charlie Aiken (Male, 25-40) - son of Mattie Fae and Beverly but, like everyone else, believes Charlie is his father, unemployed and clumsy, his mother calls him a "screw-up", is secretly having an affair with Ivy, his “cousin”. Johna Monevata (Female, 20-30) - Cheyenne Indian woman, whom Beverly hires as live-in housekeeper shortly before he disappears, Violet is prejudiced against her, but she wins over the other family members with her cooking skills, hard work, and empathy, the silent witness to much of the mayhem in the house. is the most compassionate and morally grounded of all the characters, at times swoops in saving characters from despair and destruction. Play On! A Benefit for The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, May 20

20 years ago, a group of CWRU students noticed Northeast Ohio’s lack of “Shakespeare in the Park”, and so decided to do it themselves! Since those early days performing on the campus of Case, to today’s traveling Festival which plays in public spaces all over Northeast Ohio, CSF has performed for over 40,000 audience members and been named one of the summer’s best art events by both The Plain Dealer and Cleveland Scene. While our productions are FREE to attend, they are NOT free to produce. Costs include: truck rentals, rehearsal and office space, insurance, stipends paid to our performers and production staff, set and costume construction, and much more. We are fortunate to receive support grants from foundations and agencies, but the bulk of our support comes from our audience - whether through after-performance donations or by coming out to our annual fundraiser. This year’s fundraiser, PLAY ON! will be held Sunday, May 20 from 5-8 p.m. at Speakeasy at Bier Market (1948 W. 25 st./Cleveland). Tickets are $25 per person, and include various apps and gourmet pizza provided by the Speakeasy. There will also be a cash-bar, auction and raffle items, and the chance to hob-nob with your pals from CSF. *Shaker Summer Theatre is seeking a Music Director for its 2018 summer camp season. * *Session 1*- *Broadway Standards* (11 June 2018- 29 June 2018) *Session 2*- *Contemporary Broadwa*y (9 July 2018- 27 July 2018) Work hours for both sessions: *Monday through Friday, 8:50am-3:00pm * *Performances dates*: Thursday, 28 June at 7pm Friday, 29 June at 1pm Thursday, 26 July at 7pm Friday, 27 July at 1pm **You must be able to work all of the dates/hours/performances specified above.* Location: John Carroll University's Kulas Auditorium Our Music Director would have several responsibilities that include: 1. Selecting Broadway music for each session. This would include 3 to 4 group numbers (kids range in age from 9 to 16 years old) and several (8 to 12) songs that can be sung by individuals (solos, duets, trios, and/or quartets). The first session is older classic Broadway tunes and the second session is contemporary Broadway tunes. 2. The MD would teach these songs to the students. The group numbers would also entail choreography, so you would be required to act as pianist for those choreographic sessions. 3. To play (just a solo piano) for the two performances each session (see dates above). 4. Keeping students of all skill levels focused, engaged and motivated. 5.
