Near West Theatre announces AUDITIONS for CARNIVAL! Youth Cast (Ages 7 & UP) Auditions - September 4, 5 & 6 Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday Ages 7-12 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Ages 13 & up from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Come ONE of these times, and plan to stay for the entire time specified. Arrive 15 minutes early to register. Anyone arriving after the starting time will not audition that day. This show is a nearly forgotten Broadway treasure dear to my heart, filled with endearingly human characters looking for place, purpose and, yes, love. The score is vibrant, melodic and instantly captivating with heart-wrenching ballads and show-stopping chorus numbers that just keep coming at you. ALL ROLES ARE OPEN, and require actors of diverse age, race, size, physicality and experience. This is a BIG-TOP SHOW needing a large singing/dancing/circus troupe of performers. We will be turning the whole theatre into a carnival of color and light. There is magic, acrobatics, puppets and illusion. Complex themes include mental and physical woundedness, the inability to discern truth from hypocrisy and life's call for change, healing and re-definition. Acclaimed for its simplicity and compassion, Carnival! is an endless parade of color, magic, and dance - and four special puppets sure to win your hearts and imaginations! Jacquot constantly encourages Paul to stick with the carnival and not give up on his puppetry. He is extremely sympathetic towards Lili and helps her adjust to her new life. B. E. SCHLEGEL - The owner of the Grand Imperial Cirque de Paris. Schlegel can be harsh at times, but he ultimately cares for the well-being of the circus and its performers, including Lili whom he hires, fires and then rehires. MARCO THE MAGNIFICENT - A womanizing magician with a long-standing, but rocky relationship with Rosalie. Marco easily seduces Lili with his magic and is able to manipulate and entice her to join his act and fall in love with him. THE INCOMPARABLE ROSALIE - Marco's assistant and love interest. Rosalie is constantly jealous of Marco's relationships with other women - especially the innocent Lili. She is almost engaged to her long-distance suitor, Dr. Glass, but comes to her senses and runs away with Marco to perform their act in fine hotels across Europe. LILI - A young optimistic orphan who comes to the circus in hopes of finding a job. Lili is not the brightest girl and is easily influenced by the people who surround her, especially Marco the Magnificent. After a few failed attempts at other jobs, she ends up becoming the star of Paul's puppet show and must suffer through his biting insults and jealousy. PAUL BERTHALET - A lonely and bitter puppeteer whose dance career was shattered after suffering a crippling war injury. Paul's misanthropic nature alienates him from everyone, including his love, Lili. Paul uses his four puppets: Carrot Top, Horrible Henry, Marguerite and Renardo the Fox to communicate with others, but without the puppets, he struggles to personally communicate with real people. SPs are people who portray patients in cases which are used to train medical learners in Communication Skills. SPs also present as themselves in Physical Diagnosis sessions. Special Project SPs present in a variety of learning simulations with many different caregivers here at CCF. We are located in the Lerner Research Institute on the main Cleveland Clinic campus near University Circle in a dynamic professional and educational environment. - We have sessions every week during the academic year (September to May), along with Special Projects which occur on various dates throughout the year. - SP work is dependent upon which cases we use and whether any of the patient profiles in those cases match up with your profile. - We will invite you to participate in a specific session(s). You are welcome to say Yes or No with no penalty. *Communication Skills Simulations* *You will not be needed all Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons; you will be invited to specific Tuesday and/or Wednesday afternoons. * Special Projects vary in needs and dates. *Y*ou must memorize the character profile of a particular patient. We have a 2-hour training session that accompanies *each* of the Communication Skills cases, most often on the Monday or Thursday of the week before the simulation event. You will be paid for this training. *Physical Diagnosis Simulations* These sessions occur on various Tuesday afternoons from 12:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. For this type of session, you must wear a hospital gown. Tap Dance Killer's Comic Book Cabaret

You may have heard that the Phantasy Complex (Phantasy Nightclub, Symposium, Phantasy Theatre, Chamber) is being sold, and will no longer be a live venue. I spoke to the owner about wanting to take part in one of the last weekends, and she offered me a whole friggin’ night! We’ve come up with TAP DANCE KILLER’S COMIC BOOK CABARET to be held Sept 1st at the Symposium in Lakewood. The night will include rock and Broadway performances along with poetry and comic book readings! We have some great performers lined up, but there’s room for more, so if this sounds up your alley please let me know. Over 18 years of age only please, and there is no pay as we’re only charging $5 at the door to cover expenses. The event will be filmed, and a killer montage video will be put together at completion. It can be as simple as a cosplay memorized karaoke track, or with accompanying musicians — anything goes, but at least a loose pop culture theme is what we’re looking for. Madison Middle School in Lake County is in need of a choreographer to help stage our junior production of "42nd Street." LAKE ERIE COLLEGE Department of Theatre announces auditions for our fall show MURDER BY POE by Jeffrey Hatcher This thriller is adapted from 7 different Poe stories, which Hatcher has blended together into one terrifying mystery. Auditions will be Aug 22 and 23 from 4-6 with callbacks Aug 24 at 6. Or, by appointment. Contact Dr. Jaffe at <jjaffe(a)lec.edu>. Auditions will be a combination of cold readings and improvisation. Some but not all characters have French accents. This play involves a large cast of characters and will include some double and triple casting as needed. Everyone is welcome to audition.
