The Dark Room is an ongoing event held on the second Tuesday of each month. The Dark Room affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. It offers a venue to workshop plays, novels, poems, or any other written work in a supportive, yet critical environment. *Tuesday, August 14th* *The Church at CPT* (Just east of the Gordon Square Theatre Box Office) Cleveland Public Theatre 6415 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102 *FREE Great Lakes Beer!* *7:00pm: *Sign-up begins for writers and actors (space is limited). Writers can bring up to 10 pages of work to be read; actors will be cast on the spot! *Actors* *must arrive by 7:15pm* to be considered. *7:30pm: *Open Mic Session readings begin Suggested donation of $5 is welcomed at the door, but not required. *LAKEWOOD YOUNG FILMMAKERS ACADEMY* is excited to announce TWO filmmaking programs *THIS FALL!* *8 WEEK FILM SCHOOL* Lakewood Young Filmmakers Academy is a comprehensive film studies program specifically designed for kids and teens ages 10-17. Movies are an important part of our lives and more and more kids are becoming interested in how they are made. LYFA's 8 Week Program is designed to give your child a crash course in how to create professional movies from start to finish. >From screenwriting to lighting and sound, to camera work to editing, LYFA's award winning instructors will guide your child through the creative process and onto a journey of artistic expression using the cinematic arts. Members are assigned a movie to watch at home each week prior to the discussion. There will be one field trip scheduled to the Cinematheque at the Cleveland Institute of Art to watch a classic film and tour the projection booth. **Members of Female Filmmaker Fridays also get membership in this group and are welcome to stay. * *Female Filmmaker Fridays* is an 8 week film club where female students grades 8-12 interested in film and filmmaking are invited to the Lakewood Young Filmmakers Academy to meet other women who work in the industry and learn about a variety of topics pertaining to filmmaking. There will be presentations, speaker forums and opportunities for mentoring. A madcap romp through the holiday season. *Roles Available:* The show was written by and for three men, but this production is open to women, as well. Ages: 20’s-50’s. What’s important in this zany, high energy romp is trust and chemistry between the actors. Looking for fearless actors who can play multiple roles and give an improvised feel to a scripted show. Playwrights Local (http://playwrightslocal.org/) Seeks multiple cast members For a staged reading on Thursday, October 18 *The Adventures of* *Fleische **Michecha of Rumilshtenikisigov* A new play by Matthew Greenfield Directed by Erik Andrews Synopsis The title character is a quiet Jewish boy-turned-man coping with a mysterious “pain” and very interesting times in the early 20th century: forced to leave his titular home town and wander around the world in service of the Tzar in two bloody wars, Fleische gets caught up in the turmoil of the Russian Revolution and eventually decides to immigrate to America, coming to terms with the “home-less” nature of the Diaspora and discovering a resilient home within himself in the face of the massive historical pressures of pogroms, wars, revolutions, and assimilation. Cast (All perform multiple roles in epic-style play) *ACTOR A: *Fleische *ACTOR D: *Various roles including Census-Taker, Naval Officer, Japanese Officer, and American Offering Job * ACTOR E: *Various roles including Soldier, Russian Sailor, and Japanese Soldier, and stage directions There will be 1-2 rehearsals in North Collinwood. Singers will be backed with a full band, set in one of the city's most forward thinking music venues. **5 PAID vocalist roles available, to be determined based on auditions. All other selected performers will perform on a volunteer basis.
