Play It Forward: Violin Instructors Needed

Call for Musicians Center for Arts-Inspired Learning is currently seeking two violin instructors for the Spring 2020 season. Candidates must have prior background in working with youth and strong professional or college level violin experience. This program is an opportunity to connect underserved youth in Cleveland to classical instrument instruction. Participants in grades 3-8th will have the opportunity to learn how to play the violin for the first time or enhance previous skills. All participants will be given a violin for free for the duration of this program and have the opportunity to keep these for future use. Professional Teaching Artist Position: Teaching Artist will develop the main lesson plan for the program and instruct students once a week. This position will work in collaboration with the teaching assistance to ensure program consistency and quality for participant progress. Class Schedule: Wednesdays 5-6:30pm. Teaching Artist is expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to the program for set up. Teaching Assistant: The teaching assistant will lead weekly practices sessions to reinforce concepts taught by the professional teaching artists. The teaching assistant should be able to engage and lead a group of participants. Input for lessons and practice is encouraged. Class Schedule: Saturdays 4pm-5:30pm. Teaching Artist is expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to the program for set up. Program Details: When: January 13th 2020 – April 4th 2020. ‘Constellations’ at con-con lacks the requisite stardust Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal “Constellations” is a one-act boy-meets-girl play by British dramatist Nick Payne that debuted in London in 2012 and ran on Broadway in 2015. But here, the boy meets the girl again and again and again in 65 scenes across 68 minutes. On a bare platform in the middle of convergence-continuum’s long and narrow performance space, we witness a first encounter between Marianne (Laurel Hoffman), a Cambridge University astrophysicist, and Roland (Max Elinsky), a beekeeper. There she shares her research on the scientific theory that the universe, as we understand it, is actually a quantum multiverse, where every choice – every decision we’ve ever and never made – exists in an unimaginably vast ensemble of parallel universes. And so we observe the evolution of their relationship – the awkward mutual insecurity that defines a first encounter over drinks, the growing comfort and sense of familiarity, a later infidelity, and the prospect of mortality after the young Marianne is diagnosed with a brain tumor – through this perspective of a universe with infinite possibilities. Every scene is played and replayed in revised form, leading to unlimited outcomes and immeasurable destinies. Unfortunately, this con-con production under Geoffrey Hoffman’s direction is not without a few impediments that impact its realization of the playwright’s good intentions. 10 Most Memorable Moments in 2019 Cleveland Theater Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal When we reflect back on a live theater production, it is often a specific moment that we recall – an instant when a playwright’s idea, a director or designer’s vision, and/or an actor’s performance surpasses an audience’s expectations and something special happens. Such moments seem frozen in time and suspended in space. It is these isolated, elusive and brilliant moments that keep theatergoers coming back for more and win over the next generation of patrons. Theatrical missteps and creative miscarriages are similarly memorable and, for the audience if not the performers or production staff, they can be just as entertaining. Awe can be found in work both awesome and awful.
