Enthusiastic. Open. Charming. Naïve. All-or-nothing. Absorbent. - Mantis Shrimp: late 30's - 50's, any ethnicity, male. A corporate, self-help, motivational speaker. Wild. Intentionally weird. A corporate training company is vying for the contract for anti-bias training with Cleveland's Police Department. When the white facilitator tosses the approved curriculum out the window, the session spirals. Can a mantis shrimp and a crocodile teach us about building trust and the strength of vulnerability? Commissioned by CPT with funding from the National New Play Network (NNPN). World Premiere. About The Process... This rehearsal process will be conventional in nature and based in script analysis, character analysis, and emotional arch. Actors will be asked to make strong proposals, be generous, and meet deadlines given. Rehearsals will begin on or around January 13, 2020. Rehearsals are 5-6 times a week, with evening weekday rehearsals and some daytime weekend rehearsals. Performances begin with previews February 22 and 27, with additional rehearsals between previews. The production opens on February 28. BREAKOUT SESSION runs February 22 - March 14, Thu/Fri/Sat/Mon at 7:00pm in the James Levin Theatre Important Information about The Play... BREAKOUT SESSION is a play about bias and racism. This play contains blunt conversations about racism and its repercussions. Auditions... Sunday, December 15, 4:00pm - 8:00pm Callbacks, if needed, will be on Tuesday, December 17 at 7:00pm. Auditions are by appointment only and will be scheduled in 10 minute increments. Prepared auditions will be individual, but you may be asked to stay and read with a fellow actor. Actors should plan to stay at the audition for up to 75 minutes, though you may be released sooner. The director, Beth Wood, and possibly the assistant director, Sheffia Randall Dooley, will be watching the auditions. What to prepare... * Prepare one monologue from BREAKOUT SESSION provided by CPT. CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM HOLDING AUDITIONS THIS SUN, DEC 15 _INSURRECTION: HOLDING HISTORY_ BY ROBERT O’HARA, DIRECTED BY INDIA NICOLE BURTON _ _ _INSURRECTION: HOLDING HISTORY _IS A DARK COMEDY THAT IS PROVOCATIVE, WITTY AND OUTRAGEOUS BY THE AUTHOR OF _BOOTYCANDY, BARBEQUE _AND _ANTEBELLUM._ ____ _Insurrection _has been described as _The Wizard of Oz_ meets _Roots_. As Ron struggles to finish his dissertation on Nat Turner’s rebellion,TJ (Ron’s 189-year-old great-great grandfather) takes Ron on a journey back in time to 1831, the year Nat Turner led his infamous rebellion in South Hampton County, Virginia. Mutha Wit accompanies them on this mystical journey as she translates for TJ, who can neither speak or move anything but his left eye and the middle toe of his right foot. When they arrive in the deep, deep, dark South, the characters take on one of the most appalling times in history. They see outrageous incidents unfold and come to realizations that may or may not satisfy them on why they travelled back in time in the first place. _Insurrection _is a work unafraid to utterly confound most traditional narrative assumptions, and in a surreal version of history also manages to address contemporary police violence against African-Americans, to explore who has the right to tell whose story, to look critically at attitudes toward sexuality, gender and intolerance, and to explore how different generations adhere to different rules. Available roles. Note that some actors play multiple characters. (The roles of Ron and Mutha Wit have already been cast.) Auditions will be held at convergence-continuum’s Liminis Theater, 2438 Scranton Rd, Cleveland 44113, SUN, DEC 15, 3-7 PM. Actors should prepare two contemporary contrasting monologues and come prepared to cold read. The production will open Fri, July 10 and run Thurs-Sat through Aug 1 (11 performances). Rehearsals are expected to start mid-to-late May. Actors in the production will receive a stipend.

Hello, everyone, We had a great first awards ceremony yesterday, filled with mistakes and surprises and tons of fun! We honored 114 children from 10 plays with nominations, and had 46 winners. We are expanding our reach to include a lot more Akron and Cleveland theatres in the new year, so far, we are seeing 26 plays and musicals through May, and we would like to include our neighbors all the way out to Sandusky, Huron, Tiffen, Mansfield, Canton and Youngstown, and areas in between, and would like to invite youth theatres and camps to apply to be a part of us, as well as adjudicators from those areas. We are also seeking a 501(c)(3) angel who will put us under your umbrella, or someone who will help us become a 50 (c)(3) status, sponsors, advertisers, and donors to help our program flourish.
