Lakewood's Beck Center will hold Open Call Auditions for David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize winning *GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS* On *Monday July 15th* and *Tuesday July 16th* beginning at 5PM Director William Roudebush (Beck Center's "*Equus*" and "*One* *Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest*") is seeking six men to join Broadway, Television and Film star Austin Pendleton www.imdb.com/name/nm0671721/ and http://www.ibdb.com/broadway-cast-staff/austin-pendleton-55862 for this sensational drama. Pendleton plays Shelly "The Machine" Levene. The rest of the cast is as follows: - Richard "Ricky" Roma <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Roma>: The most successful salesman <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salesman> in the office. Although Roma seems to think of himself as a latter-day cowboy <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy> and regards his ability to make a sale as a sign of his virility <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virility>, he admits only to himself that it is all luck. His frustration begins to boil up when the office is robbed, and he worries about being convicted based upon Detective Baylen's interrogation. Ironically, he and Roma end up the remaining two salesmen for the firm after Shelley is found out, and gives up Moss as his co-conspirator. - Dave Moss: A big-mouthed salesman with big dreams and schemes. Moss resents Williamson and agency owners Mitch and Murray for putting such pressure on him and plans to strike back at them by stealing all their best sales leads and selling them to a competitor. Moss sees Aaronow as a potential accomplice, but eventually convinces Levene to work with him in selling the leads to Jerry Graff, a local competitor. During his final rant against Roma, his indignation reveals that his jealousy extends towards even his fellow salesmen, and he decides to go to Wisconsin to avoid further questioning. - Baylen: A police detective <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_detective>. Join saxophonist Tom Lempner, trombonist Jimmy Redmond, tuba player Drew Kreiger and percussionist Darren Allen as they bring you these merry melodies and add a “new” (NEO) twist to some of these Dixieland treats. Practice being a theater critic with this one-time opportunity in coordination with the BorderLight International Theater and Fringe Festival. Learn the ins and outs of theater criticism in the first two sessions. In the third week all participants will be given press passes to attend performances at the BorderLight International Theater and Fringe Festival in downtown Cleveland. And selected reviews will be published on the BorderLight website! The instructor is Christine Howey, who has been named Best Critic in Ohio by both the Press Club of Cleveland and the Society of Professional Journalists. Four two-hour sessions plus a Press Pass to BorderLight: $80 ($60 for members of Literary Cleveland) Dates: July 11, 18, 25 and August 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at University Circle United Methodist Church. WHAT - Join us for a fun evening of swing music and swing dancing WHEN - 8 - 9 pm All-levels, beginner-friendly Jitterbug dance lesson with multi-year swing dance champion, Valerie Salstrom. You do not need a partner to attend the lesson or dance. We rotate partners. If you bring a partner and choose not to rotate that is okay too. 9 pm - 12 am Live music provided by one of the first swing bands in the region, Hepcat Revival. WHERE - The Lakewood Masonic Temple is located at 15300 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio. There is a large parking lot behind the building. Enter through the front doors. BAND - Hepcat Revival Hepcat Revival is a 7-piece swinging, jump blues band of roustabouts and ne'er-do wells. Playing toe-tapping, finger-poppin' music reminiscent of a time when cars were as big as Rhode Island, America traveled by rail, and you didn't know what politicians did behind closed doors. Decked out in the full regalia of the latest fashions, Hepcat Revival will dazzle you with music the likes of Louis Prima, Big Joe Turner, Cab Calloway, and Louis Jordan, as well as a few beauties of their own composition. https://www.facebook.com/HepcatRevival/ ATTIRE - Wear what makes you feel good and allows you to move and pivot easily. If using an elevator would make your life easier, please park in the back and enter through the single door at the corner of the building. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun. Dancing Under The Stars - It's an outdoor party for music lovers and dancers at the U.S. Bank Plaza in downtown Cleveland at Playhouse Square every Tuesday this Summer! Look for us near the giant chandelier. FREE! All ages! Family friendly! Everyone is welcome to attend! Join us for the hottest concert and dance series in Cleveland! Brought to you by Playhouse Square, Viva Dance, and Get Hep Swing. The evenings start with a swing dance lesson from 6-6:30. Live music begins at 6:30 and continues until 9. We have 13 weeks of outdoor concerts and dancing in downtown Cleveland starting Tuesday, June 4th and continuing until August 27th. From June 4th until July 9th the concerts and dancing highlight jazz, swing, jump blues and any music that makes you want to Jitterbug/East Coast Swing, Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, West Coast Swing, and Shag. Our final installment of the swing themed events - Tuesday, July 9th - Moustache Yourself - Akron, Ohio Moustache Yourself plays in a jazz/swing style that was made popular in France in the 1930s. Hot club jazz, or by the French name, "jazz manouche” is a style of jazz music made famous by guitarist Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt was heavily influence by ragtime and Dixieland music and found special inspiration from Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. Hot club swing standards include jazz hits of the '20s and '30s, original compositions by Django Reinhardt, such as "Nuages" and "Minor Swing"; compositions by other notable musicians of this style; and jazzed-up versions of manouche songs, such as "Dark Eyes." Much of the repertoire is in minor keys, lending a distinctively dark sound to the tunes which contrasts with the lively performance style. It's infectious rhythm and exotic but familiar melodies will capture your soul and transport you to a different time and place. Band members Jeremy Jones (guitar), Brent Hamker (guitar), Brad Wagner (clarinet and sax), and Matthew DeRubertis (acoustic bass) are on a mission to incorporate the entire history of jazz manouche into an eclectic mix of songs ranging from the style’s beginnings to present day, which includes originals written by members. July 16th until August 27th feature Latin music and dancing presented by Viva Dance. There are paid parking lots nearby as well as some street parking.
