*Geauga Lyric Theater Guild cancels current production, The Great Gatsby.* Due to Ohio Governor Dewine's decision today concerning taking precautions to help contain the COVID 19 Virus, we regret to announce that *all the performances of our current production, The Great Gatsby, have been cancelled*. While we will refund all ticket sales, it is our hope that ticket buyers will consider donating the cost of the tickets back to the theater or be willing to accept a voucher for a future production. Additionally, GLTG's spring classes will be suspended until the week starting April 6, 2020 to coincide with the three-week break for Ohio Schools also announced by the Governor today. Start dates and tuition charges will be adjusted accordingly. Revised information and registration will be available on the GLTG website asap. Hi everyone! The meeting scheduled March 19th at Banter Restaurant on Detroit Ave has been cancelled. Due to the current situation with COVID-19 and based on government and health organization recommendations we have decided to cancel all of our ISA Third Thursdays events for the month of March. The health and safety of our members and our communities as a whole is our top priority, and we feel it is important to be safe and responsible at this time. There will be cold readings from the script. ROLES AVAILABLE: OPAL, A recluse living in a tumbledown mansion at the edge of the municipal dump. She is an optimist full of unfailing kindness and an abiding faith in the goodness of human nature. (Female, 45+) BRADFORD WINTER, On the lam from the authorities, the real brains behind the operation, with his high-end vocabulary, college professor ensemble, and smart-ass sense of humor. He is a bit threadbare but lean and handsome. (Male, 30s) OFFICER JOE JANKIE, A handsome young policeman. (Male, 19 - 40) GLORIA GULOCK, On the lam from the authorities, she has designer-like wardrobe, and Hollywood dreams makes her the perfect naive front woman. She has a brashness that compensates for her insecurity. She seems hardened. (Female, 19) SOLOMON BOZO, On the lam from the authorities, the big boss man in his fancy fur and authoritative air who talks a big, mob-boss-like game, but there’s something hiding beneath the boisterousness. He is shabby, fat, bald and bug-eyed. He is in an extreme state of agitation. (Male, 30 - 47) DOCTOR, Middle-aged. Rather cantankerous. (Male, 50+) PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL ROLES ARE OPEN TO ALL AGES AND GENDERS. STORY: Opal Kronkie, a middle-aged recluse, lives in a tumbledown mansion at the edge of the municipal dump. The general disarray of her establishment is aggravated by the fact that Opal collects things—anything that can be toted home in her little red wagon. Opal is also an optimist, for no matter how mean her lot—or her “friends” —Opal responds with unfailing kindness and an abiding faith in the goodness of human nature. Into her rather strange world comes Gloria, Bradford and Solomon, three purveyors of bogus perfume on the lam from the authorities. Opal’s menage is the perfect hideout—and Opal, herself, might be the remedy for their shattered finances. They decide that what she needs is plenty of insurance, a rapid demise, and three beneficiaries named Gloria, Bradford and Solomon. Attempted murder wouldn’t seem to be funny, but in Mr. Patrick’s magic hands it is uproarious. The unsavory trio concoct an elaborate scheme to drop the ceiling on Opal’s unsuspecting head—but she is in the cellar at the time; they try to drug her and set the house on fire—but Opal’s state trooper friend arrives at the wrong (or right) moment; a plan for a “hit and run” accident backfires. Through it all, Opal radiates kindness, affection and, strangely enough, gratitude. But the real clincher comes at the end. It seems that there was plenty of money around all the time; bags, barrels, and mooseheads full of it, in fact, and any friend of Opal’s is welcome to as much as he wants. All they had to do was ask.

At this time we are not cancelling any performances,but we wanted you to know about the extra precautions we are taking: - Additional cleaning of the theater space before and after performances with specific attention to door handles and audience seats. - All programs will be single-use. We encourage audience members to take their programs home or recycle them in the lobby. - Hand sanitizer will be available at our box office. Over the courseof a parent/teacher conference, a grieving mother and an emotionallyoverwhelmed fifth-grade primary school teacher have a fraught conversationabout the tragic suicide of the mother's son, Gidion. Gidion may have been bullied severely—or hemay have been an abuser. As his story is slowly uncovered, the women try toreconstruct a satisfying explanation for Gidion's act and come to terms withexcruciating feelings of culpability. Gidion’sKnot is a thought-provokingtwo-character play touching upon bullying, teacher/parent responsibility, thelocal principal’s and board’s decisions and policies, the school system’sfailures and the issue of students’ freedom of expression. The face-offescalates inexorably throughout as the two women confront the audience as muchas one another with their characters’ pain, avoidance and degrees of guilt andregret.
