THEATER REVIEW: “Beetlejuice” @ Playhouse Square by Laura Kennelly Now on national tour, *Beetlejuice*, which recently ended its Broadway run, is at Playhouse Square through January 29. It is a perfect pepper-upper for teens tired of school and winter confinement— or post-teens who still enjoy laughing at conventions. Nothing is subtle. *Beetlejuice*, based on the 1988 film, has music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and book by Scott Brown and Anthony King. Alex Timbers directs this strobe-heavy, raucous musical about a spirit from Hell and his ambition to haunt the living. Cleveland Public Theatre and Y-Haven Present Y-Haven Theatre Project 2023's In Our Wake<https://www.cptonline.org/performances/seasons/2022-2023/y-haven-theatre-pr…> January 26, 27, and January 29 (January 28th is the Y-Haven Benefit which is sold directly through Y-Haven) Cleveland Public Theatre's (CPT) and Y-Haven are proud to present the return of Y-Haven Theatre Project, a 24-year partnership between Cleveland Public Theatre and Y-Haven, a branch of the YMCA when CPT collaborates with the clients of Y-Haven to create an original theatre production that shares powerful stories of recovery and personal triumph, capturing an authentic and emotional power as the cast shares their true-to-life experiences. This year's show is called In Our Wake; and marks the first year that all genders are a part of the cast, as the Y-Haven program has traditionally been for men. "No one's life changes unless they want it to and one of the profound elements of this program is that we get to make art with people who have made a clear and active choice to change." ―Cleveland Public Theatre Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan ABOUT THE SHOW The play follows Amari who is trying―trying to show up when she says she will, trying to finish what she starts, trying to do the right thing, for once. *AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT* Academy For Dramatic Arts is presenting *Dancing Through the Decades *on April 21st-23rd , directed by Josh Landis. This production will be nothing like you have ever seen before because YOU ALL are the writers. AFDA wants to test you to your limits. You will be participating in brainstorming sessions to write and produce this musical. AFDA prides itself on being a safe place for students to learn and be creative in the arts. If you are in 4th-12th grade and want to write a play and perform, please come to our open auditions on January 22nd from 4:00-6:00 PM. *Performances* will take place April 21st-23rd; tech week April 16th-20th. *Note: *There is a participation fee of $100, scholarships are available. *Auditions *will be held on Sunday, January 22nd at 4:00 PM and ending at 6:00 PM. A Principal Actor will receive a main part in the musical, and the Company Actors will be a part of the ensemble and will receive more minor roles. Since YOU ALL are writing the play, we do not have any characters decided, but once we have the script written, we will place you as either a Principal Actor or a Company Actor.
