Cleveland Public Theatre Announces Auditions For the US premiere of the English translation Requiem By Hanoch Levin Translated by Leland Frankel and Lee Ishri Directed by Raymond Bobgan Starring Peter Lawson Jones as The Old Man Seeking a female identifying performer who identifies as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color The Old Woman: Wife of The Old Man, resilient, tolerant, stubborn, sick, resolved to her fate. *All other roles in this production have been cast and we are only looking to fill this role at this time. About the play: One of Israel's most beloved plays, Requiem is a contemplation on mortality. An old village couple approach the end of life; a coachman just wants to listen to him mourning his son's death; a young mother refuses to cry over her dying baby; a group of drunkards and prostitutes scheme about how to fulfill their desires. They are all questioning the meaning of life, of suffering, of loneliness and unhappiness, with no answer in sight. A masterful mélange of storytelling and role-playing, one of Levin's most successful plays worldwide. Key dates: first rehearsal: January 15; preview: March 14; opening March 16; closing April 7. ABOUT THE PROCESS... This rehearsal process will be unconventional in nature. It will be based in script analysis, character analysis, and arc of action, while also including significant movement and vocal work. Actors will be asked to make strong proposals, be generous, and meet given deadlines. The play requires surreal and abstract approaches as well as realism. This production will adhere to the CLEan House Standards. Rehearsals are 5-6 times a week, with evening weekday rehearsals and some daytime weekend rehearsals. This is a paid opportunity.

Cleveland native Evan Sanders returning to perform with jazz vocal group Accent

Accent is composed of six singers from five countries, who met through YouTube, forming one vocal supergroup. They will be performing at the Cleveland Museum of Art's Gartner Auditorium on Friday, December 8 at 7:30 pm. The group's bass vocalist Evan Sanders is a Cleveland area native, graduate of Brush High School (Class of 1999) and alumnus/former musical director of Beachwood Community Theater/Beachwood Drama Camp. In the increasingly popular world of a cappella singing groups, Accent has carved out its own niche. Since forming in 2011, the group has released five albums; performed at the London A Cappella Festival; played dates across Europe, North America, and Asia; and was featured in two sold-out Christmas shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Accent’s singular blend and arrangements have been acclaimed by a cappella devotees and fellow musicians alike, including members of TAKE 6, The Manhattan Transfer, New York Voices and The Hi-Lo’s. The ensemble’s lush sound is embellished by its deep and innate musicality. As Alan Paul of The Manhattan Transfer said, “You guys carry on the vocal group legacy.” This evening’s performance will feature selections from the Accent discography, including holiday favorites from the ensemble’s latest release, Christmas All the Way. Kerstin Vaughn has her MFA in theatre performance and pedagogy. Her theatrical practice and research have centered on inclusivity, accessibility, and consent. She has taken numerous workshops with Theatrical Intimacy Education as well as Intimacy Directors and Coordinators and has worked on several productions as the intimacy choreographer. This workshop focuses on some super important skills like understanding consent for the stage, communicating physical and emotional boundaries, and considering different bodies and experiences in your performances. Plus, you'll learn how to manage those moments of heightened emotions and set intimate choreography. It's gonna be a blast!
