Accessible LGBTQ+ Theatre: Seahorse at Maelstrom Collaborative Arts, April 7 and 8 only

Seahorse, a new play written by JC Pankratz and directed by Nicolas Shannon Savard, will premiere at Maelstrom Collaborative Arts on April 7 and 8. The script, which was awarded the 2021 FMM Fellowship for Works in Heightened Language from Synecdoche Works, follows a trans man named Reuben (played by Emmett Podgorski). Reuben is continuing his attempts to conceive a child after the death of his husband. In processing his grief and hope, he turns his insemination endeavors into moments of self-recognition by donning different costumes and personas for each try. Juliet, Zeus, and St. Francis all make appearances. Instead of a funerary parade, this play seeks the purpose of life for the living, for the dead, and for the not-yet-arrived. Surrounding Reuben is an ensemble of actors (Justin Miller, Samantha Cocco, and Minor Stokes) who provide live audio description of the onstage action. Inspired by disability aesthetics, the production approaches accessibility not as simply accommodation but as a rich opportunity for creative exploration: What layers of meaning come out when the audio description becomes a character (or three) in and of itself? How might different voices describing the action add nuance to the story and deepen our exploration of queer-trans embodiment and narrative? The performances are presented in conjunction with the 2023 Cleveland Humanities Festival. Events associated with the production are made possible with the support of the Baker Nord Center for the Humanities, Synecdoche Works, and the Humanities in Leadership Learning Series at Case Western Reserve University. An absurdist Betti/Ionesco play. The Theatre of the Absurd is a post–World War II designation for particular plays of absurdist fiction written by a number of primarily European playwrights. Needed: Two men and one woman; age range, late twenties to mid-thirties; non-union, paid (comparable stipend to equity pay. Interview/Auditions are being scheduled (now thru the end of April). Three minute audition piece(s); prose and ability with stylized language will be part of the upcoming work, but not necessary for audition. Casting Extras for World War 2 Feature Film

Currently receiving submissions for extras to play Italian refugees, partisans, townsfolk, etc. for large World War 2 feature film. Though some of the filming may be done in Italy, and other states of the US, much of it will be filmed in northeast Ohio. We have been filming since August of 2022 with high success, and will have a trailer out soon. This film is a large venture never before attempted in Ohio regarding story-line and story location, which is in southern Italy in the late summer and fall of 1943. Though these roles are unpaid, food and water will be provided. I invite all ages, and even whole families to submit for these roles, even if you have no experience as an actor. You do not have to be or look Italian, but must look somewhat European. For all that would like to go back in time, or be part of a very high quality Hollywood level feature film, this is a great opportunity. There is no budget for this film, so I am asking that you provide your own wool or cotton early 1940s looking attire. This usually can be obtained at thrift stores. Please provide headshot and resumes, if you have them, or pictures of any kind with contact information. There is a special film shoot in northeast Ohio on Saturday, April 15. Please indicate if you are available on that date. Please keep in mind, if you are not selected for that date, you may be selected on another shoot date as I am compiling a data base of talent.
