Kerstin Vaughn has her MFA in theatre performance and pedagogy. Her theatrical practice and research have centered on inclusivity, accessibility, and consent. She has taken numerous workshops with Theatrical Intimacy Education as well as Intimacy Directors and Coordinators and has worked on several productions as the intimacy choreographer. This workshop focuses on some super important skills like understanding consent for the stage, communicating physical and emotional boundaries, and considering different bodies and experiences in your performances. Plus, you'll learn how to manage those moments of heightened emotions and set intimate choreography. It's gonna be a blast! Lakewood Ohio’s Beck Center for the Arts will hold auditions for “*Beautiful: The* *Carole King Musical*” on February 19th and 20th. Auditions slots will occur between 5PM and 8PM each day and are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Times fill up quickly so get your appointment early. Appointments can be obtained by calling the Beck Center Box Office during regular business hours at 216-521-2540. For Open Call auditions please prepare a single brief (90 seconds or less) vocal selection in either Pop or Broadway style. Bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided. Self accompanying on Piano or Guitar is also fine. Video Auditions WILL be accepted thru February 20th. Please note that out of town actors need to be aware that Beck Center does NOT regularly have housing to provide except in rare instances. Please take that into account when submitting. Rehearsals are expected to begin in very late May or early June. *About “Beautiful”* (Courtesy of Stageagent.com) *Beautiful* tells the true story of Carole King’s meteoric rise to fame as one of the twentieth century’s foremost singer-songwriters. We are introduced to Carole when she is 16 and pitching her first song (“It Might As Well Rain Until September”) to New York music producer Don Kirshner. Soon after, she meets her future husband and creative collaborator, Gerry Goffin. In a musical whirlwind, the couple are married, King gives birth to their first child and the duo make a name for themselves in the music business, knocking out hit after hit. However, while their careers are on the rise, Carole’s personal life falls apart when Gerry announces that he wants an affair. As Carole tries to negotiate marriage, adultery and personal happiness, she is supported by friends and playful rivals, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. Although they all compete for number one hits on the pop chart, Carole relies on their support to change her life and find her own voice. Hello, wonderful playwrights and theatre makers! Announcing the opening of the submission process for the 2024 Tweener Series. This year we have we have a few changes to the Tweener Series. All productions will receive a $1,000 budget to do with whatever the theatre makers wish- whether it be pay for rights, pay for actors, pay for props and costumes- you name it. In addition to that, we are opening up the process with a simple submission form which will then be reviewed by our Literary Manager, Klae Bainter. This adjusted process is a direct result of our strategic planning process undertaken in February of 2023. To submit a proposal for the Tweener Series, please prepare a one-page description of the project, (the who, the what, and the how). SPRING CLASS - VOICE ACTING FUNDAMENTALS!

Hi, I'm Dan Popp. I began doing freelance voice acting in 1987. A couple of years later I started my audio production company, Colors Audio. In those decades I've voiced and produced many projects for local, national and international companies. And I've struggled, too. This is not an easy business - and it's only getting harder, no matter what the internet hucksters tell you. A couple of days ago I got an email pitching a text-to-speech program that would replace all of those high-priced voice actors with an app! And it wasn't the first such email I've received. Being an audio guy as well as a voice guy has allowed me to see things from "both sides of the glass." In sessions with other voice actors and especially when producing their demos I was able to throw some new ideas at them, and help them ask the right questions to get to a read they "didn't know they had in them." So in 2014 I hung out my shingle as a voice acting coach. If you take my Spring Voice Acting Fundamentals class you'll come away with some techniques that are founded on time-tested acting principles; some ways to see into the scriptwriter's intention; a few tricks; and most of all, freedom from the pressure that other beginners are putting on their voices to do the work. Because the first thing you'll learn is that voice acting is not about your voice. This class will consist of six, 2-hour sessions on Saturday afternoons from 2 - 4pm beginning March 2nd and ending April 13th (we'll take Easter Weekend off). We'll meet at Colors Audio in Akron. Cost is $750 for the class, but I'm offering a discount of $50 if you register before February 21st. After the class I hope you'll do a demo. The cost for that is also $750, and there will be a really nice discount for the demo after you've taken the training with me. And again there will be a time limit on the discount. *CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE IS HIRING PART-TIME SUBSTITUTE TEACHING ARTISTS* CPT is seeking *part-time Substitute Teaching Artists* to assist in implementing CPT Education programming. Theatre experience is a plus. We are looking to build a strong core of artists who are dedicated to creating work to further racial and economic justice. *------------------------------* *CMHA CLEVELAND ACT NOW* CMHA Cleveland Act Now (CAN) takes place in partnership with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) at community centers for children and families who live in public housing. Under the guidance of CPT Teaching Artists, young artists learn how to create and perform their own plays, dance, poetry, music, and visual art. These multidisciplinary performing arts activities improve academic skills, instill empathy and responsibility, build character, and enhance creative thinking. The students regularly perform at CMHA community centers as well as arts festivals throughout Cleveland. CMHA CAN is offered in four CMHA communities: Lakeview Terrace, Woodhill Homes, Outhwaite Homes, and Riverside Park. *CLEVELAND ACT NOW ACADEMY (CAN ACADEMY)* Cleveland Act Now (CAN) Academy is a free performing arts program for younger teens and youth from Cleveland and surrounding neighborhoods, held on-site at Cleveland Public Theatre. The Juniors program serves youth ages 7-10, and the Seniors program serves youth ages 11-14.
