The Wizard of Oz<https://www.beckcenter.org/youth-shows/wizard>, By L. Frank Baum, Music and Lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg is adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Direction by Carolyn Demanelis, and Music Direction by Heidi Herczeg round out this impressive creative team. The 75th Diamond Youth Theater Season will conclude as we follow Dorothy down the Yellow Brick Road. This charming musical features students ages 6-19, with Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas who dreams of what lies beyond the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over that rainbow to the land of Oz where she and her pup Toto meet the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion. Together they learn about friendship, bravery, and ultimately, that There's No Place Like Home Carolyn Demanelis, director of this production of The Wizard of Oz states, "It is a joy to work with a cast of this size, filled with young artists, exploring a story that feels part of American mythology. It is one of our most famous 'hero's journeys' that centers the action around a young girl, Dorothy, and reminds each of us of the desire to return to our home. I think each of the characters in this story has had a disruption or loss to how they see themselves, and are trying to reclaim their identity and part of themself that feels missing. It is when the characters lean on one another and journey together into the unknown, that they are able to awaken the part of themselves that felt lost." Previous youth theater productions of The Wizard of Oz took place in the seasons of 1977-1978, 1985-1986, 1997-1998, 2007-2008, and 2013-2014, making this the perfect production to wrap up the historic 75th anniversary of Beck Center's Youth Theater. Beck Center for the Arts' Youth Theater alumni include Michael Chernus (Orange Is the New Black; Manhattan; Severance); Dee Hoty (three-time Tony Nominee); Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold; Transformers: The Last Night); Rory O'Malley (Hamilton; Tony Nominee, Book of Mormon); and Daniel Reichard (Drama Desk Nominee, Jersey Boys). *Ensemble Theatre will be offering the 8th year of our FREE Summer Performing Arts Camp!* This year’s camp will run from *June 17th to June 28th.* Campers will present a final performance Saturday June 29th! *Ensemble Theatre’s Summer Performing Arts Camp* is a* FREE TWO WEEK CAMP* offered to students in the 5th-8th grade (or ages 10-13) who attend Cuyahoga County Schools (or are homeschooled and residents of Cuyahoga County)! We will accept up to 20 students this summer! *This Performing Arts camp will have 4 focus areas:* *Theatre, Film*, *(Playwriting/Screenwriting)*, and this year we continue to add a special drop in day of *Voice Overs!!* We will also have drop ins from a local playwriting and acting professional from right here in THE LAND!! We are so excited to offer this amazing curriculum. Students work on writing and reading skills, creation of basic props and set pieces, aspects of film that include green screens, practicals, slating and filming short teasers/commercials. They will work as small group ensembles learning the values of teamwork. *Red Barn Youth Theater Auditions * for 2 one-acts: *Snow White Lite* by Jacob Dorn Directed by Richie Lynch and *The Great American Talent Show* by Joseph Robinette Directed by Greg Dziama *Audition Dates: *Monday, April 18 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm and Wednesday April 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. *Show Dates: *July 22 - July 24, 2022 on Friday and Saturday at 7pm, Sunday at 2pm. *The Plays: * 8-12 year olds will present *Snow White Lite*, an easy, breezy adaptation of the classic fairy tale. The FIVE dwarves don't need help with cooking or cleaning, so they hand Snow White a plunger and put her to work. When the wicked Queen, disguised in Groucho glasses, tries to finish her off, a quick response from Prince Heimlich saves her, and the day! Cast size is 8-10 characters. Rehearsals for *Snow White Lite* will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 pm starting on Monday, May 2, 2022. 13-17 year olds will present *The Great American Talent Show*. It is the final night of the yearlong TV talent show to end all talent shows! The finalists anxiously await their final shot at fame and fortune, while the three self-important judges cajole or praise the contestants in hilarious ways. Don't feel that your singing or dancing skills are great? Don't worry, neither are theirs! And wait until you hear who finally wins! Cast size is 8-10 characters. Rehearsals for *The Great American Talent **Show* will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 pm starting on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Open auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. *For the safety of all involved, those wishing to audition must be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. * No appointment is necessary. Auditions will be held at Clague Playhouse. Clague Playhouse is located at 1371 Clague Road, Westlake, Ohio 44145.
