Micro Theater CLE submission deadline is Sunday!

Micro Theater CLE is accepting submissions for its second event in October in Tremont. The submission deadline is September 1. You don't need to have a fully-developed piece, just an idea. Here’s more information: https://www.microtheatercle.com/submissions At Micro Theater events we produce 10-15 short performances that are staged simultaneously in different rooms throughout the same building (or neighborhood). Each show is performed 3-5 times per night, so the audience can see a few short plays in an evening with time in between to chat over beers. The micro theater concept started in Madrid before launching in Miami and Buenos Aires, and on May 24 and 25 we staged the first ever micro theater event in Cleveland. Over 500 people attended 90 performances of 16 new productions over 2 nights in 10 different rooms at the historic Brownhoist building on St. Clair. We had a blast! Traditional plays, experimental plays, dramas, comedies, physical theater, sketch, clown, burlesque, performance art, and immersive performance are all fair game. Performances should be 15-minutes or less and will be staged in small rooms or site specific spaces inside homes, on porches, in parks, or traveling through Tremont. If you're excited about it, we'll try and make it work. We have experienced producers, directors, performers you can collaborate with, or you’re welcome to direct and cast the show on your own. And if you’re a director (or interested in trying out directing) and/or an actor and would be interested in being in someone else’s show, let us know! Performances will be at 7:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, 2:00 PM on Sundays at CVLT's Main Stage, 40 River Street in historic Chagrin Falls. $23 admission, with $3 discount for seniors, students, and military. Although Erma Bombeck started out as a journalist for the Dayton Journal Herald, she transitioned to full-time motherhood and homemaking in the early 1950s. In 1954, she started writing a column for the Dayton Shopping News which later gained national syndication. Bombeck's column, characterized by her keen wit and poignancy, focused on the everyday trials of suburban motherhood and married life. Eventually it reached 900 papers, making it one of the most widely syndicated columns in America, and launching Bombeck into the popular culture as a TV guest and author. Chagrin Falls natives Allison and Margaret Engel grew up reading the column. The identical twin sisters also pursued journalism careers, and in 2010 penned a play based on the work of journalist/humorist Molly Ivins. The play caught the attention of Bombeck's agent, who suggested they make Erma the focus of their next project. Already fans, the sisters were eager to oblige. They not only read and watched everything they could find from Bombeck's career, but also visited with Bombeck's husband and children for their first-hand accounts of their wife and mother, who passed away in 1996. The result was *Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End*, which premiered to critical acclaim in 2015 and was staged at Cleveland Play House in 2023. Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's production stars Paula Kline-Messner (SAG-AFTRA) under the direction of Mark Seven. Ms. Kline-Messner has appeared in numerous productions in NE Ohio and national tours, including a half-dozen tours of *Menopause, The Musical*. She is a former television host and producer of several nationally syndicated programs and a four-time Emmy Award Winner for her work as a television writer, producer and on camera talent. On opening night the theatre will host a $25 VIP reception with wine and hors d’œuvres beginning at 6:00 PM. After the premiere performance, all audience members are invited to stay for a talkback session with the show’s playwrights. Western Reserve Chorale, a 100-voice community choir, is accepting new singers. No audition required, but previous choral experience and an ability to keep up with some challenging repertoire is beneficial. In today's world there is much reason to help bring JOY in any and every way possible. CAP Academy and New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church are proud to announce our partnership to create Arts for the Soul Celebrate the Arts Performance Academy Inc. (CAP Academy) and New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church have joined forces to provide a FREE Christian Arts Education program for students in grades K-12. The program takes place on Saturday mornings from 9am - 12pm and includes breakfast, small groups, and 2-hour arts intensive. Students can choose from theatre, dance, vocal music, and instrumental music. Our classes are taught by highly qualified teachers who love Jesus Christ. Our aim is to create a safe and nurturing environment where students can explore and deepen their faith through learning the arts. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing adventures and dangers along the way. Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is a favorite with young performers. **Students MUST LIST ALL conflicts with regular rehearsals on audition form.
