Hope N Mic Call for Artists!

Calling all creatives and artists! Hope N Mic will take place Saturday September 14th at Edgewater Park from 11:30a-1:30pm. This will be a BIG day, as we will host our annual NAMI Walks in the morning from 9:00am-11:00am at Edgewater and expect over 1,000 people to come out for the walk! Which seemed that the perfect opportunity to reschedule Hope N Mic and keep the party going! "Hope N Mic" is funded in partnership by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and will feature a diverse range of art forms including music, dance, poetry, spoken word, and visual art, to provide a platform for artists and community partners to showcase their gifts and inspire conversations about how we can utilize the arts to break down stigma and create a more inclusive and understanding community for those impacted by mental health. Auditions for The Music Man! September 8th& 9th We are pleased to announce that The Hudson Players are holding auditions for the musical The Music Man: Book, Music and Lyrics by Meredith Willson. Based on a story by Meredith Willson and Franklin Lacey. Produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Auditions are: September 8 & 9 beginning at 7pm. Directed by Claudia Lillibridge, auditions will be held at the Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt St in Hudson. Performances: November 1,2,8,9,10*,15,16,17*,22,23; 2024. (Sunday November 10 & 17 are special 2:00 pm matinees). Audition overview and additional information available below and at www.hudsonplayers.com. Our Sunday auditions will begin at 5pm for any children that wish to try-out for the show. We encourage all enthusiastic performers to audition! Harold Hill, a smooth-talking salesman with a knack for deception, arrives in River City, Iowa, with a scheme to exploit the town's naivete. He convinces them to invest in instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he promises to lead, despite his complete lack of musical knowledge. His plan to pocket the money and disappear is thrown off course when he unexpectedly falls for Marian, the librarian. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist and prepare at least a 16-bar audition song. Auditions may also include a movement exercise and reading from the script. The Hudson Players are an all volunteer award winning, community theatre. All roles in our productions are always open to auditioners, with no restrictions. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script. Auditions usually last at least two hours and while it is best to be there at the beginning, those with schedule restrictions can come later. Those interested in working backstage, on sets, lights, etc., are encouraged to come to auditions as well and fill out a form letting the producer know their areas of interest. Solon Center for the Arts is accepting applications for a part-time Instructor to fill the position of Musical Director for upcoming musical theater productions. Instructors lead and act as a role model to a group of participants in a specific area of the performing/fine arts. Instructors develop, implement and engage participants in classes, lessons, workshops, performances, pop-up events, etc. in their specific field/specialty. Primary tasks and responsibilities for this position include: • Attend auditions and collaborate on casting with the show director and choreographer. • Attend creative team meetings with Director and Choreographer to develop the overall vision of the show. • Plan, prepare and attend rehearsals. Adhere to a teaching schedule set by the director or Theater Coordinator. • Lead vocal warm ups and exercises, as well as teach music to the cast. • Accompany cast on piano during first half of rehearsals, as sound tracks will be used for the second half of rehearsals and for performances (no conducting, no musicians) • Instruct and manage a group of approximately 8 – 25 students. This position is for approximately 2 - 4 hours per week with additional hours for tech week and performances. • Fall/Winter Production Rehearsals o Wednesday Evenings and/or Saturday Mornings • Winter/Spring Production Rehearsals o Tuesday Evenings and/or Thursday Evenings • Additional hours required for tech week and performances of Main Stage Shows • Summer Camp hours for Musical Theater Camp may be included in June & July Qualified applicants must have two years of teaching experience as a Musical Director (Theater) or Choir Director. Bachelor’s degree in Music, Theater or Music Education from an accredited institution preferred. Candidates for this position will work closely with the Theater Department Coordinator and must be able to work with students of all ages and skill levels, with a specific focus on youth grades 4 – 8. Applicants must be professional and display leadership qualities in and out of the classroom and may be the lead instructor during rehearsals. In addition, the applicant should possess excellent problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills. Applicants must be able to work in a team environment. This position is slotted as a P3 on Solon’s part-time wage scale which offers a starting range from $28.00/hour. Compensation will be determined based upon previous education, performance, and teaching experience. Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) closes out its summer Jazz under the Stars concert series with Cleveland-based ensemble Hip to That on August 24, 2024, at 7 pm. This jazz quartet specializes in tunes from the Great American Songbook, jazz standards and pop tunes with a jazzy twist. Vocalist Maria DiDonato will be performing with Chris Parsons on bass, Joseph Rangel on guitar/vocals and Nate Taylor on drums. The band plays all over NE Ohio from Cleveland, to Canton, to Wooster. Hip to That is known for their energy, humor and hip arrangements. You are guaranteed a swingin’ good time. Bring your dancing shoes, lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy this upbeat concert.
