Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theaters in the country, will be holding auditions on January 11 & 12, 2025 for their third production in their 76th season. THE TEMPEST Written by William Shakespeare Direction by Rachel Gold The Tempest, Shakespeare’s final masterpiece, is a captivating tale of magic, love, family, and forgiveness. Exiled from their kingdom, Prospero and Miranda have survived on an enchanted deserted island for 12 years. When fate and a chance to exact revenge transpires, Prospero conjures a storm that shipwrecks their enemies and others on the same island. As Miranda falls in love with one of the shipwreck’s survivors, Prospero endeavors to use magic and manipulation to exact revenge. This piece explores themes of loss, restoration, fault, and forgiveness, and celebrates what it means to be human. Prepare a list of all potential rehearsal conflicts. Stow Players will be holding adult improvisation classes (18 and older and HS graduate) six (6) consecutive Saturdays from 10:30AM to 12:30PM starting February 8 through March 15 at the Heritage Barn located in Silver Springs Park at 5238 Young Road in Stow. Our instructor will be James McGuire, local actor and experienced college professor of theater and speech communication. The class is intended for beginners and as a refresher course for more experienced actors.Cost is $60.00 for the entire six week session. Space is limited. Beck Center Announces Auditions for TWO Shows ("A Chorus Line" and "The Robber Bridegroom")

Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood, OH is pleased to announce auditions for TWO amazing musicals: *A CHORUS LINE* and *THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM*, both celebrating their 50th Anniversaries!!! Performers will have the option of auditioning for one or both of these shows, as they do nor run concurrently. *A CHORUS LINE* will be directed and choreographed by Chris Chase Carter (Beck’s *ONCE ON THIS ISLAND*) with musical direction by David Robison. *A CHORUS LINE* plays July 11th through August 10th. Rehearsals will begin circa late May/early June tbd. A CHORUS LINE features 16 dancers on the line (8 M/8 F) plus Zach (Director/Choreographer) and Larry, Zach’s Asst. The show also features an additional 8 performers who are cut after the opening number. All 8 (plus Zach and Larry) return to dance the finale’ *AND* each of the 8 will actively understudy TWO of the roles on the line. Show Synopsis: Nate the Great, the world’s greatest boy detective awakes, hoping that this day will bring a new case. He gets a call from his good friend Annie alerting him that her new painting of her dog Fang is missing! He rushes over to her house to investigate. There he searches for clues and interviews her brother Harry who loves red paint and monsters. He also observes (and possibly tangoes) with Fang. Having struck out at Annie’s house, Nate deduces that the painting must have been taken by Annie’s cat loving friend Rosamond; as she was the only other person with access to Annie’s masterpiece. Upon arriving at Rosamond’s house, Nate learns that she has a case to solve as well. One of her four cats, Super Hex, is missing! Nate ultimately realizes that Rosamond could not have stolen the painting. For the first time in his career, he is…stumped. And worse yet, Mom is all out of pancakes. To solve this case he is going to need to find some pancakes, learn to think new ways, and rely on the help of his friends. By the end he has opened up his mind to new possibilities, found Annie’s painting, found Rosamond’s cat, and maybe even solved the mystery of why music in a minor key makes us sad.
