*CLEVELAND (April 23, 2026) — **The Last Shop on Walnut*, a feature-length independent drama shot in Northeast Ohio that explores family, grief, gentrification and courage, will enjoy its red carpet world premiere on Thursday, May 14th at the Cedar-Lee Theatre in Cleveland Heights. A portion of the proceeds from the event will support the *Charles & Margaret Jones Endowed Scholarship Fund at College Now*, helping academically qualified and financially eligible students pursue and complete higher education. *The Last Shop on Walnut* follows Marvin Statler *(Peter Lawson Jones)*, who has spent years of self-confinement in the building he owns that houses both his lamp store and the apartment above it in which he lives. As mounting debt, neighborhood decline and gentrification threaten the survival of his shop, a former love interest *(Kym Whitley)* and the arrival of a mysterious young man force Marvin to confront both long‑buried guilt about his relationship with his brother *(Donald Webber, Jr.)* and a terrifyingly uncertain future. *Last Shop* stars Jones, a former Cuyahoga County Commissioner and state representative, whose career spans film (*A Man Called Otto*, *White Boy Rick*), television (*Chicago Fire*) and stage. Seeking 24-30 students, ages 10-18 to participate in 3 national musical theatre festivals in winter 2026. CARYL CRANE YOUTH THEATRE 2026-2027 COMPETITION TEAM COMPETITION TEAM INFO BREAKDOWN Composed of 24-50 students ages 10 and up who love theatre and want to share their passion and talent with other students from around the world! The team will participate in 1-3 musical theatre festivals between January and March 2027. THIS YEAR WE ARE CASTING TEAMS BASED ON THE SHOWS WE ARE TAKING. For example: The 2027 MTCA team will consist only of those actors needed to fulfill roles in the Ensemble Production, BLOOD BROTHERS. THIS YEAR ALL INDIVIDUAL/SPECIALTY CATEGORIES (SOLOS, MONOLOGUES, ETC.) WILL BE AUDITION ONLY. The Musical Theatre Competitions of America in Anaheim, CA February 4-7, 2027 Participation: 15 TOTAL STUDENTS (8 Female, 7 male) Production: BLOOD BROTHERS Attendance By Invitation Only (staff only, no extra chaperones, family attendees) Cost: pre-fundraising cost per person - $1,900 Included: rehearsal materials, masterclasses and summer training sessions, round-trip flight, hotel accommodations for 3 nights, Disney Park and/or Knotts Berry Farm tickets, all festival activities. This fee includes 1 solo or duet category participation. Additional Fee will apply to those chosen to compete in any extra competition categories. National Performing Arts Festival February 17 - 21, 2027 Participation: 36 TOTAL STUDENTS Production: PETER PAN Ages 10+, chaperones needed and family invited to attend Cost: pre-fundraising cost per person - $2,195 Included: rehearsal materials, masterclasses and summer training sessions, round-trip flight, hotel accommodations for 4 nights, Universal Park Tickets (including Epic Universe), breakfasts and some dinners, all festival activities. Additional Fee will apply to those chosen to compete in any extra competition categories (solos, duets, monologues). The National Youth Theater Experience in Louisville, KY March 5-7, 2027 Participation: 2 Teams with up to 20 students each. Production: BLOOD BROTHERS (SR.), FORBIDDEN COMPETITION (JR.) Ages 10+ (2 teams), chaperones needed and family invited to attend Cost: pre-fundraising cost per person - approximately $900/person Included: rehearsal materials, masterclasses and summer training sessions, round-trip bus transportation, hotel accommodations for 3 nights, all festival activities. Additional fee will apply to those chosen to compete in the solo/duet competition. Team Members Participation on the 2025-2026 Competition Team involves attending at least 1 of the above festivals. Team members may attend multiple festivals but must be available to fully commit to each festival rehearsal process. All team members must participate in ALL fundraising efforts regardless of the number of festivals they attend. The membership fee to join the 2026-2027 competition team is $115 per student and includes your team t-shirts and reserved class space at all masterclasses and workshops. Cleveland Public Theatre announces 3 day “poetic theatre Research” Workshop with Raymond Bobgan May 15-17 This Spring, Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan will hold a free, 3-day Poetic Theatre Research Workshop to share his process, further develop his ongoing creative work, and broaden the pool of artists for future projects. This workshop will serve as an introduction (or reintroduction for past collaborators) to Raymond’s unique approach to physical, experimental theatre—what he calls “Poetic Performance.” More About the Workshop: Poetic Performance is a style of theatre and a process for creating theatre that is intense, deeply personal, and gives primacy to physical and vocal expression, poetic and nonlinear storytelling, use of poetic and abstract text, use of song as a means for transformation and impact, and multilayered experiences. Welcoming artists of all experience levels and disciplines (dance, spoken word, performance, song, theatre, music, etc.) who are curious and dedicated to deepening their craft. This workshop is intended to be a rigorous creative research space, for artists interested in the potential of working on future CPT Cleveland CORE Ensemble projects, while currently, primarily focusing on the creative research process within an ensemble. About Raymond Bobgan: Raymond Bobgan creates new, bold, multilayered, and highly physical performances through an ever-evolving ensemble process. Raymond formed Cleveland CORE Ensemble in an effort to sustain the conditions to develop unique theatre practices, investigate the potential of the craft of acting, and create a distinctive body of theatrical works. The ensemble’s performances feature dynamic movement, poetic texts, original music, and an entrancing, dream-like style of their own. Raymond’s work has been seen in Romania, Brazil, Denmark, Serbia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Canada, and has been featured in American Theatre magazine, Canadian Theatre Review, Theatre Journal, and in Lisa Wolford’s book Grotowski’s Objective Drama Research. Raymond has created many works for CPT, including Dream Rust Workshop (a hypothesis project) for CPT and Kennedy Center’s Arts Across America; Frankenstein’s Wake with Holly Holsinger; Feefer Rising with Faye Hargate; Rusted Heart Broadcast; Insomnia: The Waking of Herselves with Holly Holsinger and Chris Seibert; and Blue Sky Transmission: A Tibetan Book of the Dead, co-produced by CPT and La MaMa ETC (Off-Broadway). Raymond was the first recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize in the discipline of Theatre. He is a two-time winner of the Creative Workforce Fellowship (theatre and composing) and a recipient of the Ohio Arts Council Fellowship. He is an alumnus of the National Theatre Artist Residency Program (Pew Charitable Trust and TCG).
