The Cleveland Chamber Choir finishes their season on May 8 & 9 with "La Fleur de la Renaissance," a program of rich, resplendent polyphony from Renaissance France. The concert is shaped around a pastiche mass built from several L’Homme armé settings, interwoven with chansons and motets by Josquin des Prez, Clément Janequin, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, and others. These towering figures shaped the soundscape of the 15th and early 16th centuries—Josquin, hailed as the “master of the notes,” transformed vocal expression with emotional depth and technical brilliance. Janequin was famous for his descriptive programmatic chansons, with vivid vocal pieces mimicking sounds like birds, street cries, and battles. Sweelinck was known as the “Orpheus of Amsterdam,” bridging Renaissance and Baroque music. We are now meeting at the Main Library 15425 Detroit Ave Lakewood, Ohio 5:30 - 8:30pm This is a group for all levels of screenwriters in Cleveland. Come meet other people with a passion for film and writing, share scripts, receive feedback and analyze professional scripts as they relate to the finished film. The goal of this group is to provide an ongoing forum for members to improve their skills, collaborate, and build relationships. Auditions for “My Man Godfrey” radio play at Makeshift Theater (at the historic Coach House in Akron 732 West Exchange St. Akron, Ohio 44302) Sunday, May 17th @ 2:00pm and Monday May 18th @ 6:30pm. Alternately, Tuesday May 19th @ 6:30pm, if necessary. The Makeshift Radio Theater will be presenting “My Man Godfrey” with live sound effects on June 13th and 19th at 7:00pm and June 14th, 20th and 21st at 2:00pm. Rehearsals begin May 26th through June 12th as set by the Director Linda Graske. The My Man Godfrey radio play mirrors the 1936 screwball comedy film. It follows a "forgotten man" from a city dump hired as a butler by an eccentric, wealthy family, bringing order to their chaos while navigating the romantic pursuits of two sisters. ALL AGES WELCOME!!! Actors will be asked to read multiple roles in a range of ages, both high society and blue collar. Some roles are giddy, some are uptight, some are suave, some are hard boiled. This is a classic 1930s screwball comedy—fast and funny and sometimes just silly. What age someone can SOUND LIKE is all that matters! That’s the beauty of radio. Main characters include: - Godfrey Smith: A seemingly homeless man who is actually a wealthy, disillusioned Bostonian; he becomes the calm, witty butler to the Bullocks. - Irene Bullock: The kind-hearted, scatter-brained younger daughter who hires Godfrey and falls in love with him. - Cornelia Bullock: Irene's spoiled, vindictive older sister who tries to get Godfrey fired. - Alexander Bullock: The overwhelmed father and businessman trying to manage his family's finances. - Angelica Bullock: The "ditsy" mother who is obsessed with the arts and her protégé. - Carlo: A mooching "protégé" supported by Angelica. - Molly: The sarcastic, observant maid who warns Godfrey about the family's antics. The School of Creative Arts at Tri-C invites high school students (entering grades 9 through 12) to participate in a two‑week Summer Theatre Workshop focused on foundational performance training. Students engage in the structured study of voice, movement and acting methodology while collaborating on the rehearsal and presentation of a one‑act play. The program is designed to promote artistic discipline, ensemble skills and college readiness within the performing arts. The program will be led by Tri-C Faculty and Guest Artists. Each day includes: Voice Training: Breath support, projection, diction, clarity, text work Movement and Ensemble Skills: Physical storytelling, alignment, character movement Acting Technique: Objectives, tactics, scene work, character development Rehearsals for a One-Act Play: Table work → blocking → tech → dress rehearsal → final performance for family and friends Whether students are new to theater or experienced performers, the camp offers individualized growth and hands-on creative exploration. The camp will conclude in the performance of a one-act play, "The Day the Internet Died," by Ian McWethy and Jason Pizzarello.
