Rocky River United Methodist Church is seeking a passionate, Christ-centered individual to serve as Contemporary Worship Leader. If you have experience leading contemporary worship services and strong singing skills, we invite you to apply to be our new Contemporary Worship Leader at our Sunday Harbor Service! For over the past 18 years, Rocky River UMC has built a strong contemporary worship service to help people meet Christ in the midst of their story. The Contemporary Worship Leader would work in coordination with the Pastors and the Director of Musicto create, organize, and lead a cohesive worship experience. This is a part-time position (15 hours per week). Previous experience is preferred. Essential Job Functions: Recruit, oversee and lead each Sunday a team of musicians who will comprise the worship band. Provide the music leadership of song selection in coordination with the pastor’s sermon each week and teach the selected music to the band for each week’s service. Hold weekly rehearsals on Thursday evenings and in the morning before the Harbor service. Select special music as necessary for monthly communion services or other times when necessary. Coordination of all essential elements of the worship service including but not limited to: the audio/visual team; musicians; the office staff; and the pastors. Direct the congregants in the overall music participation. Serve with enthusiasm as a member of a Christ-centered, mission-driven team that is committed to serve as the hands and feet of Christ Procurement of communion elements and the team in which to serve them on the first Sunday of each month. Create a welcoming culture. Administrative Requirements: Effective and efficient communication to all Harbor team members with weekly reminders of necessary activities for the Sunday service. Distribution of song selection in a timely manner before rehearsals to allow for band member preparation, Preparation of quarterly worship schedules covering the band members, and other staff members. Attend RRUMC staff meetings if available. Qualifications: 1- 3 years of leading contemporary worship services Strong singing skills, preferably trained Able to pass a background check Committed to RRUMC’s mission, vision and goals Proficiency on a lead instrument such as a piano/keyboard or rhythm guitar Able to mobilize and utilize teams of servant volunteers Skills: Effective verbal communication in one-on-one and large group settings Effective written communication Ability to read, write and understand English Good interpersonal skills and active listening ability Excellent organization skills Strong computer and technology skills Proficient in Planning Center or other planning software and CCLI SongSelect for chord chart and music selection/rehearsals. Campus will host a discussion on Friday, May 31, with one of the founders of the annual Burning Man festival, an event that draws more than 70,000 people to the Black Rock Desert in Nevada for a week of creative expression, at a fundraising event to support the renovation of the campus. The event, *“The Art of Community: A Discussion with Burning Man Co-Founder Michael Mikel,*” is a unique opportunity to learn about the “10 Principles of Burning Man” and how they can apply to permanent communities and placemaking. *"Burning Man is a three-decades-long experiment in creative collaboration,” said Michael Mikel. “It can provide important lessons for our time; lessons about community building, civic innovation, arts and culture."* - Michael Mikel (M2) is best known by his playa persona at Burning Man, “Danger Ranger.” He is both an historian and futurist with an interest in technology and social communities. He serves Burning Man as director of advanced social systems and is an Ambassador and speaker for the organization, as well as serves on its board of directors. M2 will speak on the 10 Principles (10P) of Burning Man, which were crafted in 2004 to help guide a growing network of participants and regional events. Such tenets as valuing creative collaboration and cooperation and welcoming all to participate, reflect the community’s ethos and culture as it had organically developed since the event’s inception in 1986. - Burning Man has become well-known for the large-scale works of art that are created for the event. Looking to get feel more confident at your next dance call? Do you want to work on picking up choreography more quickly? Verb Ballet offers musical theatre jazz, instructed by Jailyn Sherell Harris. Classes are Saturdays from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at 3558 Lee Road in Shaker Heights. In this class students learn routines from popular musicals. Previous classes have taught routines from A Chorus Line, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Footloose. Other classes have focused on contemporary Jazz and Fosse. Jailyn Sherell Harris is an Actor, Director/choreographer, and teaching artist from Cleveland, OH.
