The Musical! www.fredsternfeld.com<http://www.fredsternfeld.com>. DAVID A. WILLIAMS, MUSIC DIRECTOR David was born in Cleveland, Ohio into a musical family. His older brother, Wayne, was minister of music at East Mount Zion Baptist Church where the family attended and W.C. Handy was a cousin to their maternal grandmother. David began his professional career as a pianist for "The Gene Carroll/Entertainment Five Show" (WEWS-TV, ABC). In junior high school at the time, he was hired as music director for the last five years of its run. During this time, he sang with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and studied piano and voice at Cleveland State University. David also attended Summer Music Academy in Hudson, Ohio. There, he studied choral conducting with William Appling and Robert Shaw. David then left Cleveland to attend The University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music. While there, he worked on productions of Carousel; Flora, the Red Menace; Chess; Evita; Into the Woods; and Two Gentlemen of Verona. In 1988, he earned his bachelor's degree in Jazz and Studio Music. Upon graduation, he began three years of sailing around the world with Princess Cruises. David would play the main lounge shows, with small combos, or solo piano bar. In 1991, David returned to Cincinnati and in 1993, earned his master's degree in Orchestral Conducting. He then moved to Ft. Lauderdale where he musically directed shows with Jean Ann Ryan Productions for the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. These productions included George M; Chorus Line; Dreamgirls; Hello, Dolly; Pippin; Meet Me in St. Louis; and My Fair Lady. David left Ft. Lauderdale when he started conducting over six hundred performances of Smokey Joe's Café in Reno, Nevada; Germany; Switzerland; and Brazil. He later returned to Germany for productions of Beauty and the Beast and Grease. In 2007, David joined a company of West Side Story as assistant conductor/principal pianist. The tour included performances in Italy, Holland, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and China. It was the fiftieth anniversary of the show and included the Chinese premiere. A U.S. tour of I Can't Stop Loving You, a Ray Charles tribute, followed. After this, he decided to move back home to be closer to his family. Back in northeast Ohio, David performs with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra at Severance Hall and has conducted productions of Ragtime; A Little Night Music; Les Miserables; 1940's Radio Hour; 13, The Musical; She Loves Me; Jesus Christ Superstar; Sideshow; Man of La Mancha; Five Guys Named Moe; The Boys from Syracuse; and Children of Eden at various theaters. JEN JUSTICE, CHOREOGRAPHER Jen is honored to be a part of this amazing production team of Tuck Everlasting at French Creek Theatre. She has been working in the Cleveland area as both a choreographer and performer for more than 20 years. Her work has appeared at several local venues, including Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, The Cassidy Theatre, Lakeland Civic Theatre, The Fine Arts Association, True North, Pickwick and Frolic, as well as several high school and youth theater productions. Favorite production credits include Chicago, Pippin, American Idiot, The Producers, Spamalot, Shrek, White Christmas, Seussical, Grease, Beauty and The Beast, Hairspray, Jesus Christ Superstar, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Legally Blonde, as well as 7 installments of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. MERIDIAN THESIS CONCERT THIS WEEKEND Reserve your ticket before it sells out!! This spring, the Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University will continue its 2018-2019 season with *Meridian*, a thesis concert featuring dance works by MFA candidate Yizhen Hu, with additional works by guest artists and CWRU alumni Karlie Budge and Yidi Lin. Performances are March 28, 29, 30 at 8 p.m. and March 31 at 2:30 p.m. at Mather Dance Center on the Case Western Reserve University campus. *Yearning*, a solo work choreographed by Hu, explores the experience of people who are trapped by cultural and social restrictions, and find themselves enduring intense external pressure. As they find ways to overcome these forces in order to exert their own viewpoint, the result is finding their own paths and making their own choices. A duet for two men, *Synergism*, explores two males who both struggle in executing certain movements. Once they come to realize that one person can facilitate another to achieve the movements that the other cannot do, they cooperate and assist each other. Hu’s*Amalgamation *is an abstract group piece featuring an ensemble of undergraduate and graduate students. With music by Rob Power, the work displays the process of creating a movement idea, developing it, and then reducing it back to the original. Returning to the Mather Dance Center stage is *Inevitable*, which explores the emotional experiences of death and loss. Hu’s choreography investigates the struggles of grief and the frustrations of helplessness, along with the realization of the unavoidable mortality of human life. *Between Us, *choreographed by alumni Karlie Budge andYidi Lin, is a duet in five sections - Sneaking, Frisking, Fleeting, Floating, Seething - portraying the forming and falling out of a relationship*.*Budge graduated in 2016 earning her BA in dance and Lin graduated in 2016 earning her MFA in dance. The work will be performed by Yizhen Hu and Katie Nabors. *Meridian*runs March 28, 29, 30 at 8 p.m. and March 31 at 2:30 p.m. All performances take place at Mather Dance Center, 11201 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve University campus. What? Get Hep Swing presents - A swing dance party with Red Light Roxy When? Saturday, March 30th, 2019 Where? The Lithuanian Club, 877 E. 185th Street. Dance lessons? Yes. Join us for a beginner-friendly JITTERBUG lesson from 8-9 Band? Cleveland favorites, Red Light Roxy. The members of this band have been keeping swing dancers happy on the dance floor for over 20 years! Red Light Roxy is a professional band from Cleveland, Ohio that plays an upbeat mix of jazz standards, jump blues, swing, boogie-woogie and a dash of old-school R&B. Its repertoire comes from the Great American Songbook and includes familiar songs made famous by such legendary performers as Ella Fitzgerald, Ruth Brown, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong. Red Light Roxy has played at the Tri-C JazzFest, Wade Oval Wednesdays, Cain Park, Akron’s LOCK IV, the Shaker Heights Art and Music Festival, Legacy Village, Nighttown, Blu Jazz, the Bop Stop, the Rubber City Jazz Festival and a variety of city summer concerts and swing dances. https://www.redlightroxy.com/about-the-band/ Who may attend? EVERYONE is welcome! Do I need a partner? No, we rotate dance partners during the lesson. Some people find this floor a little slow so, wearing your leather soles or slippery soled shoes might be perfect. Attire is casual and comfy. Where what makes you feel good about yourself. What is the cost? $12 per person. $5 for first-time attendees. No pre-event ticket sales. Pay cash at the door. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun.
