Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute Summer 2019 Production Season * OLIVER! and A NEW BRAIN* Auditions for 2019 season: February 8th (6:30-8:30 pm) Feb 9th (2:30-5:30 pm) Feb. 10th(12-3 pm) Call backs/A New Brain - Feb 10th (3:30-7pm) Call backs /Oliver!-Feb.23rd (4-6 pm), Feb.24th (1-6 pm) General auditions for the shows will be held together. Callbacks will be held separately. The rehearsal schedule is set up so that students can participate in both productions. Bring sheet music - an accompanist will be provided. There will be dance call for Oliver! at call backs. There is a production fee associated with each show. *OLIVER!*, with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart is based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist. HBTI's production of Oliver runs for 6 performances: June 28 - July 7, 2019. It is directed and choreographed by Bebe Weinberg Katz, musical direction by John Krol and set design by T.Paul Lowry. This Tony award-winning musical adaptation of the classic Dickens’ novel springs to life with some of the memorable characters and songs ever to hit the stage; Food Glorious Food, Where Is Love, Consider Yourself and As Long As He Needs Me to name just a few of the songs that earned Lionel Bart the Tony for Best Original Score. OLIVER is one of the few musicals to win an academy award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actor and audiences alike. About OLIVER!: The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse,becomes a neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance among a group of petty thieves and pickpockets lead by elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr Brownlow, takes him in. Reluctantly, he had been composing a song for a children’s television show that features a frog- Mr. Bungee- and the specter of the this large green character and unfinished work haunts him throughout his medical ordeal. What was thought to be a tumor turns out to be something more operable and Gordon recovers, grateful for a chance to compose the songs he yearns to produce. Tuesday 12:00-1:30 *Advanced Adult Post-Modern * at The Somatic Center Tuesday 7:30-8:30 *Open Level Adult Post-Modern * at the Beck Center for the Arts Saturday 11:45-1:00 *Advanced Teen/Adult Contemporary * at the Beck Center for the Arts Sunday 5:00-6:30 *Advanced Adult Post-Modern* at The Somatic Center Sunday 6:45-7:45 *Adult Improv/Partnering (open level)* at The Somatic Center *Adult Post-Modern/contemporary will focus of exploring and strengthening the body’s natural pathways and sequences through post-modern techniques. Class will contain elements of improvisation, core-distal relationship, sequencing, spiraling, release, and dynamic contrast. Dancers will be encouraged to focus on individual goals and pathways with support and direction from the instructor. Prior dance experience is required. * *Adult Improv/Partnering will center around sensory and task-based movement cues as individuals, duets, trios, and groups. Don't let the word improv scare you! She has combined the two degrees and worked as a teaching artist for outreach programming for Attack Theatre and Dancing Wheels Company and School. Rebecca has performed with Marcia Custer, Kathy Diehl, Amanda Tarr Dance Company, The Movement Project, MegLouise Dance, and Carmen Caceres. Her work has been selected for presentation most recently at SPACES Art Gallery, Cleveland Dance Fest, dotdotdot, and has been commissioned by The Movement Project. Rebecca has taught various masterclasses including classes as a guest artist at Slippery Rock University, Cleveland Dance Fest, and The Movement Project’s 2016 Winter Intensive. She has also worked as a Production Manager for Heidi Latsky Dance and IDACO Dance Festival. Rebecca is currently the Education and Community Engagement Coordinator for GroundWorks Dance Theater and an instructor at Beck Center for the Arts. She views her work with dance as a vehicle for change, awareness, education, protest, and acceptance.
