[1] WHAT TO PREPARE: Please prepare 32 bars (about 60-90 seconds) of a song in the style of the show, and bring notated sheet music for your selection, as an accompanist will be provided. WHAT TO BRING: * A theatre resume is recommended, but it is not required. * A headshot is not required, but if you wish to provide one, we will gladly accept it. Be prepared to have your photograph taken when you sign in on your audition day. * A list of any conflicts you may have during the rehearsal process. No conflicts will be allowed for tech week or show dates. WHAT TO EXPECT: For auditions, you will check in, fill out a small amount of paperwork, and then perform your audition piece. Expect to be at the theatre for about an hour. For callbacks, there will be a dance call for everyone, then you will run a song or two from the show based on the role you were called back for. After that, the director will group people together and have you perform some cold reads from show scripts that will be provided. Expect to be at the theatre for two to three hours. REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: Read through will be Sunday, September 28th Rehearsals will begin Monday, September 29th, and will generally follow a Monday thru Thursday, 6:30-9:30pm schedule. Tech week will begin on Sunday, November 30th, and run through Thursday, December 4th. SHOW DATES: Opening Weekend: December 5, 6, 7 Second Weekend: December 12, 13, 14 Closing Weekend: December 19, 20, 21 CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: Please note that with the exception of Susan Waverly, all ages listed are a generalization and will not be strictly adhered to when casting. BOB WALLACE - (late 20's to mid 30's) A major singing star, Bob is the guiding force behind the song-and-dance team of Wallace and Davis. He wears his fame easily and is a born leader, but has some trouble with social and romantic interactions. Despite his occasional gruffness, he is a deeply kind and principled man who is searching for his true love. * A superb singer with a crooning style who moves very well. Baritone. PHIL DAVIS - (late 20's to mid 30's) The fun-loving, go-getting song-and-dance partner of the team of Wallace and Davis. An irrepressible clown, operator and incorrigible ladies' man who is determined to see his friend happy, even if it requires scheming and outright deception. He has a boyish charm and sex appeal. * Strongjazz and tap-dancing needed-a song-and-dance comic performer. Bari-Tenor. BETTY HAYNES - (mid to late 20's) The sensible, responsible half of the upcoming song-and-dance team, The Haynes Sisters. Destined to be a star in her own right, she is nonetheless hesitant to take the spotlight for herself. A woman of decent, upstanding principles, she is devoted to her younger sister. Like Bob, she hides her yearning for true love under a protective shell. * A female singer of quiet beauty and charm with a rich chest mix sound and a soprano extension. Must move well. JUDY HAYNES - (early 20's) The younger, more ambitious, slightly scheming Haynes sister. While wholesome and adorable, she is sexy and flirty - a winning charmer whom no man can resist. * Strong jazz and tap dancing needed - a major song-and-dance performer. Chest Mix. GENERAL HENRY WAVERLY - (late 50's to mid 60's) A retired U.S. Army General, adjusting to returning to civilian life in post World War II America. Once a powerful leader, he now struggles to run an Inn in Vermont. He remains a man of great principle and dignity. Beneath his curmudgeonly military exterior lies a warm, compassionate man in need of family and love. * With the exception of one line, a non-singing role. MARTHA WATSON - (late 40's to mid 60's) Once a Broadway star, now the general's housekeeper at the Inn. Martha has a very dry, wry, wisecracking sense of humor. Bighearted but completely unsentimental, she runs the General's life in spite of his protestations. She is an irrepressible meddler, but always for what she believes to be the other guy's best interests. * A winning, appealing character-comedienne with a clarion belt voice. SUSAN WAVERLY - (9-12 years old to play 9 years old) The General's granddaughter, Susan is a lovable and outgoing real kid. She is very smart, wise beyond her years, and cares deeply about her grandfather. Once bitten hard by the showbiz bug, she demonstrates everything that is winning in the ultimate child performer. * She must have an excellent belt voice, and be able to move well. RALPH SHELDRAKE- (mid to late 30's) Army buddy of Bob and Phil's, now a major television executive with the Ed Sullivan Show. Fast-talking, New York professional. * A Baritone. EZEKIEL FOSTER- (mid 40's to late S0's) The ultimate taciturn New Englander, who helps out at the inn and takes life at a very slow pace. MIKE-(mid 20's to late 30's) Bob and Phil's stage manager. Has a tendency to be over-dramatic and completely hysterical, but will get things done. Never seen without his whistle and clipboard, which he uses to attempt to keep order. Beck Center Seeks Middle Eastern Actor for Studio Theatre Opener

Beck Center will hold auditions on Monday, July 14 & Tuesday, July 15, from 6:00-8:00 pm for the timely and touching new play *ANDY WARHOL IN IRAN *by Persian-American playwright Brent Askari, which will open the 2025-2026 season in the Studio Theatre, running October 3 thru November 2. Rehearsals will begin on or about September 2. This two-character play is set in 1976 when Andy Warhol actually traveled to Tehran to paint portraits of the Shah and his wife. In the play Warhol encounters a young Iranian revolutionary who has been sent to kidnap the famed artist, hoping to gain support for his group's mission:* to overthrow the Shah.* As they wait for a getaway car to arrive, the two exchange tales of life and death, art and poetry, family and culture, and discover that two people from different worlds may share a surprising bond. Beck Center is seeking an actor of SWANA (South West Asian and North African) ethnicity, ages 18 to 30's, to play Farhad, a passionate young Iranian activist who abandoned his college studies in America to return home after his father was arrested for opposing the Shah. Gender: male - Age: 40 to 60 Vocal range top: G4 - Vocal range bottom: C#3 Lord Savage Lord Savage is noted in the script as “having better things to do” and those things are probably to see and be seen around town in the best clubs, establishments and company. Titled from birth, he’s probably used his money to gain status. He is a bit of a dandy. General Lord Glossop A pompous retired army man and member of the Board of Governors. Gender: male - Age: 50 to 60 Vocal range top: C4 - Vocal range bottom: G#3 Sir Archibald Proops A Q.C. and government official. Busy man, “quick and methodical”, likely equates everything to it’s relevance to the law. He would be the guiding force on the board of governors in terms of what is lawful, so would be quick to quash anything that he deemed ill advised. Emma Carew The daughter of Chairman Danvers and Jekyll's beloved fiancée who is refined and desired by all of the socialite men. Gender: female - Age: 20 to 25 Vocal range top: C6 - Vocal range bottom: A3 Lucy Harris The gorgeous 'main attraction' at a local gentleman's club. At the bottom of her luck, she becomes the object of Hyde's obsession. Lucy is feisty and wild, but also cautious and aware. Gender: Male | Age: 30s to 50s | Vocal range: B2-D5 DRAGON A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. Gender: Female | Age: 20s to 40s | Vocal range: F3-Eb5 GINGY A gingerbread man initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. His wit and resolution help him both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. Puppet. Can be operated by actress appearing as Sugar Plum Fairy. The Belleville Quartet is a recently established band made up of longtime contributors to Northeast Ohio’s musical community. Guitarist Brad Bolton is an expert in jazz and swing from the 1930s-60; guitarist Topher Starzyk is known for playing both solo classical guitar and in swing bands; vocalist Sally Kandel has performed with groups such as Rio Neon and Dirty Shirleys, and clarinetist Eric Seddon is a mainstay of the Cleveland jazz scene. Together they indulge their passion for the Parisian “gypsy jazz” of the 1930s, spearheaded by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephan Grapelli, with a repertoire of period pieces by Reinhardt, George Gershwin and Fats Waller, as well as more contemporary pop tunes by artists such as the Beatles, performed in 30s “hot jazz” style. One of the most enduring shows of all time, *Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,* is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. Told entirely through song with the help of the Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family. Director of the production, Joe Asente, says that even if you have seen *Joseph* before, you will still find new surprises in this production, "We knew going into this that Youngstown audiences were very familiar with this show. Between the universally beloved Donny Osmond film version, and the rich history of this show being produced locally on a Broadway-scale by our friends at Easy Street Productions, there was a built-in expectation of what audiences would want to see from this show. We tried very hard to honor and meet those expectations, while also sprinkling in a few of our own new, creative twists throughout. Without giving too much away, we have gone in new directions with several of our characters by updating some of their references to help entertain our contemporary audience in ways that they may not expect. We hope audiences will come and see this new take on Joseph and come experience this show and be surprised by it in new and exciting ways!"
