Spotlights Theater Presents “The Importance of Being Earnest” The Broadview Heights Spotlights Theater will be presenting Oscar Wilde’sclassic comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest, August 24 – September8, 2018. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 PM. A 3:00 PMmatinee will be held on September 2. All performances take place at theBroadview Heights Cultural Arts Building (Home of the Spotlights Theater),located next to the Police Station on the Broadview Center property, 9543Broadview Road. Tickets are $13 for adults and $12 for students and seniors andmay be purchased online at www.broadview-heights-spotlights.org. There will be a special performance on Thursday,September 6th. Proceedsbenefit the Broadview Heights Community Foundation which is helping fund thenew amphitheater at Broadview Center. Tickets are $30 each and include an Horsd’oeuvre Reception at 6:30 PM prior to the show, dessert at intermission, and anon-alcoholic Beverage Bar. Guests may bring their own wine to enjoy duringthis special event (glassware provided). Tickets can be purchased at FuerstAutomotive at Broadview & Wallings. The play, first written and performed in 1895,carries the subtitle “A Trivial Comedy for Serious People,” and its fast-pacedantics and witty language are highly entertaining for modern audiences. Dashingmen-about-town John Worthing (Andrew Keller) and Algernon Moncrieff (CharlesHargrave) pursue fair ladies Gwendolen Fairfax (Giorgiana Lascu) and CecilyCardew (Lainne Davis). Matters are complicated by the imaginary charactersinvented by both men to cover their on-the-sly activities—not to mention thedisapproval of Gwendolen’s mother, the formidable Lady Bracknell (Cat Kenney). The rest of the cast includes Chris Bizub, Elizabeth Allard, and Eli Ravenson. The Spotlights’ production is directed by Tyson Douglas Rand, Artistic Directorof the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival. The show is produced bySpotlights’ Trustees Sarah Price and Tara Corkery, with Technical Direction byTim Anderson.

Who will solve the mystery of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time?" Weathervane Playhouse to present 2015 Tony Award-Winner. AKRON- Weathervane Playhouse presents The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, the 2015 Tony Award-Winner for best play, September 6 - 23 in our Founders Theater. Show times are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. There is also one school matinee on September 19 at 10:00 a.m. with a special student/teacher price of $7. It is 7 minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor's dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington. 15-year old Christopher has an extraordinary brain: He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. He carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that forever changes his world. Adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens from the novel by Mark Haddon, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has won 7 Olivier Awards, the 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, the 2015 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play, and the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play. This production is directed by Melanie YC Pepe, Weathervane's Chief Executive Artistic Director, who says of the show: "For many people on the autism spectrum, experiencing our world is a lot like Christopher's view of prime numbers. He says: 'Prime numbers are what is left when you have taken all the patterns away. I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them.' "Imagine the challenge: You can't identify the hidden curriculum of social interactions by reading body language, tone of voice and facial expressions. Sounds are too loud, lights too bright, and everything that touches you is uncomfortable, hurts or feels like an aggressive action. Imagine living in that world; learning in that world; or working in that world..." Fall auditions are here and are you prepared? Dr. Christopher Hutton, Baritone, is taking new voice students and excited to get you physically and mentally prepared for auditions and performances. Dr. Hutton has a Masters Degree and Doctorate of Music Arts degrees in Vocal Pedagogy (Science of Singing) from Arizona State University, and is fluent in teaching both belting/music theatre technique and classical technique. Christopher attended Youngstown State University where he received his Bachelors in Voice Performance. He has also performed opera at regional opera houses for over thirteen years. Olmsted Performing Arts is in need of a ballet instuctor to add to their dance faculty. Ideal candidate has in depth knowledge of ballet, proper terminology, a focus on classical training and experience presenting technical and performance concepts and ideas to children of various ages. Three classes available to start with potential for lots of growth in the future. Immediate start preferred but will work with start date for right candidate. Here is a little more information on the dance program at OPA: Olmsted Performing Arts is a dance studio centered around the mission of providing students top level instruction in technique and artistry from the highest caliber teachers in the area. At OPA every class is centered on a solid technical foundation that is age and level appropriate. In every class our dancers are challenged technically, mentally and artistically to develop into the best performing artists they can be. Most classes are open to students of any age and are grouped on skill level. Our faculty includes instructors who have ballet company credits, international dance tour credits, elite certification credits, choreography award credits and much more to their names. Our faculty is dedicated to sharing their passion for dance with the next generation and using their extensive knowledge and experience to train students to be the best they can be. OPA faculty is constantly performing and continuing their own dance education to guarantee our students are receiving the most up to date and relevant training.

Hudson Players does not pre-cast. Written by Joseph Kesslring, Arsenic and Old Lace is a timeless comedic gem of American theatre. Life is good for Mortimer Brewster. With a dream job as a drama critic for a prominent New York newspaper and recent engagement to his sweetheart Elaine, what could go wrong? Well, what about finding out that his sweet, spinster aunts Martha and Abby have been poisoning lonely old men for years with homemade elderberry wine laced with a touch of arsenic. More? What about learning that his brother Teddy, who thinks himself to be Teddy Roosevelt, has been burying his aunts' victims in the basement thinking they succumbed to Yellow Fever at the Panama Canal. Had enough? How about Mortimer's other brother, the maniacal criminal Jonathan, who decides to hideout from the police at his aunts' house with alcoholic sidekick, Dr. Einstein, on the same night that the aunts were planning to bury their latest victim, which also happens to be the same night Mortimer stops by with his fiancée. Insanity doesn't run in the Brewster family - it gallops! Mix in multiple policemen, including one who wants to be a playwright, and Elaine's pious minister father, Mortimer must rally to help his aunts and protect his fiancé - all while trying to keep his own sanity and avoid his murderous brother's intentions. Officer O'Hara A police officer, O'Hara is a would-be playwright who pesters Mortimer to read his play. Jonathan Brewster Nephew of Abby and Martha Brewster, Jonathan is a psychopath who has numerous murders to his credit and no scruples whatsoever. Is bit oversensitive to his "new" appearance. Dr. Einstein A plastic surgeon and an alcoholic in his fifties, Dr. Einstein has changed Jonathan's face three times, with his most recent work resulting in a Boris Karloff resemblance. The Rev. Dr. Harper Minister and father of Elaine. A bit pompous and protective, very ministerial in his manner.
