HATHAWAY BROWN THEATRE INSTITUTE STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR SUMMER TRAINING - 2018 Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI) , now in it's 6th year, offers performing arts training and professional production experiences for young people from first grade through college. HBTI, a part of the Performing Arts Department at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, offers young people a challenging curriculum of drama, dance and/or music, as well as the opportunity to participate in fully staged productions. HBTI boasts instructors who are some of the top professional actors, directors, designers and academics in the area, and who have a long list of successful former students who have gone on to major university theatre programs, Broadway, national touring companies, film and television. HBTI faculty for 2018 season include India Burton, Deja Conner, T.J.Gainley, Charlotte Harris, Adam Howard, Dan Hendrock , Megan Herman, Bebe Weinberg Katz, John Krol, Matthew Wilks,Katie Wilkinson, Katie Zarecki and Ryan Zarecki. Directing the main stage productions will be Bebe Weinberg Katz , Dan Hendrock with music direction by John Krol, scenic design, lighting and projections by T. Paul Lowry, sound design by Carlton Guc and costume design by Chailla Geib HBTI offers programs on three levels: PRIME( grades 1-3) , (*NEW THIS SUMMER)* INTERMEDIATE (grades 4-6) and PERFORMING ARTS TRAINING (7th- college). Sessions One and Two are each 3-week long and Sessions Three is for 2 weeks. Session start dates are June 18, July 9 and July 30 respectively. HBTI Director Bebe Weinberg Katz said, "While the training at HBTI is geared toward the young performer interested in a professional theatre career, all our students gain the confidence, discipline and social skills that will help give them the extra edge in this highly-competitive world, no matter what their eventual field of pursuit. The students also find the process immensely *FUN, *exciting, rewarding and a great place to make life long friends." Since 2013 Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI) has been the summer theatre home for more than 800 students who have taken classes and workshops in acting, musical theatre and dance and nearly 300 of its students have been involved in HBTI's highly acclaimed productions. These productions have received numerous broadwayworld.com nominations and awards. Most notable are HBTI *productions of Children of Eden (2017), **Into the Woods (2016), Rent -school edition (2014) **and **You're a Good Man Charlie Brown (2013) which have all * been named “best theatre production for young audiences". This season, HBTI will mount two full productions: Meredith Willson's *THE MUSIC MAN**, *directed and choreographed by Bebe Weinberg Katz, (June 29 - July 8) and *THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE* , directed by Dan Hendrock (July 27 – August 5). HBTI productions are a direct extension of the training. "Our shows allow the students to apply the tools and techniques they learn during the day in productions mounted by top professional directors and designers." Barb Stitzer started modeling and acting at age 10 in her home town of Los Angeles. She has appeared in dozens of commercials, print ads, television pilots and plays, as well as having had a recurring role on Days of Our Lives. She studied for two years with Sanford Meisner himself, and teaches acting in the Meisner style, in a thoughtful, positive and empowering environment. She is a Master Photographer and develops models as well. She lives in Hudson with her husband, Buzz, and daughters, Tenley, a model, singer, cheerleader, diver and show kid, and Zoe, who is a sophomore at the Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. ABOUT THE PLAY: Waiting for Godot...is a play by Nobel Prize Winner Samuel Beckett, in which two seemingly homeless men wait for someone—or something—named Godot. Vladimir and Estragon wait near a tree, inhabiting a drama spun from their own consciousness. The result is a comic wordplay of poetry, dreamscapes, and nonsense, which has been interpreted as mankind’s inexhaustible search for meaning. and while waiting they encounter three other characters. Waiting for Godot is Beckett's translation of his own original French play, En attendant Godot, and is subtitled (in English only) "a tragicomedy in two acts. In a poll conducted by the British Royal National Theatre in 1990 it was voted the “most significant English language play of the 20th century”. Beckett’s play remains one of the most magical and beautiful allegories of our time. The First Company Meeting and Read-through will be from 1:00-5:30pm on Sunday, July 15. Rehearsals (5 per week: Mon-Thurs eve and Sunday afternoons) will commence on August 21, 2017. Performances (9): Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm, August 24-September 9 The Director strongly advises that actors read the play before attending the auditions. BRECKSVILLE THEATRE IS casting the following 5 Male roles: * Vladimir (called ‘Didi’)—Age 40s-50s (but younger and older men can give it a shot) * Estragon (called ‘Gogo’)—Age 40s-50s (but younger and older men can give it a shot) * Pozzo—Age Late 30s-70s, preferably plump…a “captain of industry” * Lucky—Age 20s, preferably tall and thin * A Boy—Age 8-12 Note that all must be able to learn lines early and accurately. Getting the words right, as Beckett wrote them, is one key to the success of this extraordinary play.
