The Dark Room is an ongoing event held on the second Tuesday of each month. The Dark Room affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. Sneaky lawyer and broker Nils Krogstad, however, threatens to expose Nora's secret...will the marriage between Torvald and Nora survive? Through the Workshop’s learning process, children are exposed to all facets of staging a performance, including rehearsals, props, costumes, makeup, singing, and dancing. ACT believes that involvement in our Workshops will help instill a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts. Each Workshop is held at the theatre, 115 E Pioneer Trail from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday, culminating in a full on-stage performance at the end of each session. *To insure the best quality experience for each student, ACT limits the registration to 60 children for each Workshop, which means they quickly sell out early every year. * In addition to two weeks of intensive, daylong theatre experience, the Workshop fee ($275 per child, $225 for each sibling) includes: Commemorative T-shirt, Rehearsal CD, and *Shrek The Musical Jr *script to keep.

Great Lakes Theater Announces Auditions for Actor-Teachers Great Lakes Theater (GLT) announces auditions for non-Equity actor/teachers for its School Residency Program for the 2018 - 2019 school year. Actors of all cultural backgrounds are encouraged to audition. These are full-time, seasonal, paid positions, offered from August/September, 2018 through May, 2019. Requirements include an undergraduate degree in any discipline, as well as previous stage experience or actor training. Teaching experience or prior work with elementary, junior high or high school age students is a plus, but not required. Applicants must have a valid driver license, a reliable automobile and complete a background check. Applicants are requested to prepare one Shakespearean monologue and one contrasting contemporary monologue for the audition. Both monologues should total no more than three minutes combined. All auditions are by appointment only. Applicants must schedule an audition online. What exactly is The Manhattan Project - Cleveland Lab? The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects.
