One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children, and even the occasional inanimate object. In The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale. A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure! AUDITION PROCESS Auditions will consist of cold reads and some basic movement exercises. Please bring a hardcopy resume. CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS Richard Hannay 20’s - 50’s. Male presenting. Any race or ethnicity. 1930s leading man type. Suave, dashing and debonair. Intelligent and resourceful. Actor must be able to maintain an upper-class British accent and be an adept physical comic with the stamina to be present for the entire play. Annabella/Pamela/Margaret 20’s - 50’s. Female presenting. Any race or ethnicity. Primarily the classic 1930s British ingenue, but also plays a Russian woman and a Scottish farmer. Must be able to perform all of the applicable accents. Must be an adept physical comic and create all three VERY different characters. Clown #1 & Clown #2 Age 18+. Any gender, race, or ethnicity. The two clowns portray over 150 roles over the course of the play and are essentially EVERYONE that the two leads are not. They must be physically agile and have a great deal of stamina, in addition to having a slew of accents (especially European) and voices at their disposal. Exemplary comedic timing is ESSENTIAL! Must be able to lift certain set pieces and move skillfully throughout the stage and between roles. The Broadview Heights Spotlights will hold auditions for *School House Rock Live*. Auditions will be held by appointment on *Saturday, March 1 from 2:00PM – 5:00PM* and *Monday, March 3 from 6:00PM – 9:00PM*. Auditioners (ages 14 and up) should sign up for an on the Spotlights' website: www.broadview-heights-spotlights.org. No Equity contracts are available for this show. Invited callbacks, if necessary, may be scheduled later in the week. Rehearsals will begin the week of March 9. The show runs May 2 – 11, 2025 and will include Saturday and Sunday matinees. The show will be directed by Reilly Davidson and music directed by Clay Hoffner. *Schoolhouse Rock Live!* follows Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction.” Those auditioning should: - Plan to attend only one day of auditions. - Be familiar with the show and its music. - Prepare two one-minute, contrasting songs (one up-tempo, one ballad) in the style of the show (contemporary musical theater/pop). - Bring sheet music in the correct keys, hole-punched in a three-ring binder. Singers will not be permitted to sing a cappella. - Bring a list of conflicts between March 9 and May 11. *The Department of Dance Presents Imagatorium Spring 2025* Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Dance announces its final production of 2024-2025 season, *Imagatorium*, a concert featuring dance works by graduate students Megan Gregory, Noah Hardy and Maizy Windham, along with senior capstone projects by Hannah Boehringer and Natalie Tangpricha. Performances are April 10, 11, 12 at 7:30 p.m.. All performances are located at Mather Dance Center, 11040 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve campus in University Circle. Gregory’s ensemble work *Sands* is a metaphor for the human experience and aims to capture the waxing and waning of one’s resolve to face ongoing adversity. Time drags on as the dancers struggle together and as individuals, and their resilience drives any progress made along the way. This glimpse into their experiences conveys that it’s not always easy to weather the storm of life, and sometimes the journey can’t be made alone. *Vignettes*, choreographed by Noah Hardy, is a triptych of miniature dances set to a variety of music. Utilizing a combination of projection mapping and LiDAR tracking, the dance has a unique visual identity that follows each of the four dancers, as the identities all begin to blur together throughout the piece. Maizy Windham’s *Jeu de Jour* is a piece for four dancers, a set of three chairs, and contemporary choreography inspired by the movement vocabulary of childhood games. *Jeu de Jour* expands upon this idea of recreation and competition through the relationships between dancers to uncover the outcomes of intrepid play. *Flux* is a collaboration work by Hannah Boehringer and Natalie Tangpricha. This duet is a journey between chaos and order through playful yet powerful movement. Solo and duet sections depict a struggle for dominance, with each shift guided by the music’s ever-changing structure. While fast-paced and rhythmic, moments of pause offer space for reflection. The piece ultimately highlights the fluid interplay between structure and spontaneity, immersing the audience in its contrasting forces. *Ticket Information* Tickets are $15 for CWRU students with ID, $17 for seniors age 60+, CWRU personnel and non-CWRU students, and $20 for general admission.
