PLAYWRIGHTS LOCAL Announces its 2017 OPEN SUBMISSION PERIOD New ten-minute, one-act, and full-length plays by writers from Northeast Ohio accepted from January 1 - March 31, 2017. No fee for submitting! Playwrights Local seeks original, unproduced plays for our 2017-2018 programs, including the 3rd Annual Cleveland Playwrights Festival (Fall 2017) and our developmental Play Lab (Winter/Spring 2018). Playwrights may submit up to two pieces: one ten-minute play and one one-act or full-length play. All unproduced, original plays for adult audiences are accepted, including one-person plays. Auditions to Sing The National Anthem for the Lake Erie Crushers

The Lake Erie Crushers baseball team will be holding auditions for anyone interested in singing the National Anthem before home games. Auditions will be held at Spranger Stadium located in Avon, Ohio at the Rt. 611 exit of I-90. About the Concert: Renowned choreographer, Dianne McIntyre, creates a new work "The Call of Mrs. Hamer", through the voice of courageous civil rights activist, Fannie Lou Hamer. The choreography and the dancer express the longings, fortitude and struggles streaming from the music and the unspoken parts that lie in the souls of individuals then and now. Performed by graduate student, DeAndra Stone, with costuming by Kenya Woods, the piece delves into an emotional journey targeting determination, fearlessness and enthusiasm. New CSU dance faculty member Kathy Diehl, of Rochester, NY, has created a new work, "glassPoints" set on CSU Dance Company that presents ideas relative to glass objects, sounds, and qualities as thematic layers. Additionally, Diehl and members of KDiehl Danceworks will perform "in/out", a work that premiered in 2016 and is an exploration of spatial patterns, both internal and external. Diehl will also perform "3 spaces", a structured improvisational journey moving through three distinct soundscapes with electronic musician and composer Matt Ryals. Premiering in 1995, "The Last Dance at Euclid Beach" was created in recognition of the city of Cleveland's bicentennial year. Members of the Browning Center Personal History Group shared their memories of the Euclid Beach Park and its world famous Dance Pavilion. These taped memories formed the organizing structure for a series of danced and spoken vignettes that span a wide range of experiences and express a broad range of emotions. CSU theatre students, alumni, faculty, and members of the CSU Dance Company relive these memories of the famed Dance Pavilion and its lasting effect. The Wadsworth Footlighters announce an open audition call for a zany comedy of the highest order, “Drinking Habits” by Tom Smith. Auditions will occur evening Monday, March 20th at 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church located at 146 High Street, Wadsworth, OH 44281. SYNOPSIS: The Sisters of Perpetual Sewing, Sister Augusta and Sister Philomena, in an act of desperation, are secretly making wine and selling it, in an effort to keep the convent from closing. Mother Superior, who is opposed to alcohol entirely, is kept in the dark about this little prize winning secret. Enter Paul and Sally, reporters and former fiancées, hot on the trail of the winemaking nuns. They go undercover as a nun and priest, but their presence, combined with the addition of a new nun, Mary Catherine, spurs paranoia throughout the convent that spies have been sent from Rome to shut them down. Caretaker George and Father Chenille harbor jealousies, missed opportunities and pasts that have aged over the years like a bottle of vino. Wine and secrets are inevitably spilled as everyone tries to preserve the convent. CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: Mother Superior: Age range 40 plus – tee totaling head of the convent where “the devil’s hair tonic” is being made right under her nose. Worried convent will be shut down by spies sent from Rome and will go to great lengths to stay open. Sister Augusta: Age range 30 plus – Good hearted but willing to do anything to prevent Mother Superior from finding out about her an Sister Philamena’ s alternate pressing plans Sister Philamena: Age range 30 plus – Very innocent but has a heart of gold. Has a very hard time concealing the operation she and her cohort Sister Augusta are involved in. Sister Mary Catherine: Age range mid 20 plus – Transferred to Sisters of Perpetual Sewing. She knows that she belongs in this convent, but is hiding a secret that brought her there. Sally: Age range mid 20 plus – Serious newspaper reporter that feels she’s on the brink of cracking open an expose to put her into Ace reporter status after many years of being held back. Goes undercover to grab the expose of a lifetime. Paul: Age range mid 20 plus – Sally’s fiancé that she left at the altar to pursue her dreams. Strong physical comedy skills are extremely helpful to portray this character. Forlorn and henpecked, he’ll do anything to get Sally back including putting on long flowing robes. George: Age range mid 20 plus – Simple, Innocent Care taker and maintenance man for the convent. Father Chenille: HAS BEEN CAST Actors: No monologues. Cold Read form the script. First time actors are warmly welcome. Please bring current headshot if available (not required), and conflict dates with you. Production runs May 18 through May 21, 2017. Auditions will be a cold read from the script. The rehearsal schedule will be determined on cast availability and conflict schedule. Rehearsals run Sunday through Thursday evenings. CREW MEMBERS & NEWBIES: Audition nights are a perfect time to come out, meet the director, and express your interest in helping out backstage, be it in the role of a stage manager, lights & sound operator, concessions, or whatever else you might like to do. They’re also GREAT for first-timers to come out and observe how things are done, maybe express interest in being a helper, or read for a part! You never know what can happen! Questions?
