The Teaching Artist position has two areas of responsibility: * Instruction: teach the basics of their primary discipline to children participants; create and implement curriculum; collaborate with CPT Education Staff and other professional artists; develop original performance material * Administration: work with CPT Education Staff - Program Director in all areas of program delivery including: participant recruitment, management and evaluation; daily class plans and reports; and development of program partner relationships PROGRAM DESCRIPTION * Brick City Theatre An after-school and summertime theatre arts program for children ages 5-14 living in public housing, offered in partnership with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority. Under the dedicated guidance of CPT Teaching Artists, children enhance academic and life skills as they develop their own plays and perform them for their community. * Student Theatre Enrichment Program (STEP) Rigorous training for inner city youth ages 14-19 in acting, writing, movement, voice, production, and touring. During the 8-week summer program, students work in collaboration with CPT artists to develop an original play or an inventive adaptation of an existing work, and then tour it to outdoor venues throughout the City of Cleveland. SKILLS REQUIRED * Extensive experience in at least one theatre-related arts discipline (dance, drumming, singing, acting, creative writing, etc.) * Experience teaching children and/or teenagers. * Qualified to be a strong role model for inner city youth and/or teenagers. * Energetic, responsive, flexible, creative * Attentive to details, ability to work independently * Openness to learning new techniques in the creation of original performance material CONSIDERATIONS * Programs run 8-10 weeks, 4-6 days per week, June-Aug 2017 * Daytime and early evening hours - or - Afternoon and evening hours (depending on program) * Extended days for training and program touring * Artist must have a reliable means of transportation. Abbe Road Elyria, OH 44070 Auditions are open to all LCCC Students, Faculty/Staff and Community Members. No AEA contracts available. Production Dates are April 27-29, 2017 8 pm performances Rehearsals commence on or around February 27, 2017 Synopsis: A mystery writer rents a New England house that is the rendezvous point for some jewel thieves. The focal point of the set is the closet which opens into a living room and a library. A body found in the closet promptly disappears only to be succeeded by another. The hunt for the jewels reaches a climax at two A.M. when four couples unknown to each other turn up to search. Not since the days of Mack Sennett has there been such a hilarious series of entrances and exits. What to Prepare: Monologues are welcome, but the focus of the auditions will be on cold readings of scenes from the script. Copies of the script are on reserve and available for perusal in the LCCC Bass Library. Please note that they cannot be checked out. The following roles are available. Nothing has been precast. LILLIAN SEYMOUR 35+ Designer of high end fashion for women; a classy lady but with an odd sense of humor. LYLE ROGERS 35+ Lillian’s new husband; good sport who puts up with more than he should. JENNY 20’s Simple, home-spun maid/cook; she has a big secret. RANDOLPH late 20’s Trying hard to be a classy crook, and not succeeding. HELEN O’TOOLE any age; A “down home” real estate agent with a secret. VERNON COOKLEY late 40’s/early 50’s; Sheriff; he’s a combination of Andy Taylor and Barney Fife. He is also the taxi driver, justice of the peace and sexton of the church PHILIP SMITH any age; a detective who spends most of the show suffering from amnesia. KATE BIXLEY 35+ Overflowing with wit and sarcasm, she is secretary to the mystery writer. She is a bachelorette on the prowl. CRANE HAMMOND 35+ Famous mystery writer; clever, charming, likable; she may be the only one with any sense. RICHARD HAMMOND 35+ Crane’s husband; a would be novelist who currently writes an advice column under the pen name of Dorothy Duckworth. He is only in the last act. Explore Shakespeare's verse with Geoff Bullen, former head of training at R.A.D.A, one of the world's great theatre schools. This is an ideal workshop for both professional theatre artists who want to deepen their exploration of verse as well as students who might be challenged by heightened language. Geoff Bullen works as an Associate Director at Britain's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art specializing in teaching Shakespeare. As translator and adaptor - notably of the work of Feydeau and Steinbeck - and as the author of numerous plays on social issues for schools, his work has been performed around the world; he is a guest lecturer at Case Western Reserve University and Course Director of the New York University/RADA Shakespeare in Performance Program. He has worked extensively in the United Kingdom in the commercial, subsidized and community theatre. Recent productions include: Cavalleria Rusticana and Tosca, Magdala Opera; Beside Picasso and Bacon, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; Red Sun, National Tour; Into the Woods, Assassins, and Little Women - The Musical, RADA; and The Tempest, Stadsschouwburg. In 2008 his production of Chaplin took the grand prix at the 5th UNESCO International Festival in Minsk. He was the 24th director of The Mousetrap, the world's longest-running play in London's West End.

none too fragile’s ‘The Whale’ wallows in well-chartered waters Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics In Samuel D. Hunter’s “The Whale” – initially found breaching off-Broadway in 2013 – Charlie’s death scene clocks in at 1-hour and 50-minutes. For the entirety of this slow-moving but quietly affecting drama, the morbidly self-destructive, always-apologetic 600 pound Charlie sits on or precariously orbits around his couch in a small northern Idaho apartment awaiting his final, thin exhale. Intermittently orbiting around Charlie, when he is not offering online tutoring on expository writing, are a handful of well-intended characters who are remarkably ill-equipped to follow through with their objectives. Come to none too fragile to see an engaging but unexceptional work by MacArthur Foundation genius grant winner Samuel D. Hunter. Stay to marvel at the eloquent performances it is provided. For the sixth year, convergence-continuum presents the NEOMFA Playwrights Festival. This year there are two world-premiere plays by local graduate-student playwrights. These plays are part of a three-year intensive program of study under playwright and Cleveland State University professor Mike Geither, and are co-produced by convergence -continuum and the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts (NEOMFA) in Creative Writing consortium. FEB 9, 10, 11: THE DARKNESS BY KATIE WALLACE, RENEE SCHILLING AND ROB DANIELS. Thu-Sat at 8 pm. The Darkness is a darkly comic fable following the travails of Duncan as he journeys through a circus, suburbia and a sinister office building. Duncan is a believer in The Light, an organization which may or may not be a cult. As he attempts to convert human cannonballs and cookie-baking housewives alike, he discovers the true light may rest in the restorative power of Phil Collins' songs, pink lemonade and whoopee cushions - but not necessarily in that order. FEB 16, 17 18: SEXUAL POLITICS BY JC CIFRANIC. Thu-Sat at 8 pm. In Sexual Politics, the Deputy Mayor of Vienna is trying to clean-up the morals of the city. When Isabella's gay brother is arrested, she has to rely on unlikely friends to keep him out of jail in this topical, modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure. Emerging writers may study in four genres – creative non-fiction, fiction, playwriting, and poetry – and take advantage of the resources offered on all four campuses. Since its inception in 2005, the NEOMFA has offered small-group workshops, open readings, summer travel fellowships, and high-profile visiting writers, in addition to career-preparing internships, competitive graduate funding, and a diverse Midwestern landscape that tempts the creative eye. The playwriting program is centered at Cleveland State University and includes providing MFA playwrights the opportunity to work with, and to have their works given full productions by, a professional theatre c ompany during the NEOMFA Playwrights Festival.
