Directed by Dale Heinen, the production runs January 13 through 28 at Creative Space at Waterloo Arts. Tackling German shepherds, boyfriends, and other attachments, playwright/performer Amy Schwabauer takes the audience through her journey from lonely child to young partier to (relatively) well-adjusted adult. This comedic one-woman show is part pain journal and part offbeat rumination on aquatic life. It is heartbreaking, but always bracingly honest and funny. “This is NOT About My Dead Dog” was developed in Playwrights Local’s inaugural Play Lab new-work incubator in 2016, with initial dramaturgy by Arwen Mitchell and production dramaturgy by Dale Heinen. “We’re looking to spotlight new local talent, and Amy Schwabauer fits the bill on multiple fronts,” says David Todd, Artistic Director of Playwrights Local. “This play is a brave look at her own life, one that digs deep and challenges Amy as a writer and performer. In addition to all of her comic charms, Amy has found another gear for being moving and profound with this show. We’re happy to produce such an engaging new dramatist.” Amy Schwabauer’s writing credits include “Fluff Pup” (2015 Cleveland Playwrights Festival), “The Bird Behind the Curtain” (Cleveland State University), and “The Accounts of the Warren County Fair as Observed by a Young Astronaut.” As a performer, she has recently appeared in Positive Reinforcements (Theater Ninjas), Snake Oil (Ohio City Theatre Project), and Left in Ink (Cleveland Public Theatre). East Cleveland Theater (ECT) is hosting auditions for “Lend Me a Tenor”, written by Ken Ludwig. We are seeking 4 men and 4 women for this show. *Synopsis:* When a world class tenor comes to Cleveland, lives, loves, and relationships are turned upside down, resulting in a comedy farce that no one should miss. *The Roles:* *Henry Saunders*: The Cleveland Grand Opera's general manager. Father to Maggie. A blowhard who often loses his temper at the slightest mishap. *Max*: Saunders' long-suffering assistant, who is forced to take Tito's place in the role of Othello. *Maggie Saunders*: Saunders' daughter, and Max's girlfriend. She has a great admiration for Tito. *Tito Merelli*: The world's most renowned opera tenor, and notorious ladies man. *Maria*: Tito's long-suffering wife, with an "Italian temper". Leaves Tito early in the play, but ultimately returns to him. Loves Tito, despite his philandering. *Diana*: The opera's ingenue soprano, who is "flinging her way" to the top. A seductive woman (and she knows it). *Julia*: Chairwoman of the Cleveland Opera Guild, who considers herself a "grande dame." She wears a silver dress which, Saunders says, makes her look "like the Chrysler Building." *The Bellhop*: A comic relief character who has an ongoing feud with Saunders. An obnoxious opera fan, the Bellhop keeps showing up at the hotel suite at the wrong moment, trying to get an autograph and a photo of Tito Merelli. Saunders ends up chasing the Bellhop around the hotel suite, and trying to strangle him. *Director: Megan Thompson* Megan Thompson is Executive Director of Great Lakes Light Opera, and has directed and performed in numerous shows. *Audition Dates:* Saturday, January 21, 2016, from 11am to 1pm. "*Children of Eden* was a turning point for me. As an artist, as a person… There's something about this piece and the family it creates that is very special. I came to the show a total novice in the theater, and I left with a confidence and a love for this art form that I never could have imagined. I was thrilled to hear Fred and Bebe are putting the show on again. They were the director and choreographer of the production that meant so much to me a little more than six years ago. My advice is, if you're on the fence, do it. This is the kind of show to do. The kind of show that KIDS are LUCKY to get to do.
