AUDITIONS: August Wilson's Radio Golf

East Cleveland Theater is hosting auditions for August Wilson's Radio Golf. Part of Wilson's, The Century Cycle, it is the last play in his 10-play series. Radio Golf takes place in Pittsburgh, PA, in the 1990s. We are looking for 5 African-American actors, 4 male and 1 female. *Synopsis:* What price would you pay in order to stay true to yourself and beliefs? This is the dilemma we confront in Radio Golf. Surrounded by a backdrop of politics, ambitions, traditions and friendships, all involved must answer this question for themselves. *The Roles:* *Harmond Wilks*: African American (male, mid 30’s – to late 40’s) A real-estate developer, Ivy League-educated, well-spoken and ambitious. He inherited the business from his father but he has big dreams of a very prominent future in politics as well. While in the midst of a big housing development project potentially worth millions, he is running to be the first African-American Mayor of Pittsburgh. Harmond is honest to a fault and committed to his beliefs. *Mame Wilks:* African American (female, mid 30’s – to late 40’s) Harmond’s wife of many years, she is a well-educated, successful and ambitious public relations executive. Though she is rising within her own career, Mame wants Harmond to rise with her, so she is helping him with his mayoral run. Mame is smart and manipulative but caring. She will go to bat for what she believes in but there are limits, even for her. *Roosevelt Hicks: *African American (male, late 30’s – 40’s) Recently promoted to a vice-presidential position at Mellon Bank, Roosevelt is clever and a bit of a hustler. His education is average but he has worked hard to get what he has. He is determined to overcome what he perceives as the limitations placed on him by society and is willing to risk almost anything to do it. A long-time friend of Harmond, he is involved in the real-estate deal and mayoral campaign. *Sterling Johnson:* African American (male, mid to late 40’s) A neighborhood handyman/contractor, poorly educated and an old time friend of Harmond. Life has not been kind to Sterling so he is very rough around the edges but deceptively street smart. He robbed a bank many years ago and paid the price. Sterling has learned to be a hustler through experience but wants what everyone wants, a good life. *Elder Joseph Barlow:* African American (male, late 60’s – 70’s) He seems like the nicest man you could ever meet but Elder Joseph hides a dark past. He presents an addled and feeble demeanor with a wink and a smile but he has a criminal record that stretches back many, many years. He is very clever and sly in the way he hooks his victims. That is how he has gotten through life. Harmond is his latest. *Director: Jim Weaver, SDC* *Audition Dates:* Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:30pm Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 11:00 to 3:00pm *Show Dates:* Shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 11 shows total Opening: Friday, February 03, 2017 Closing: Sunday, February 26, 2017 Friday and Saturday shows start at 8pm Sunday shows start at 3pm EXCEPTION: There be no show on Sunday, February 05, 2017 … Super Bowl Sunday. *Rehearsals:* This will be a split rehearsal schedule, meaning that we will have 2 weeks of rehearsals in December, 2016 (before Christmas), and then pick up with rehearsals starting the week of January 08, 2017. Exact dates for both the December and January time frames have not been determined. If you are concerned, please show up at auditions and tell us your limitations. The Lakeland Community College Media Department will begin a Time Warner broadcast and webcast for a new news program this fall. This outside-the-box newscast is in need of Anchors and field reporters. Though we have cast several field talent positions and an anchor, we are in need of a qualified 2nd anchor and a few field-reporter positions. Candidates should present as between 19 and 25 years of age with an energetic on-screen persona. This program will be world-class from set to presentation and though a non-paid position will give successful, candidates valuable exposer, tremendous experience working with a news team and an invaluable portfolio contribution. This cabaret-style show allows the audience to enjoy coffee and fancy desserts tableside during the delightful performance. She has been featured with* PAND*, *Heights Chamber Orchestra, Choral Arts* *Cleveland* and in Beethoven’s *Choral Fantasy *at* Severance Hall *with the* Suburban Symphony. *This will be Diane’s 4th appearance with Arts in the Cathedral. Most recently she was our soprano soloist for *Mozart’s Coronation Mass* two years ago. *Violinist* *Ariel Clayton Karas* gives more than 120 performances annually throughout northeast Ohio and currently serves as director of *Classical Revolution Cleveland*, as well as founder and director of her chamber ensemble, *OPUS 216*. Ms. Clayton Karas holds a Master’s degree and Suzuki certification from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and is a long-time Musician-In-Residence at the Cleveland Clinic. *Lisa Bell Benedetto**, Grammy-nominated pianist/recording artist*, began her piano lessons at C.I.M. at the young age of five, graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in music composition. Remaining on the West coast for fifteen years, she released three CDs. Her first CD, “*Soulscapes*”, aired on over 700 radio stations nation- wide, earning her the Grammy nomination. The motion picture, “*The Stonecutter*”, featured her film score and debuted at the 1998 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Motive For Murder is still looking for actors to fill out their talent pool for the upcoming murder mystery season and beyond. This is less community theater and more occasional part-time work. We are currently casting the following show dates: OCTOBER 22 in LOUDONVILLE TALBOT: male; age 35-45; a tortured soul; morose and brooding but with a tendency for violent outbursts; think Chaney Jr. YGOR: male; unspecified age range; a hunchback; prefer a petite actor under 5' 6". DECEMBER 17 in LOUDONVILLE DISGRUNTLED FEMALE EMPLOYEE; 20's -early 30's; somewhat sexy tomboy and a bit of a vixen STORYTELLER: non-gender specific; no specific age; should like chocolate and/or candy and be good with treating adults like children; has a bit of a 1940's flair; should know how to hold book. FEMALE AGENT: no specific age; typical Hollywood agent Ideal candidates should have theater experience, reliable transportation, and the ability to ad-lib comfortably in character. Try your "hand" at puppeteering

Looking for puppeteer or two - Experience helpful but will train enthusiastic learner. The show is being performed at Mapleside Farms on weekends beginning Sept 24 & 25 and every weekend through October and one Friday, Oct. 14. We are in rehearsals right now, which are mostly in the late afternoon/early evenings. The puppets are hand puppets, no marionettes or full body operated. If you've never been a puppeteer that's okay. Just have a positive attitude and join us at rehearsals and help us get this show on off the ground. The show is live actors and six puppets. Some of the actors will be puppeteering, we just need a couple more. The shows are only 15 min long and will run 4 or 5 times per day. So a pretty easy gig. There is a stipend for your participation. If you have absolutely NO experience and want to participate as a learning experience, we can make that happen too. As you help us, we'll help you. I've learned a lot in my 30 years in the entertainment industry and if it weren't for people who were willing to let me work and learn, I wouldn't have the knowledge and experience I have now.
