*The Department of Dance at CWRU Presents MaDaCol– 40**th** Anniversary Celebration, Fall 2024* The Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to announce this fall’s production of MaDaCol (Mather Dance Collective). Performances are on November 21-23 at 7:30 pm. MaDaCol, one of the university’s oldest undergraduate student organizations, offers an important creative outlet for CWRU graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff, and greater Cleveland community members. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the performance this year will feature dance works choreographed in the past – one from each decade. They are *Scandals* by Janet Meskin, *Flap* by Ken Gasch, *Victory of the Feet* by Karina Browne and *Inevitable* by Yizhen Hu. *Scandals (1984)* First created by Janet Meskin, *Scandals* brings a lively, nostalgic atmosphere to the stage with its playful exploration of relationships, humor, and dance. *Scandals* is set to three iconic song, Doin' The New Low-Down by Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Moanin' Low by Libby Holman, and Carmen Miranda's South American Way. Restagd by graduate student Noah Hardy, 10 dancers will explore the ideas behind types of relationships, and the fun at the root of each interaction. *Flap (2001)* Originally choreographed by Ken Gasch and now restaged by graduate student Megan Gregory, *Flap* takes the audience on an unpredictable journey between composure and chaos. Set to the eclectic and whimsical music of Danny Elfman, this 11-minute modern dance work unfolds in three parts, each offering a glimpse into a world teetering on the edge of danger. With costumes designed by the original MaDaCol dancers, *Flap* shows a glimpse of a different kind of danger - restrained and sophisticated. *Victory of the Feet (2013)* *Victory of the Feet*, originally choreographed by Karina Browne in 2012, is a lighthearted dance battle set to the energetic renditions of Queen's hits by the Vitamin String Quartet. With We Will Rock You, Another One Bites the Dust, and We Are the Champions driving the action, this playful work transports the audience from the stage to a high-stakes dodgeball match between jocks and underdogs. Restaged by graduate student Maizy Windham, *Victory of the Feet* offers an amusing and triumphant narrative in an unforgettable showdown. *Inevitable (2018)* *Inevitable*, by 2019 MFA graduate Yizhen Hu, is set to the haunting and ethereal music of Meredith Monk and Katie Geissinger. This piece *Inevitable* explores the emotional experiences of death and loss. Hu investigates the struggles of grief and the frustrations of helplessness, along with the realization of the unavoidable mortality of human life. Restaged by graduate student Katherine Averill, *Inevitable* invites the audience to confront the inescapable truths of life and death with an intimate, emotional depth. *Tickets and Location * All performances take place at Mather Dance Center located at 11040 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve University campus. University School (an all-boys school in Hunting Valley) is holding auditions for high school girls for our Winter Play – “The Lost Boy” by Ronald Gabriel Paolillo. Auditions Tuesday, November 19th from 4:00-5:30 (Read from Script) Wednesday, November 20th from 4:00-5:30 (Read from Script) Thursday, November 21st from 4:00-5:30 (Read from Script) Note: You only need to attend one of the days (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday). Barrie is dissatisfied with his work and his life. He returns to his hometown in Scotland to visit his mother, who still blames him for the long-ago death of his older brother in a skating pond. Haunted by a tragic accident and his mother's harsh words, James slowly begins to confront his family's past with the help of an unexpected friendship and his own gift for storytelling. This fictionalized account of the birth of Peter Pan will warm the hearts of audiences everywhere who remember the magic and mystery of The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. AVAILABLE CHARACTERS MARGARET OGILVY BARRIE – Jame’s mother, a proud woman with high hopes and even higher expectations. Her tough exterior shields the burden of the responsibilities and heartache that she has endured alone. MAUREEN O’ROURKE and others: The wife of James’ childhood bully who connects with James on his return to Scotland. They strike up an unexpected friendship as James develops his magical story. This actress may also double as characters in Neverland. MARY ANSELL BARRIE and others: James’ wife, an actress in London seeking her big break. She can be vain, jealous, inventive, and charming – an inspiration for Tinker Bell. This actress may also double as characters in Neverland. Auditions for Stow Players Production of Pride and Prejudice by Kate Hamill based on the novel by Jane Austen will be held on Saturday December 14 from 1PM to 6PM and Sunday December 15 from 5:30PM to 8:30PM. Davis and stage managed by Aaron Lord. We are seeking a diverse cast of talented and dedicated actors ages 18 and up. However, when Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all. Somebody’s Children Written by Jose Casas Directed by Ricky Quintana Performances: March 5, 6, 7 2025 at 7:30pm Rehearsals start on: January 13th, 2025 (Possible Pre-Rehearsal Meeting December 9th). Rehearsals will be Monday – Thursday evenings, weekend afternoons depending on cast availability somebody's children introduces us to five teenagers who are part of a subculture that isn't shown or explored in the media in any depth. These kids are homeless, and they, along with their families, stay in a rundown motel known as the El Dorado, which is one of many such motels in horrific condition in their area of the city. All the residents deal with issues such as gang violence, drugs and prostitution. Most of the city authorities do little to rectify the situation. The result is that these families live in a world where every day is a challenge and the idea of home is temporary at best. We share a time in the lives of these five teenagers as they tell us their stories through a series of vignettes. They paint a picture of their lives and the cruel realities in which they struggle to survive—all the while doing so in the shadow of Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Yet, through it all, this group of friends takes the time to share their dreams with us, reminding us that hope can exist in even the harshest conditions. CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: Justin – (Male, 20s-30s) A socially awkward young man who also happens to be low handicap golfer. In real life, his nervousness and uncertainties often overtake his actions. Louise – (Female, 20s-30s) A perfect match for Justin in that she, too, possesses some naive, awkward social graces. She is sexy and sweet and very proud of her accomplishments, but is also given to extreme reactions to set backs. She cries a lot. Bingham – (Male, 30s-50s) The owner of the Quail Valley Country Club. He has been frustrated by years of a mismatched marriage and is intimidated by his wife while mooning over his former love interest, Pamela. Pamela – (Female, 30s-50s) The somewhat cynical divorcee who has left Dickie (Director of the Crouching Squirrel) behind. She is the helper, the fixer upper of things gone bad, the object of Bingham’s devotion. Dickie – (Male, 30s-50s) The insufferable bore who is the Director of the Crouching Squirrel. He dresses loudly and tastelessly meaning that his appearance matches his personality. Muriel – (Female, 30s-50s) The overbearing wife of Bingham. When she is in the room she sucks all of the oxygen out of the space. *All roles in this production are on a volunteer basic, there is currently no compensation available for the actors involved in this production* Any age, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, body type, abilities, or other identities are encouraged to audition and will be considered equally in character casting, unless directly specified by the playwright as integral to their story.
