Wandering Aesthetics, The Akronist and Firestone Park Branch Library are proud to announce the next Full Circle Storytelling: An Open Mic for Community Storytellers event. Full Circle Storytelling is a free event and open to the public. This Full Circle Storytelling event will be held on Tuesday, October. 13th from 6 pm – 7:30 pm at Firestone Park Branch Library, located at 1486 Aster Ave. • Akron, OH. Registration is encouraged (especially for storytellers), but not required. About the Event: Open to the public, Full Circle Storytelling events revolve around a theme and the idea: everyone has a story. Sign up to tell a true story related to the evening’s theme or just come to enjoy the show! (No experience necessary.) Co-hosted by ASCPL, Wandering Aesthetics and the Akronist, this intimate evening of storytelling will conjure the spirit of community. Since this event is open to the whole community, language and content of stories should be no stronger than PG-13. (Don’t tell us anything your Mama wouldn’t want to hear.) Stories can range anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes in length. We are creating a video and audio archive of stories from residents of the Greater Akron area. This archive may be used by students, journalists, researchers, artists, etc. for purposes beyond Full Circle Storytelling events. Participants at our live events are not required to have their stories recorded for our archive. Sometimes the magic is only for those in the room. John has directed hundreds of performances nationally and is a Professor in the Theater Department at Oberlin College in Ohio. His approach brings the actors to their peak performances for rave reviews. John is probably best known for his comedy sword-fighting show "Hack and Slash." The show has been seen internationally for two decades and over four thousand performances. After the events of September 11, 2001, John spent a large portion of every year entertaining the armed forces on six USO tours. These tours traveled to sixteen countries including the most remote regions of Afghanistan and Iraq. In March of 2006, while in Fallujah, Iraq, Hack and Slash performed their one hundredth show for the USO.As an instructor for the International Order of the Sword and Pen (I.O.S.P.), John is considered a top stage combat professional around the globe. He works regularly with the top instructors and the choreographers from both stage and film, creating friendships and a professional network. This is not your typical volunteer experience. You will work in teams on a scavenger hunt to get people to write haiku with you. Yes. Haiku, the ancient Japanese form of verse with a line of five syllables, a line of seven syllables and a final line of five syllables. The GLLO Singers of the Great Lakes Light Opera are all professional singers with vocal performance degrees from prestigious universities, including the Cleveland Institute of Music.
