Lorain County Community College Theatre Department announces Auditions for "The Diviners" by Jim Leonard Jr. Directed by Dave Cotton Audition Dates: Sunday, Sept. 13, 2 - 5 pm Monday. Sept. 14, 7 - 10 p.m. LCCC¹s Cirigliano Studio Theater Performance Dates: November 19-21, 2015 According to the Samuel French catalogue, ³this marvelously theatrical play is the story of a disturbed young man and his friendship with a disenchanted preacher in southern Indiana in the early 1930s. When the boy was young he almost drowned. This trauma and the loss of his mother in the same accident has left him deathly afraid of water. The preacher, set on breaking away from a long line of Kentucky family preachers, is determined not to do what he does best. He works as a mechanic for the boy's father. The town doesn't have a preacher and the women try to persuade him to preach while he tries to persuade the child to wash. When the preacher finally gets the boy in the river and is washing him, the townspeople mistake the scene for a baptism. They descend on the event and, in the confusion, the boy drowns.² Monologues are welcome, but the focus of the auditions will be on cold readings of scenes from the script. Please plan on staying for the entire audition session. Ideally, the actor playing this role will be small of stature. JENNIE MAE LAYMAN his sister. Jennie Mae is 16 years old. She has been shouldering the burden of keeping the house since the death of her mother. FERRIS LAYMAN their father, a mechanic. Late 40¹s - early 50¹s. He is good hearted, opinionated and not much of a disciplinarian. C.C. SHOWERS a backsliding preacher. C.C. is 30. For 12 years he has been a hellfire and damnation preacher in Kentucky. He discovered that ³thinking and preaching don¹t mix² so he left that life and has been walking and thinking for three months searching for a new life. NORMA HENSHAW owner of the Hoosier Dry-Goods, a true believer 40¹s - 60¹s. She is a very determined woman. She knows what¹s right and she will do everything in her power to see that it happens. DARLENE HENSHAW her niece. 17-18 She is anxious to get out and live life in spite of her aunt¹s oppressive ways. GOLDIE SHORT owner of the Dine-Away-Café. 40¹s - 60¹s. She is more interested in business than religion, but she is as devout as she can be. BASIL BENNETT a farmer, the local doctor of sorts. 50¹s - 60¹s. He is full of solid, country wisdom. He cannot tolerate new-fangled machines like tractors and automobiles. LUELLA BENNET his wife, a doubter. 40¹s - 60¹s. She is an eternal skeptic, but follows the crowd. MELVIN WILDER a farmhand. 21 - 22 A young man who ³knows it all². After all, he has been through the Army¹s basic training - twice! DEWEY MAPLES a young farmhand. 17 - 18 Young , impressionable. Film and photography showcase

Eppfilms along with Artistic By Design will be hosting a photography and film showcase on September 12, 2015 from 12pm to 6pm. IT IS FREE TO ATTEND, come to see local works of art in film and photography. The films will be shown in the Eppfilms Indie Theater and the Photography portraits will be shown in the Artistic By Design Center, Inc. This is a free event for all to come to the film showings and to photography showcase. Children are welcome (the nature of the films and photos are family oriented). The Olde Towne Hall Theatre is seeking a Stage Manager and Lighting/sound Operator for our production of "Wait Until Dark". Rehearsals start at the end of the month and the show opens on Oct. 9. Previous experience in any aspect of stage management, lights and sound, and/or theatre production is a plus, but not required. Partial rehearsal attendance is acceptable until 9/28 and is required after that. Performance dates are required. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the “comedic romp” into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit, and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter. Mighty Goliath is unique in that we rehearse once a week on Friday night until tech week. Rehearsals begin October 30th. Westlake, Ohio 44145 Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical is the first "TV Special" taped by the sisters in their convent basement studio for Cable Access. It stars the nuns you love plus Father Virgil and some of Mt. Saint Helen's most talented students. This show is filled with "Nunsense" humor, some of your favorite carols, a "Secret Santa," and an uproarious take on the Nutcracker Ballet. It's the perfect way to insure your holiday season is merry and bright! Director/Choreographer Kim Mihalik & Music Director Jayne Bartish-Kacik are looking for the following performers: Reverend Mother - 40's and up - Mezzo-Soprano (bordering on Alto) The Mother Superior of the Little Sisters of Hoboken. She tries to be strict and keep order, but things often get out of her control. She grew up in a circus family and her "showbiz" background and sense of humor always shines through her attempt at creating a tough exterior. Sister Mary Hubert - 30's and up - Mezzo-Soprano (Gospel style vocals) Second in command to Mother Superior. She wanted to be a nun all her life and at times finds it difficult to deal with problems she believes are created by Mother Superior's ineptness. Very practical. She and Mother Superior have a healthy and humorous rivalry. Sister Robert Anne - 20's and up - Mezzo-Soprano (Belter) Streetwise nun from Brooklyn, NY. She is one tough cookie, but has a heart and soul of gold. The students love her because she speaks their language. She feels she has real theatrical potential and is constantly frustrated by Reverend Mother's refusal to let her star in the show. Sister Amnesia - 20's and up - Mezzo-Soprano (Country style vocals) Was hit on the head with a crucifix and for a long period didn't remember who she was. Now, everyone knows she is Sister Mary Paul, a country singer who jump-started her recording career as the first un to appear at the Grand Ole Opry. Even though she has her memory back, she always seems to be a "little vacant" but innocently endearing. Sister Mary Leo - 20's and up - Any Vocal Part or Non-Singing A former novice nun, her dream is to be the first nun ballerina. Note: Sister Mary Leo only appears briefly at the beginning and end of the show and will double as stage crew. Father Virgil - 30's and up - Tenor/high-Baritone Grew up in the Mississippi Delta where he and his sister were part of the Trott Family Singers. He now has his own radio show and the sisters invited him to participate in the Christmas program because they knew he could give them pointers on presenting a good show. Students - ages 8-18 Louise | Maria | Billy | John Students of Mount Saint Helen's Catholic School who are chosen by their teachers to help out the Sisters with the Christmas Program. An extra evening for auditions will be held at Clague Playhouse on Monday August 24th starting at 7PM; no appointments will be necessary. Auditions for the world premiere of "We Rise," written by Todd Walburn, will be held August 24th-25th from 7-9PM at the Second April Galerie Kathleen Howland Theatre, 324 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton , 330.451.0924. The play explores the second decade of the AIDS crisis and the actions of the activist group ACT UP. "We Rise" takes a closer, intimate look at the 1992 White House demonstration as seen through the eyes of individuals who took part in the landmark event. Director Margene Rannigan seeks three male actors in their early 40's, 40-50 , and 50-60 years old. One role is available for a female actor age 50-60. Please bring resume. Actors will be asked to read both dialogue and monologues from the script. Rehearsals will begin Sept 1. The play runs two weekends in mid-October at the Kathleen Howland Theatre.
