"Hello, Dolly!" opens at Rabbit Run Theater

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Hello, Dolly! opens this Friday at Rabbit Run Theater Winner of 10 Tony awards Hello Dolly is one of the most endearing musicals of all times and holds a special place in the hearts of theater lovers. With music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, Hello, Dolly! is based on the play The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder. The year is 1890, and widowed matchmaker Dolly Levi is hired to find the perfect match for a grumpy, wealthy Yonkers widower, and find the perfect match, she does. The show features such all-time favorite melodies as It Only Takes a Moment, Ribbons Down My Back and, Hello, Dolly! Hello, Dolly! is directed by Brendan Sandham who has directed and performed in numerous productions at Rabbit Run, Fine Arts Association, Geauga Lyric Theater Guild and The Beck Center. "Hello Dolly is a true musical theater classic," says Sandham. "It's laugh-out-loud funny, but also has moments of poignancy and sweetness that elevate the show into something truly unique and special. There is a reason this show has stood the test of time." "One of the most famous songs in the show, 'It Only Takes a Moment', is an accurate description of the show itself. There are so many little moments that make you laugh, fill your heart and make you want to sing along. As a director, I love finding those moments and bringing them out in the most impactful way." "The cast has worked very hard to bring their characters to life in fun and unique ways; it's delightful working with them. I keep telling them sarcastically, 'It's a shame none of you get along', because that couldn't be further from the truth. They are a kind and supportive bunch, and that's something that is reflected in their performances." Playing the role of Dolly is Ingrid Balstad. Balstad has performed in numerous shows at Rabbit Run, most recently as Clairee in Steel Magnolias and the Mother Abess in The Sound of Music. Greg Gnau is performing as Dolly's love interest, Horace Vandergelder. Also performing are Ian Jones as Cornelius, Tyler Collins as Barnaby, Stephanie Harden as Mrs. Malloy and Paige Heidrich as Minnie. Hello, Dolly! opens Friday, June 19 and runs through Friday, July 10. WANTED: SINGERS & MUSICIANS NEEDED FOR LOCAL OPERA Great Lakes Light Opera is in need of singers and concert musicians for a performance of Manuel de Falla's opera La Vida Breve on August 2nd in Cleveland. This is a great volunteer opportunity for young singers and musicians to build up their resume, and could lead to further possibilities with GLLO and other associated performance groups. Singers should have experience singing opera or in Spanish. Musicians should have some concert performance experience. We are currently in need of the following vocalists and instruments: Vocalist Concert Instruments Tenors Violin Oboe Baritones Viola Bassoon Cataor Flamenco (Baritone) Cello Clarinet Double Bass Flute Piano Percussion Classical Guitar (flamenco preferably) Musician rehearsals will be July 18 and 19, with a sitzprobe on July 20th with the full cast of singers. PATSY CLINE* *Extends Run at Actors’ Summit* Actors’ Summit, Akron’s professional theater, announces that the four week run of *ALWAYS . . . PATSY CLINE,* based on a true story and written by Ted Swindley, has been extended by two weeks. The show opened Friday night, May 29. *ALWAYS . . . PATSY CLINE* is now scheduled to perform through Sunday, July 5. The added performances will be given Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 P.M. and Sundays at 2 PM, and take place at Greystone Hall, in downtown Akron. The show is appropriate families. “With sold out and nearly sold out performances, with the raves of both critics and audience members, we just didn’t want to let ‘Patsy’ go,” said MaryJo Alexander, director of the production and Artistic Co-Director of Actors’ Summit. *The Play* Over a pot of strong coffee, two women chat about their common concerns. When one of them, Patsy Cline finally left for Dallas, the two women had exchanged addresses and telephone numbers. Seger never expected to hear from Cline again, but soon after she left, Seger received the first of many letters and phone calls from Cline. The play focuses on the fateful evening at Houston's Esquire Ballroom when Seger hears of Cline's death in a plane crash. Seger supplies a narrative while Cline sings the songs that made her famous -- *Anytime, Walkin' After Midnight, She's Got * *You, Sweet Dreams, and Crazy*--to name a few. The show combines humor, sadness and reality. LAND OF CLEVE REVIEW: 'A Little Night Music' is a Summer Serenade That Pleases All the Senses at Porthouse Theatre *A Little Night Music's *director and choreographer Sean Morrissey has impressively staged the show as if all the action takes place in a life-sized musical jewelry box, cleverly designed by Ben Needham. The players, props and set pieces spin into place on a central revolve, allowing viewers to become voyeurs into the characters' proper yet passionate lives. Morrissey's controlled pacing also ensures that each line of Sondheim's intensely intricate lyrics is heard, aided by Brian Chismar's sparkling sound design. The women in the piece are as mesmerizing as they are heartbreaking. Terri J. Kent is effervescent as Desiree, possessing both the star quality and emotional *joie de vivre* required for the role. Lenne Snively powerfully portrays the regal Madame Armfeldt, Amy Fritsche is deliciously divine as Charlotte, Shamara Costa makes a lovely and lusty Petra, and Lucy Anders is a sheer delight as the impetuous young Anne. The men also make their mark in the production, especially excelling in comedic characterizations. Fabio Polanco is ideal as the agitated Fredrik, a middle-aged man exhibiting all the symptoms of a turn-of-the-century midlife crisis. He is matched by jaunty Jim Weaver as Count Carl-Magnus, a puffed-up dragoon who demands the fidelity of both his wife and his mistress. Julian Kazenas is hilarious as a repressed ball of teenage hormones and Henrik, and Jared Dixon and Jimmy Ferko add some humorous touches as house servants. Narrating the action are an elegant and evocative quintet of singers, including Ian Benjamin, Allisyn Just, Katey Sheehan, Dane Castle and Lindsay Simon...
