A Fusion of Past and Present This concert is a unique exploration of how modern masters like *Caroline Shaw, Jeff Scott, and Andrew Rindfleisch* pay homage to, and borrow from, musical geniuses of the past. Prepare to be moved by their contemporary takes on classic compositions from legends like *Thomas Tallis, Dietrich Buxtehude, Gregorio Allegri, and Igor Stravinsky*. TWO World Premieres! In our ongoing commitment to expanding the canon, we're excited to present two world premiere commissions: - *“Nǐ de Mìngyùn, Ayanmo Mi” (Your Destiny, My Destiny)* by world famous composer and horn player, Jeff Scott. This mesmerizing piece is inspired by the I Ching and Ifa divination practice, and is written in dialogue with Stravinsky’s *Yule divinations: Four Russian Peasant Songs*, for four french horns and choir. - *Joshua Estok*, a rising star who is a student at Cleveland State University, reimagines the opening lines of Tallis’s *“If Ye Love Me”* to create a meditation on how we love, expressed in speech and song. Music with a Message Our program closes with *To the Hands*, by Pulitzer Prize winning composer *Caroline Shaw*. The work takes as its starting point the cantata *“Ad manus”* (“To the hands”) from *Dietrich Buxtehude*’s *Membra Jesu nostri* (The Limbs of our Jesus). Kent Trumbull Theatre & Modern Methods Brewing Company presents a Sips & Scripts Reading of "Whirligig of Broken Umbrellas" at the Darlene Lounge (145 W. Market Street, Warren OH) on Weds, 2/7 @ 7:30pm. Admission is free and open to all ages (soft drinks also available for those who want them). Three explorers of the unknown - Archie, Celeste, and Zephyr - traverse an endless and cyclical path. As they walk, the three grapple with the forgotten purpose of their journey and the haunting traumas of their individual pasts. Archie, tormented by the loss of his parents to a mysterious cult known only as "The Brotherhood of the Silent Void", wants nothing more than to be lulled to sleep once more by the familiar presence of his parent's silence. Celeste, whose father was bizarrely transformed into a pile of bagels, uses this divine gluten metamorphosis as a means to avoid confronting the even more terrifying truth of her mother's tragic fate. Zephyr, whose entire family has self-immolated, embraces her fiery heritage and finds unapologetic comfort in her strange, predetermined path. "A Whirligig of Broken Umbrellas" is a darkly comedic odyssey through memory, trauma, religion, and the ceaseless search for meaning in a world that eludes understanding. Please join us! *CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE IS HIRING PART-TIME SUBSTITUTE TEACHING ARTISTS* CPT is seeking *part-time Substitute Teaching Artists* to assist in implementing CPT Education programming. Theatre experience is a plus. We are looking to build a strong core of artists who are dedicated to creating work to further racial and economic justice. *------------------------------* *CMHA CLEVELAND ACT NOW* CMHA Cleveland Act Now (CAN) takes place in partnership with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) at community centers for children and families who live in public housing. Under the guidance of CPT Teaching Artists, young artists learn how to create and perform their own plays, dance, poetry, music, and visual art. These multidisciplinary performing arts activities improve academic skills, instill empathy and responsibility, build character, and enhance creative thinking. The students regularly perform at CMHA community centers as well as arts festivals throughout Cleveland. CMHA CAN is offered in four CMHA communities: Lakeview Terrace, Woodhill Homes, Outhwaite Homes, and Riverside Park. *CLEVELAND ACT NOW ACADEMY (CAN ACADEMY)* Cleveland Act Now (CAN) Academy is a free performing arts program for younger teens and youth from Cleveland and surrounding neighborhoods, held on-site at Cleveland Public Theatre. The Juniors program serves youth ages 7-10, and the Seniors program serves youth ages 11-14.
