Cleveland City Dance is excited to host Laura Alonso, daughter of world-famous ballerina Alicia Alonso and renowned teacher and coach, Fernando Alonso, is herself known as a teacher, coach, and an expert at staging the well-known classics. Although born in the United States, Alonso is a resident of Havana where she has an international dance school, Centro Pro Danza, which welcomes 1,500 students, and a professional performing company, The Ballet Classic of Havana. A teacher of world-class experience, Ms. Alonso has taught for professional ballet companies all over the world including Cuban National Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, the Australian Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, the Cleveland/San Jose Ballet, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Tokyo Ballet, the Toronto Ballet, the Alberta Ballet. For seven years, she served as the personal coach for international ballerina Alicia Alonso For seven years she served as the personal coach and teacher for international prima ballerina assoluta, Alicia Alonso. Dance Theatre of Harlem artistic director, former prima ballerina and former editor of Pointe magazine, Virginia Johnson, calls her an “international master teacher extraordinaire.” Laura Alonso will bring her teaching excellence to Cleveland City Dance from October 13, 2023. *Red Barn Youth Theater Auditions * for the Holiday shows: *Yours Truly, Jack Frost* by Tim Kelly Directed by Dr. Greg Dziama *AND* *What Could Go Wrong the Night Before Christmas?* by Kim Kao Hines Directed by Lynna Metrisin *Audition Dates: *Thursday, Oct. 5 from 4-5:30PM and Saturday, Oct. 7 from 2-3:30PM. *Show Dates: *December 15-17, 2023 on Friday and Saturday at 7PM, Sunday at 2PM. *Yours Truly, Jack Frost * has 11 roles available for those ages 7 to 10. *Story: * Jack Frost decorates windowpanes during the Christmas season and runs things in an old-fashioned way. Enter Evilina of the Muggleworth Advertising Agency. Evilina attempts to force Jack into signing over his frost formula. When her original plot fails, Evilina steals the formula. However, only Jack knows about the necessary "secret ingredient." Rehearsals will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, October 16 through December 14 from 4-5:30PM. *What Could Go Wrong the Night Before Christmas? *has 11 roles available for those ages 10 to 14. Story: A host attempts to do a lovely reading of “The Night Before Christmas” but is stymied by every imaginable interruption. Between the children in the wrong costumes, card playing mice and a thin Santa, our poor host is about to have a meltdown! In the end, our host finishes the poem, Santa hurries off to make the rest of his deliveries, and the audience is energized with the fun of the Christmas season. Rehearsals will be on Tuesday and Thursday, October 16 through December 14 from 5-6:30PM. Open auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. No appointment is necessary. Beck Center for the Arts’ Youth Theater is accepting resumes for Stage Managers and Costume Designers for its 2023 production of Going Medieval: A Ye Olde Comedie. This is a paid position. (Flat fee per production). *Please note these two positions are separate contracts. We are looking for a stage manager, and a costumer, not someone to do both roles. The production is written and directed by Rachel Spence, and will perform in the Studio Theater at Beck Center for the Arts from December 8-17. Age range of student actors will encompass from 6–12. City Ballet of Cleveland is delighted to offer the magical Sugarplum Fairy Tea on Sunday, November 12th, from 2:00–4:00 pm. Now in its 9th year, the annual benefit supports the upcoming Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker performances. However, she enters to find only Branwell’s two spinster sisters, a maid (or is it two maids?) and a lovesick, philosophy-spouting mastiff. Stage Manager for The Clean House Rehearsals: Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 6p - 8p October and November Tech: November 27 - 30 Shows: December 1, 7p December 2, 7p December 3, 2p Genesis Stage Manager’s overall purpose is to work directly with the director, cast and production staff to move a show from inception to closing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Manage the backstage and onstage area during performances. 2. Call actors for rehearsals and performances 3. Maintain props, furniture and set during the run. 4. Coordinate set and props between scene changes. 5. Calling cues and possibly actors' entrances during performance 6. Mark out the dimensions of the set on the floor of the rehearsal hall 7. Make sure rehearsal props and furnishings are available for the actors. 8. Attend all rehearsals. 9. Manage furniture and props. 10. Arrange costume and wig fittings. 11.
