The Sound of Music - Parma City School District

The Parma Schools Foundation presents the musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC on Friday July 28 at 7pm, Saturday July 29 at 7 pm and Sunday July 30 at 2 pm. All performances will take place in the Valley Forge High School auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. The box office will open an hour and fifteen minutes before curtain. The show is directed by Mrs. Katie Fox and the thirty-piece orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Randolph P. Laycock. Seating is on a first come first serve basis. The Parma Schools Foundation is an organization that raises money for the Parma City School District teaching staff to support individual classroom initiatives. The awards can be for the 2023-2024 school year. This is an excellent opportunity to study old-time fiddle with Paul Kirk at The Music Settlement. "*Paul Kirk has been playing bowed string instruments since 1980 and has been teaching them privately in classroom settings and workshop formats since 1988. He studied music theory, composition, music education, music history, and musicology at Cleveland State University. While at CSU, Paul played violas da gamba, krummhorns, and recorders in early music ensembles. He was a founding member of Good Company: A Vocal Ensemble and has founded many of his own bands over the years including A Hundred Thousand Welcomes Celtic Ensemble, Knives and Forks English Country Dance Ensemble, and Down the Road Old-Time String Band. He has composed over 500 folk tunes in a variety of styles.* *Paul has closely studied the music of Appalachia, the history of American old-time fiddling, source fiddlers, as well as the social aspects of the music. Since July 1, 2018, he has been creating and sharing videos each Sunday through his Old-Time Tune of the Week series <https://youtu.be/4c2utaMLn4E> on YouTube. Paul puts a great focus on fiddle bowing patterns and techniques and has devised practical methods for teaching with excellent results. One of his specialties is teaching old-time fiddle to crossover students, especially those coming from a background in classical violin and other musical traditions.* *In 2022, Paul was designated as a master old-time fiddler and received a Traditional Arts grant from the Ohio Arts Council to work with an apprentice of his choice.* *Paul taught viola, choir, music history, and assisted with drama and art for ten consecutive summers at orchestra and fine arts camps for The Music Settlement when it was known as the Cleveland Music School Settlement*." WAT Reel Entertainment presents: “The Hunted”, A Star Wars Fan Film about a Jedi Master and his Apprentice after the aftermath of the Empire’s execution of Order 66. We are anticipating a September shooting time, the shoot should be no more than one to two days. Experienced in the Jedi way, he must do what it takes to keep him and his apprentice alive. - The Apprentice (Any Gender, 20s, Fight Choreography Experience Preferred, but can be trained) - Apprentice to the Jedi Master, arrogant at times to the Jedi way, but ready to jump into a battle on a moment's notice, even to their Jedi Master’s chagrin. Is given an ultimatum by Lord Vader, die or become an Inquisitor under the Empire’s rule. - The Inquisitor (Any Gender, 20s to 50s, Fight Choreography Experience Preferred, but can be trained) - Sent out by Darth Vader to go after the Master and Apprentice, tasked with taking out the remaining Jedi after Order 66 is put in place. - Darth Vader - Experienced Sith Lord, sends the Inquisitor after the Master and Apprentice, gives the Apprentice their ultimatum after he takes them down. - Obi Wan (Voiceover) (Male, 20s to 70s, British accent) - A Voice Over of Obi Wan Kenobi’s final message to the surviving Jedi after Order 66.

CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY/CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE MFA ACTING PROGRAM CASTING LOCAL ACTORS FOR THE TEMPEST Cleveland Play House (CPH) is casting local actors for the CWRU/CPH MFA Acting Program’s 2023 production of The Tempest, directed by Eleanor Holdridge. Both positions are non-union contracts, each with a stipend of $350.00 and a $50.00 travel/parking stipend. Auditions are by video submission only. Rehearsals begin Monday, August 21, and will be held in-person during the day and on weekends, though we will do our best to schedule required rehearsals for these roles around actor work schedules. Rehearsals will take place in CPH’s rehearsal spaces, located on the fifth floors of the Middough building, at 1901 East 13th Street in downtown Cleveland. Performances are 5 shows a week from Wednesday, September 20 – Saturday September 30 Performances will take place in-person at the Helen Theatre, located in the Playhouse Square complex. Characters: ALONSO – (22-30, any gender, any race/ethnicity) FRANCISCO/ADRIAN– (22-30, any gender, any race/ethnicity). This is a combination of the characters Francisco and Adrian into one role, rather than two different characters.
