A Poem for Cleveland

Saturday, June 24th from 2pm-4pm Heights Arts is pleased to celebrate the maginificent work of our most recent exiting Cleveland Heights Poet Laureate. His current project, A Poem for Cleveland showcases a “mosaic” of Cleveland – telling the story of the city through peoples’ individual experiences here. The project is funded by the Academy of American Poets grant, along with collaborative support from the Cleveland Public Library, the Center for the Book and Heights Arts. The “Poem for Cleveland” project is a way to pull together much of Ray’s current work as a teaching artist into one collaborative mission. In some ways, the project is an extension of his 2015 book “Love Song for Cleveland,” featuring photography by Tim Lachina. It also harkens back to his “Collinwood Story Project,” which gave longtime North Collinwood residents a platform to share their stories about the neighborhood. This time around, McNiece gathered a group of teenagers, young adults and older adults from different backgrounds and locations in the city to create poetry together. The book release and celebration event will take place at the main branch of Cleveland Public Library. It will feature performances by poets from the Poem for Cleveland Anthology and the Tongue in Groove Band. Auditions for *August: Osage County* by Tracy Letts, directed by Rose Leininger will be Sunday, June 11 from 5:00PM – 7:30PM and Monday, June 12 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. Auditions will take place at the Broadview Heights Spotlights Theater, located next to the Police Station on the Broadview Center Property, 9543 Broadview Road. This show requires actors of all ages. Character descriptions are available at www.broadview-heights-spotlights.org. All roles available. No Equity contracts available for this production. Those planning to attend should sign up for an audition slot via the Spotlights' website. Auditions will consist of reading selected script passages. Auditioners are welcomed (not required) to bring a prepared monologue of no more than two minutes in length. Callbacks will be scheduled as needed. This production runs from August 18 through September 2, 2023. When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after Dad disappears, their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. Mix in Violet, the drugged-up, scathingly acidic matriarch, and you’ve got a major play that unflinchingly—and uproariously—exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family. June 2023 The purpose of this letter is to recruit directors for Workshop Players’ 2024-2025 season. We have a wonderfully balanced season for 2023-24 and are looking your way to help us achieve that for our 2024-2025 season. We are hoping that you will be interested in submitting an application along with a list of plays you may be interested in directing. We believe strongly that directors have more of an investment when they are given the ability to choose shows that they want to direct. From submissions we receive we will put together a balanced season. *The deadline for applying is August 1, 2023. * *We welcome new comedies as well as the tried and true; compelling dramas, small-scale musicals, Christmas shows, and even children’s shows —- It is our focus to entertain!!!
