Female Cellist and Female Guitarist Needed for Millennial Theatre Project's Production of Lizzie: The Musical The Akron Civic Theatre's Millennial Theatre Project is looking for 2 individuals to function as the guitarist and cellist for their June/July performance of the musical Lizzie: The Musical. Being a strong music reader is a must. This is a paid position. The band will be needed during the following: Rehearsals One Rehearsal the week of June 4th. Tech week June 11th-14th Performances June 16, 17, 23, 24, 29 and July 1st. Rehearsals and performances will take place at the Akron Civic Theatre's new Knight Stage located at 176 S. Five unrestricted $10,000 prizes are awarded to applicants in the disciplines of Music, Visual Arts, Literature, Theatre/Dance, and Design. Applicants must currently or have previously lived or worked in Northeast Ohio. https://clevelandartsprize.submittable.com/submit Cleveland Arts Prize promotes creativity in Northeast Ohio by honoring artists for artistic excellence and recognizes community leaders who help regional arts flourish. The Cleveland Arts Prize (CAP) was established by the Women’s City Club in 1960, and continues today as the nation’s oldest municipal arts award and an ongoing platform for celebrating Northeast Ohio’s exceptional arts community. In its earliest years, the group commissioned the Arts Prize medal, launched a scholarship program and established an endowment that secured the annual awarding of prizes. Discipline Awards Five unrestricted $10,000 prizes are awarded to applicants in the disciplines of Music, Visual Arts, Literature, Theatre/Dance, and Design. To be considered for a Cleveland Arts Prize applications must be completed in full and submitted before the noted deadline, May 1st, 2023. Specific criteria for each discipline can be found here. Past Arts Prize winners are not eligible to win a prize in the same category more than once. Applicants must currently or have previously lived or worked in Northeast Ohio. Only living artists can apply or be nominated for a discipline prize. Special Prizes Special Prize candidates are considered through nomination only. The nominator is responsible for soliciting no more than 5 letters of support in favor of the nominee. The submission of support letters is the responsibility of the nominator. Nominations without support letters will not be considered. The nominator for a special prize candidate may suggest the specific award they feel their candidate is best suited for, but the Cleveland Arts Prize Jury will make the final decision as to which Prize is awarded. Special Prize nominees are not notified of their nomination. Special Prizes are honorary. Read more about them here. Determination of Winners Discipline Prize winners receive an unrestricted prize of $10,000. Special Prize recipients are honorary. Winning applicants are selected by the Cleveland Arts Prize Jury, composed of artists, community leaders, and past winners. Their decision will be final and no further correspondence shall be considered. Discipline applicants are reviewed through a two tier process. Each discipline's respective jury members put forth up to three candidates to be reviewed by what is called The Academy Jury. This is the second and final round of review of the finalists from each discipline. The Special Prize Jury members review all nominees and determine the winners for each of the Special Prizes. Jurors will be announced during the submission period. Arts Prize Discipline and Special Prize Winners will be announced on or around August 1. AUDITIONS North Coast Men's Chorus Disney PRIDE in Concert Sunday, April 2, 2023 6:00 - 6:45 PM Middleburg Heights Community United Church of Christ 7165 Big Creek Pkwy Middleburg Heights, OH 44130 The North Coast Men's Chorus is holding auditions for Disney PRIDE in Concert on Sunday, April 2 at 6:00. If you have always dreamed of performing at Disneyland or being in a Disney production of any kind, this is YOUR CHANCE! Stop in between 6:00 - 6:45 for your personal audition where you will meet with our Artistic Director, Rich Cole, and sing some scales and do a few pitch matching exercises. This will only take a few minutes and then you can meet some of the other members. Our normal rehearsal will begin after voice placements at 7:00 and you should plan on staying until about 9:15. This concert was developed by Boston Gay Men's Chorus and the folks at Disney and will be a multimedia musical celebration of LGBTQ life, love, family, and perseverance! This first-of-its-kind, family friendly show draws inspiration from iconic Disney films like The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and Mary Poppins; modern classics like Coco, Zootopia, and Wreck-It Ralph; and the immersive music of Disney Theme Parks. The multimedia spectacular will feature NCMC performing enchanting new musical arrangements all accompanied by animation from Disney and Pixar films. Using our mission and vision as a guide, personal stories from an array of chorus members will showcase the individual meaning and connections drawn from Disney's timeless and universal music for all people! *As You Like It*, Shakespeare’s tale about nobles (and their sidekicks) wandering semi-lost in the Forest of Arden, seems a proper salute to spring. Directed by Charles Fee, this Great Lakes Theater production also allows for laughs, romance and satire aplenty. To summarize a Shakespeare comedy in few words is near impossible. Let’s just say that relatives are at war with each other and as a result some escape to the countryside. ---- *Bottom Line: Never mind quibbles — Great Lakes’ *As You Like It *is a vibrant production that celebrates fantasy and love and escape. It also reminds us that, happily, Clevelanders, too, enjoy both forests and meadows in our Metroparks. For more information contact: Ray Caspio raycaspio(a)gmail.com PRESS RELEASE “The Wall” explores isolation, self-discovery, and fear around the metaphorical barriers created during COVID-19 Cleveland-based performance artist Ray Caspio’s “The Wall” reveals the artist’s inner struggles in quarantine while challenging participants to confront barriers constructed by society and self. Cleveland (March 31, 2023) – Isolation. Fear. Mortality. As a global society, we faced these challenges head-on during the early days of the COVID-19 Pandemic. While these are universal concerns, the pandemic only further separated society - creating walls between each other and within ourselves. Cleveland-based performance artist Ray Caspio explores these themes in “The Wall,” a portrait of self, society, and confronting hidden truths, in which the artist dissolves their walls through visual art and durational performance. “The Wall” is centered around a 6’4” x 6’4” wall of text from Caspio’s studio composed of automatic writings recorded during their 18-month isolation. The result is a dreamlike meditation on loss, Self, sexuality, and memory inviting participants to face the walls we erect around ourselves. “The Wall”'s raw vulnerability and immersive reflection in a time of lies, chaos, and fear of "the other" is a journey of acceptance toward the wholeness of ourselves, and each other, before our time is through. "The space and performance will evolve throughout the seven-week process,” said Caspio. “It will be an organic performance as I respond to who and what is in the space each time, culminating in a nine-hour performance to close the installation." They possess a visceral vulnerability and irreverent humor that opens an authentic conduit between the artist and their audience collaborators. Their performances have been recognized as “magical” and “intensely honest and unflinching,” with Ray being called “a shapeshifter” and “one [person] tour de force.” Caspio’s creations have been performed at The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA), BorderLight Fringe, Theater Ninjas, and Cleveland Public Theatre’s Pandemonium. Caspio’s work appeared on “Best of” lists for Scene Magazine and WCPN’s The Sound of Applause. Ray was profiled by Scene as “The Thespian'' of 2014. Caspio founded Michael Chekhov Center Cleveland to share their understanding of Chekhov’s psychophysical performance principles with Northeast Ohio artists.
