For Immediate Release December 12, 2022 Cleveland, OH - The Cleveland Asian Festival (CAF) is a grassroots festival that highlights Cleveland's AsiaTown, Diversity, and Asian Culture in Northeast Ohio. It was organized in 2010 by volunteer community leaders to celebrate Cleveland's diversity and Asian Pacific American Heritage month (May). CAF has always been considered as the festival that kicks off summer. The mission of CAF has remained the same over the years: * Strengthening the identity of AsiaTown and supporting its economic growth * Educating and promoting Asian culture and traditions * Celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Cleveland's Diversity * Uniting Cleveland's Asian Community Johnny Wu, one of the founders of CAF says, "The economic impact that CAF has generated for the AsiaTown neighborhood and businesses is significant. People who attend not only shop and eat that weekend but a large percentage return to AsiaTown throughout the year after experiencing it at CAF." Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is an important recognition of the contributions of the AAPI community and a chance to stand together against recent anti-Asian sentiments. CAF attracts the Asian community but also groups representing the numerous diverse ethnic heritages of Cleveland. Lisa Wong, president of OCA Greater Cleveland and one of the founders of CAF, says "We're excited about being able to gather together again for the upcoming Cleveland Asian Festival and the opportunity to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month this May. "This was our first time seeing a show at Talespinner, and our whole family loved it! It was a great way to introduce our kids to theater at a kid-friendly theater. The Ekphrastacy literary program is a series of artist talks + poetry readings held regularly in the Heights Arts gallery, in conjunction with special exhibitions. Cleveland-area writers are invited by the current Poet Laureate to view the installed artworks and respond with a poem. Four weeks after the exhibition opens, the artists talk about their work and the poets read their poems, often resulting in a surprising dialogue. BorderLight Fringe Festival 2023 announces a Call for Artists<https://www.borderlightcle.org/apply/> (closes Feb. 28)! The BorderLight Festival returns in 2023 with our first all-Fringe festival and we invite you to apply! This continental festival will take place over three days in late July or early August (dates tbc soon!). In previous years, BorderLight was a biennial festival, bringing national and international artists to Cleveland. In summer of 2023, instead of going dark in the 'off' year, we are creating an all-fringe festival focused on domestic artists. (International work will return in 2024!) You bring your work, while BorderLight provides a venue, box office, marketing support, and free events like an Opening Night Party and a Fringe Awards Ceremony. 70% of box office revenue is returned to artists. Plus, see all the Fringe you want! See other shows in the festival for free on a standby basis. The BorderLight Fringe Festival will take place in the Playhouse Square neighborhood of downtown Cleveland and feature half local artists. Calling all Cleveland/Akron choreographers! Applications to choreograph for Cleveland Dance Project's Season 11 Showcase are now open! Choreographers are expected to hold weekly rehearsals and create a new short work (less than 4 minutes long) on our adult dancers of all levels (beginner to professional) for a showcase on April 29. Choreographers are compensated with rehearsal space, high quality video and photo of their work, free CDP showcase tuition if they'd like to dance in other pieces, and have a small costume budget to work with. CDP will connect you with dancers and space, and your work will be seen by ~1000 local supporters of dance! Ex-pop singer Angela Andrews is trapped in a hateful marriage with film producer Sol Sussman. Desperate to find happiness with her younger lover, an out-of-work TV actor named Tony Parker, Angela murders her husband with the aid of a poisoned suppository. In a plot that reflects Greek tragedy as well as Hollywood kitsch, Angela's Elektra-like daughter Edith convinces Angela's emotionally disturbed son Lance that they must avenge their father's death by killing their mother. Lance, demanding proof of Angela's crime, slips some LSD into her after-dinner coffee. Angela is plunged into a wild acid trip that reveals that she killed not only the children's father but also their mother; she isn't their mother at all, but rather their Aunt Barbara.
