*Avenue Arts proudly announces auditions for... * *THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE!* *AUDITIONS WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE W.G. FRY THEATRE LOCATED INSIDE THE CULTURAL CENTER FOR THE ARTS!!* *Located at 1001 Market Ave. N Canton, Ohio 44702* SYNOPSIS: An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. *"THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE" is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI)* Director: David Lee Musical Director: Jared Sparks Choreographer: Sarah Jane Toy Stage Manager: Ginette Jaramillo Assistant Stage Manager: Emily Hisey Auditions will be held on Monday, November 7th and Tuesday, November 8th from 7-9pm Callbacks (if necessary) will take place later in the week, date TBD. All auditioners are asked to come prepared with 32 bars of a prepared song in the appropriate key that reflects the style of the show (please do not sing from the show). An accompanist will be provided. At this time, there are no stipends and/or AEA contracts being offered! *VACCINATION INFO: *In order to be considered for casting, all auditioners are required to provide proof of vaccination at their scheduled audition time. A Continued World Premiere play inspired by Cleveland's Consent Decree with the U.S. Department of Justice. OCTOBER 27 - NOVEMBER 12, 2022 Cleveland, OH - Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is proud to present the continued world premiere of Breakout Session (or Frogorse) by Nikkole Salter, directed by Beth Wood, onstage in CPT's James Levin Theatre from October 27 through November 12, 2022. Breakout Session (or Frogorse) was commissioned by CPT with funding from the National New Play Network (NNPN). Having been preempted by Covid-19 in the 2019/2020 season, and again in the 2021/2022 season, the production is making its continued World Premiere. ABOUT the PLAY Can a society legislate a change of heart? In Breakout Session (or Frogorse), inspired by Cleveland's Consent Decree with the U.S. Department of Justice, a corporate training company is vying for the contract for anti-bias training with Cleveland's Police Department. When the white facilitator tosses the approved curriculum out the window, the session spirals. Can a mantis shrimp and a crocodile teach us about building trust and the strength of vulnerability? In 2017, CPT and nationally renowned award-winning playwright Nikkole Salter were awarded a National New Play Network (NNPN) Commission supporting the development of Breakout Session (or Frogorse), a new play inspired by Cleveland's Consent Decree with the U.S. Department of Justice. Breakout Session (or Frogorse) is born from an extensive research and interview process. Before setting pen to paper, Nikkole came to Cleveland to meet with community members, individuals working tirelessly in social justice, and the Policing Commission. She spent an hour and a half in conversation with former Mayor Frank Jackson and former Chief of Police Calvin D. Williams. The play asks the question: "how can we build two-way bridges of trust between us amidst systemic racism?" According to Raymond Bobgan, CPT Executive Artistic Director: "Nikkole's voice is bold and subtle, layering in unexpected discoveries as her work unfolds. She guides audiences down the path of self- and social critique, until even long-held beliefs and biases begin unraveling. We were thrilled when Nikkole accepted this commission because we believed her unique voice could support our community's work against oppression and toward equity." We hope you'll join Talespinner Children's Theatre for our final weekend of performances of Aponibolinayen in the Sky: A Tale of the Philippines! Written by Elana Hunter and Les Hunter, and directed by Carrie Williams. Inspired by a classic Filipino folktale and reimagined for modern audiences, this is the magical story of a girl who gets carried into the sky by a vine and falls in love with the Sun. After Aponibolinayen (also known as Apo) leaves her village, she finds herself not only exploring a new world but also who she is. Created in collaboration with Dr. Zeny Jandi and the Philippine American Society of Ohio (PASO). This family-friendly production (recommended for ages 6+) closes its run this weekend at Reinberger Auditorium (5209 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102) Friday, October 21st at 7 p.m., Saturday October 22nd and Sunday October 23rd at 3 p.m. An ASL interpreted performance will be on October 23rd, made possible by the HEARD.
