Imagine Chagrin: Seeking Artists for Storefront Displays The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is looking for artists to bring art to local storefronts this coming fall. *Imagine Chagrin* aims to reinvigorate the Chagrin and Lee commercial center, support local businesses, and showcase the abundance of artistic talent in our community. The “Imagine Chagrin” exhibit dates are September 10 through October 8. SHAC is sponsoring *artistic **displays* for *storefronts* located along Chagrin Boulevard between Lee and Avalon Roads and along Lee Road between Chagrin and Van Aken. Include 3 digital images that represent the type of work you imagine producing. All work samples and applications must be submitted electronically. Work samples and applications must be submitted to SHAC via e-mail (info(a)shakerartscouncil.org) no later than *Friday 30 July* * 2021.* Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 years or older and live in the Greater Cleveland area so that the artwork can be installed on site. Selected artists will be assigned to a participating storefront and asked to use the resident business as a theme, e.g., food, hair, cellphones, paint, clothing, martial arts, etc. Business owners will have final approval of artwork. If submitting as a team each artist should complete an individual application and indicate they are part of a team. There are no entry fees. Artists will retain all copyrights to their artwork The work will be installed September 7-9, 2021. Artists who are selected will receive a modest stipend after the work is installed. Presented by the West Clinton Block Club in cooperation with Near West Theatre and the Northwest Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation, visitors will experience a lantern-lit, guided walking tour filled with artistic storytelling as they navigate the charming residential areas surrounding Gordon Square Arts District. In the tour, flash back to one hundred years ago by stepping into a world of Cleveland's most famous and infamous characters of a bygone, post-influenza-pandemic, era. The 1920s notably brought Cleveland some of its most beloved landmarks in Tower Terminal, The Gordon Square Arcade and the theatres of Playhouse Square. It marked an end to the long-fought women's suffrage movement, the beginning of a highly-contested prohibition, and the Jazz Age. The Cleveland baseball team even won a World Series! No matter 1921 or 2021, Historic Haunts promises a fun and unique fall experience for audiences of all ages. Roles available: * Near West Theatre is looking to cast 35-40 people, ages 14 and up, of all genders and ethnicities for this non-musical theatre acting opportunity. Prior theatre experience is not necessary, and both speaking and non-speaking roles are available. For supervision reasons, we are only able to cast ages 14 and up, however, youth ages 7 and up are invited to audition if a parent is also planning to audition and participate as a cast member. Individuals with special skills such as juggling, roller skating, sideshow, and street performer acts are encouraged to audition. Though an unpaid volunteer opportunity, this theatre experience pays dividends in community building. Scheduling: * Rehearsals: Sunday - Wednesdays, Aug 30 - October 7, Sunday afternoons and 6:30-9:30pm on weekdays. Cast will not be required to attend every night of rehearsals. Full cast is called August 30 & 31, and October 4 - 9. There are no rehearsals Labor Day weekend. It turned out so well that the Hudson Players are presenting 10 more short plays by Eric Coble - "10 Minutes to Cleveland," presented July 16 and 17 at 8:00 p.m and July 19 at 2:00 p.m. The plays will be streamed on YouTube, Hudson Cable HCTV (Spectrum Channel 1021) and the Hudson Players Facebook page. The cast includes: Jim Hagan, Jennifer Ranaudo Kubinski, Abby Longshore, Brian L. Pichola, Jesse Pollak, Brenda Redmond, Linda Ryan, Steve Ryan, Doug Vanek, Justin Wells, Kate Williams-Bernardo & Brenda Willis A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Coble was raised on Navajo and Ute reservations in New Mexico and Colorado. With an interest in theatre, he ultimately ended up at Ohio University where he earned an MFA in Acting. Along the way he started writing plays and the rest is history. His The Velocity of Autumn was presented on Broadway in 2014.
