Written by four-time Tony Award(r) winner Terrence McNally, this timely new play shows the aftermath of the AIDS crisis as Katharine, a lonely widow, unexpectedly visits the ex-partner of her son who died from the disease. Upon arrival, she discovers this man now has a husband and child. Their time together leads her to realize how much she missed, the life her son might have led, and how society has changed around her. Mothers and Sons ultimately shows the transformative nature of forgiveness and the evolving definition of family. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Xavier Cha <http://www.mocacleveland.org/exhibitions/xavier-chaabduct>’s performance-based works concern the body, self, and subjectivity within contemporary culture. She isolates elements of expression and communication, creating bare, abstract, and often illogical experiences. Cha’s new work *abduct*, consists of short films and live performances which present actors as they battle conflicting emotions. While outwardly (and non-linguistically) expressing an extreme emotion, such as livid rage, a more subtle emotion emerges from beneath the surface, like the corners of the actor's mouth distorting to suppress laughter. Both emotions function as foreign agents attempting to gain dominance, or hijack the vehicle of the actor's facial expression and body. >From January 29 – May 8, the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland will present the film component of *abduct* <http://www.mocacleveland.org/exhibitions/xavier-chaabduct> in our second floor Toby Devan Lewis Gallery. The Museum will also facilitate live performances in line with the project over the course of the exhibition. SEEKING TALENT: Actors able to express conflicting emotions, with no dialogue. Ages 18-75. All ethnicities. Approximately 5 actors will be selected. IN THE AUDITION: Express conflicting emotions simultaneously, one more extreme, the other subtly emerging from beneath the surface. For example (but not limited to), livid rage while the corners of the mouth suppress laughter, or ecstatic joy while the eyes well up in tears of sadness or frustration. The conflicting emotions are alienating to you, uncomfortable to wear, out of your control, like foreign agents battling for dominance over your facial expression. One emotion betrays the other. REHEARSAL AND PRODUCTION DATES: Deadline for submissions: Tuesday, November 10, 2015 Auditions: Sunday, November 22 and Monday, November 23, 2015 Final selection of actors: Monday, December 7, 2015 Rehearsals: Tuesday, January 26 – Wednesday, January 27, 2016 Performances: performances will be 10-15 minutes in length, and will take place several times over the course of each day. A final schedule will be determined in line with selected actors’ availability. Each actor must be available for a minimum of 2 performance dates. So, fall is upon us. Summer activities are winding down and school is in full swing. Which means we all have a little more free time on our hands. I know a whole lot of you folks out there have instruments, Guitars, Banjos, Basses particularly, that you want to play. You yearn to play, they are calling you from the closet, begging you to open up the case and make sweet sounds with them. But, you're at an impasse. There's something that's just blocking you from making the exact sounds you're hearing in your mind. Well, that probably won't ever change. If you're lucky. BUT I am 100% certain that I CAN help to show you some things you've never thought possible, guide you with any questions you have, and help to get you closer to being able to create the sounds you're hearing in you're head. In fact, I guarantee it, hit me up, come on over and hang out with me in my studio for a half hour or so and see. If it isn't useful to you, no harm no foul. If it is, and it will be, you just found yourself a teacher. Let's fill the world with better music. I can think of fewer things that are more important to the health and well being of this race of humanity we live in. I've never met anyone whose life wasn't enhanced in a positive way by picking up musical skills, help me to help you help yourself. Let's do this. Or if you don't want to travel, let's Skype. Swing dance in Lakewood this Friday with dance lessons and live music!

Please come and join us for a fun night of swing dancing to live music at the Lakewood Masonic Temple! This is the longest running swing dance in the Cleveland area. Over 150 people of all ages and abilities attend this swing dance. The cost of the dance is $12 per person or $10 for students and seniors with a valid ID. If you are brand new to the Get Hep Swing dances you may attend for only $5 your first time. Be sure to arrive in time to take part in the easy jitterbug lesson from 8pm to 9pm Immediately after the lesson (at 9 PM) Blues Deville will kick off an awesome night of music and swing dancing until 12am. We feature a variety of local and national swing, jazz, jump blues, big band and early rock and roll dance bands. You are welcome to join us just to enjoy the music. These events are fun even if you don't dance. Everyone is welcome to come and have fun with us at the swing dance. There is no need to have previous dance experience or a dance partner. Most people dress casually. The best shoes to wear are comfortable and not too sticky on the bottom. The Lakewood Masonic Temple is located at 15300 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio 44107. There is a parking lot in the back and plenty of street parking available too. Please enter the building through the front double doors.
