Christine Howey Traces Her Transgender Journey in 'Exact Change' She already crossed a gender line. Now this northeast Ohio critic is crossing another barrier to become a playwright/performer. The theatre has long been a safe haven for the LGBT community, on both sides of the proscenium arch. One reason is that the stage is often the first and frequently the only place to reflect, endorse or jumpstart social change. In fact, a new breed of plays about life in the LBGT community is slowly replacing the necessarily political and typically tragic plot points found in such groundbreaking 1980s and '90s plays as The Normal Heart, Torch Song Trilogy and Angels in America. Dramas like Geoffrey Nauffts's Next Fall, for instance, simply place the everyday concerns of Americans in a queer context, while Alexi Kaye Campbell's The Pride shows the contrast between life for gay men in the '50s and today. Modern musicals like Kinky Boots serve to support the normalization of nontraditional gender identification-and do so with a candy coating. Yes, things are changing. “NIGHTS IN THE HEIGHTS” FREE OUTDOOR ROCK CONCERT AND CRUISE-IN The City of Broadview Heights is pleased to host the firstof its three outdoor rock concerts. Itwill be held Friday, June 19, rain orshine, from 7PM to 10PM. Sponsors include the City of Broadview Heights and theBroadview Heights Community Foundation, as well as Dunkin Donuts, Dicillo andAssociates, Goddard School, Faulhaber Funeral Home, and the Broadview HeightsSpotlights. It will take placeon the Broadview Center grounds in the pavilion near the football field. Therewill be plenty of free parking as well as shelter in the event of rain. Food andadult beverages will be available for purchase. The concert will feature the band “Everything Must Go”, which is noted for its rock music from the70s, 80s and 90s. There will be a “Cruise-In” hosted by Next Level AutoDetailing with specially designated parking area for the vehicles. Moniesraised from Cruise-In activities will be donated to a pre-designated localcharity. This concert series, which is in its third year, is thebrainchild of several Broadview Heights residents who are co-chairing the committee. Auditions for the 10/10 New Plays Festival at Chagrin Valley Little Theater

Auditions for the very popular 10/10 New Plays Festival will be held Sunday, June 7 at 4:00pm and Monday, June 8 at 7:00pm in the "Red Barn" building right next door to CVLT's Main Stage Theater. Callbacks will be June 11. Almost 900 10 minute plays were submitted! Ten of them have been chosen for production. We are looking for a company of actors from 18 years old to 80! Production dates are July 24 though August 15; Fridays and Saturdays only. Auditions will consist of reading from the scripts. Summary: About 76% of the time a child iskidnapped by a stranger they are dead within the first three hours. ForDetective Hunchinson, more commonly known as Hunch, that clock starts now. Thisstory takes us on a thrilling ride with Detective Hunch and his family as wesee what lengths A Fathers Love will go in order to bring hisdaughter back home. A Fathers LoveCharacter Description Hannah (Female, 25-30, must have lighterskin because of other casting choices): A strong woman with polish, and apast, and she carries it all on her shoulders and behind a smile. Lerch (Male, 40-60): A disabled retiredcop who has been through so much he can’t help but laugh at it all. Was thepartner of Hunch’s father. Has a dry sense of humor. Hurt in incident on thejob that killed Hunch’s father. Gino (Male, 20-35): A very intelligentguy on the wrong side of law, but not necessarily justice. Must have a verystrong presence and intensity in his eyes. Experience with fight choreography isa plus. Not your average criminal. Havoc (Male, 30-45): Must be a mammothof a man. Very large. Commits crime out of necessity. Must be able to showcasea soft side. Fight choreography experience is a plus. Chaos (Male or Female, 20-35): Afollower in the group. Doesn’t really make own decisions. Tries best to notcause any waves. Fight choreography experience a plus Mayhem (Female or Male, 20-30): A verynasty person. Fight choreography experience a plus. Must give the audience aperson to hate. Damage (Female or Male, 20-35): Acharacter in the middle of the road and go either way, but is easily persuadedby Mayhem. Fight choreography experience a plus. Ross (Male, 40-60): Police Chief being damageddown by the job and tries his best to make everyone happy, only problem iseveryone’s happiness often conflicts. Must be a very lovable guy with charm andcompassionate in his eyes. Father figure to Hunch who promised to take care ofhim when his father was killed in an incident on the job. Rogers (Female, 23-30): Rookiedetective with an amazing intuition. She just gets it, and gets it fast. Eagerto prove she belongs in this world and is ready for the challenge.
