This is the philosophy of Wandering Aesthetics’ Storyteller and Education Director, Kyle Jozsa. He gives children the opportunity to create and tell their stories in a fun and safe environment. Jozsa will introduce the students to important theatrical concepts including stage presence, character creation and teamwork. Together, using basic fairytale story structure, Jozsa and his classes will create and present their own story. Each two-week long summer camp will introduce students to the basics of live performance. In the morning, in his engaging style, Jozsa will teach students the fundamentals of theatre. In the afternoon, students will collaborate to craft a fairy tale of their choosing in an atmosphere of cooperation and playfulness, culminating in a final performance for friends and family. Students should bring a brown bag lunch. *About the Instructor:* Drawing on a work ethic derived from his path to Eagle Scout, Kyle Jozsa co-founded the physically oriented theatre company, Wandering Aesthetics. Kyle serves as Wandering Aesthetics’ Co-Artistic Director, Education Director and primary Storyteller. His responsibilities include: shaping the vision of the company, devising and performing new pieces of theatre and designing, implementing and teaching curricula. Kyle participated in an intensive summer training program at Double Edge Theatre in Asheville, MA. He recently made the transition to solo performer with Wandering Aesthetics’ “Mountain Cycle” – a series of 3 one-man performances about his hike of the 2,186-mile Appalachian Trail. Kyle has been teaching children ages 2 - 14 for the past 5 years; they constantly inspire him. Intertwining real-life experiences with campfire stories collected on their adventure, Jozsa conjures Boogers, Witches and Haints off the AT and into the imagination. There are many chills, thrills, and laughs sprinkled throughout this hour-long solo performance. **There is minor graphic/adult language that may make this unsuitable for children under 10. It’s 1968! Tune in as America’s swinging sweethearts-- Pete Bartel (Mike Guffey) and Keely Stevens (Tina Starkey) -- a formerly married couple are reunited for a live television special re-living their illustrious musical career on TV, in Las Vegas showrooms, and at the top of the hit parade. The only catch – they haven’t spoken since their big breakup at Caesar’s Palace five years ago.As the show has it, Pete and Keely had their popularity in the 1950’s and 1960’s -- apparently intended as a sort of second tier Steve and Eydie, though less accomplished and certainly less compatible. By 1968 a few years after their divorce, each is in a career slide, with slow selling solo albums and bus and truck tours of musicals. The TV special is meant to put Pete and Keely back on top. Can they conceal their apparent mutual animosity?This Off-Broadway musical hit is packed with classic favorites like Besame Mucho, Secret Love,This Could Be the Start of Something Big, and Fever.This nostalgic revue style musical is directed by Marc C. Perhaps you've read the novel or seen the film, but you haven't experienced Big Fish until you've seen the musical onstage! The relationship between Will and his father is strained as Will struggles to find the truth behind the larger than life tales he was told as a boy, and his father nears the end of his battle with cancer. When the fiction begins to fade and the facts of his father's life then and now become clear, Will must make peace with whom both he and his father truly are. Infused with magic and heart, Big Fish is the kind of production that reminds audiences how amazing live theatre can be! Edward Bloom (Male 30-45): Star vehicle; originally played by Norbert Leo Butz; a loving husband and father who leads a complex imaginary life with many fantasy friends; requires a strong singer-actor who ages from 15 to 60 and moves well; a huge heart, a great sense of humor and a vivid imagination (bari-tenor) Will Bloom (Male 25-35): Edward's son, a realist and a pragmatist; and the polar opposite of Edward. His journey of reconciliation with his father is the story of the musical. This is the second male lead and requires a strong actor who sings beautifully (tenor) Young Will (Male 6-10): Edward's son at an early age; inquisitive and idolizes his father. Requires a young boy who looks 6 or 7; will have several lines to memorize and a small amount of singing/dancing (tenor) Sandra Bloom (Female 30-40): Edward's wife, a loving wife who completely understands her husband and who seeks and believes in the possibility of reconciliation between her husband and son. This is the leading female role that requires an actor who ages from 18 to 60 and who is both a strong actress and singer and moves well (soprano with mix/belt) Josephine Bloom (Female 25-35): Will's wife, a lovely young woman who provides balance for Will's pragmatism. With Sandra, she supports and helps guide Will's journey toward reconciliation with his father. This supporting female role requires a strong actor-singer (mezzo with mix/belt) Karl (Male 25+): a giant, one of Edward's fantasy friends. This supporting role requires an actor who is 6'2" or over - the taller the better. Through Edward's friendship, he grows from being a 'beastly' outcast to a highly successful businessman. This supporting role requires an actor who acts, sings, has an appreciation for comic irony, and may stilt walk (bass) Amos Callaway (Male 30+): a werewolf, another of Edward's fantasy friends. Masquerading as a ringmaster of a brokendown circus, he begins as Edward's tormentor but then, through Edward's acceptance, he accepts himself and becomes highly successful. This supporting role requires a comic actor who sings and moves well (baritone) Don Price (Male 25-40): Edward's childhood frenemy, an early buddy, bully and rival for Sandra's hand. This supporting role requires a strong actor with a comic sensibility, a good singer and has movement skills (baritone) Zacky Price (Male 25-40): Don's younger brother, nerdy and always tagging along. This supporting role requires a strong actor with a comic sensibility, a good singer and has movement skills (baritone) The Witch (Female 18+): the earliest and most fantastic of Edward's "imaginary" acquaintances who shows him how he'll die. This supporting role requires a strong singer-dancer with commanding presence (mezzo with high belt) Jenny Hill (Female 25-40): the other woman, one of Edward's early childhood friends who he forgets but then who later becomes the recipient of his kindness. This supporting role also requires a good actress, singer, and mover who ages from 18 to 60 (mezzo with mix/belt) Dr. Bennett (Male 40+): Edward's physician, the experienced and wise country doctor. Singing a plus, but not required. A Note About The Ensemble: Many of the above characters will double as ensemble taking on wedding guests, townspeople, circus performers, etc. A small number of actors may be added to fill out featured ensemble roles including the Mayor of Ashton, Fisherman and Alabama Lambs.
