*HATHAWAY BROWN THEATRE INSTITUTE* *PRESENTS “LITTLE WOMEN” JULY 17-26* *Louisa May Alcott's classic coming-of-age story comes alive in a vibrant new play adaptation* Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute continues its 2015 summer season of hits with the family-friendly play *Little Women, **in a fresh adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's famous novel by Scott Davidson, presented at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, from July 17 to July 26.* Set during the American Civil War, this timeless and enduring classic traces the March sisters’ journey from childhood to maturity as they experience life's joys and disappointments. Audiences of all generations will enjoy acquainting — or reacquainting — themselves with the sisters: Meg, the eldest; Jo, the high-spirited tomboy; Amy, the self-centered beauty; and gentle Beth, as well as their beloved Marmee and Father. Penned by Louisa May Alcott 140 years ago, this much-loved classic tale’s message is still relevant for audiences today. Performances are Friday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday July 18 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m., Friday July 24 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. The show is presented in the Black Box Theatre at the Hathaway Brown School, 19600 North Park Blvd., Shaker Heights, Ohio 44122. Tickets are $11-15 and can be purchased online at www.hb.edu/tickets, by calling 216-932-4214 x7270 or at the door (if available) the day of the performance. Seating is limited in the Black Box Theatre so reservations are encouraged. Directed by India Burton, LITTLE WOMEN will also feature set design by Ron Newell, costume design by Jackie Guerra, properties by Lydia Chanenka, lighting design by Scott Chapman and sound design by Andrea Nemeth. It boasts a cast of talented young HBTI students, including Riley Firehammer and Ryan Kacmar as Josephine March, Grace Wilkinson as Meg March, Marina DeNunzio as Beth March, Emma Blemester as Amy March, Josephine Reynolds as Marmee, Casey Wilcox as Aunt March, Gabe Griswold as Theodore Lawrence, Nathan Keller as John Brooke, Emmie Ferguson as Hannah, and more. Now in its third year, The Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute is part of the Performing Arts Department of the Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights for students 1st grade – college. HBTI offers three sessions (June 15-July 2, July 6-24 and July 27-August 7) with coursework in drama, dance and music. HBTI provides high-level training from working artists to young people interested in the performing arts, as well as professional-level production experiences. REAL.EDGE.DANCE SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVES RED Company will be offering two summer dance intensives at the new RED Dance Center located in Hudson, Ohio as part of the educational outreach mission of the new RED School of Modern Dance. Intermediate Level July 20-23, 2015 (Minimum age 12) Advanced Level August 10-13, 2015 (Minimum age 15) Both intensives will held from 4:30pm-8:30pm each day and will feature technique classes in Pilates Mat, Modern, Ballet, Modern-Ballet Fusion, Improvisation, and RED Repertory. These intensives are a great opportunity to train and experience professional modern and ballet technique classes from dedicated , knowledgeable, professional artists right here in Northeast Ohio. Review of "American Idiot" at the Beck Center for the Arts

Beck’s ‘American Idiot’ welcomes a new kind of tension Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics According to a 1994 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, the underground band Green Day was comprised of “snotty little Berkeley, California, punk kids… three cheeky monkeys who came to raid the bar and disappear.” Raid they did but disappear they did not. Earlier this year, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One reason was that, in 2004, they produced the Grammy Award-winning concept album “American Idiot,” which followed the story of Johnny, a young and angry anti-hero who chooses to leave home for the city to find his voice as a musician and to find a girl, but finds instead drugs and crippling malaise. His best friends choose other paths with equally disastrous results. The magazine referred to the album as “a 57-minute politically charged epic” written at a time when there was little socially conscious discourse in pop music. The review goes on to note that the band “may rail hard, loud and long against the hysteria of a paranoid country compromised and commoditized by a media monolith, but they also lament, sweetly, like romantic poets from the days of yore, about the way the innocent never seem to last.” And so, too, does the 90-minute punk rock opera that resulted from this work, which hit the stage in 2010 when there was little socially conscious discourse in Broadway musicals (the previous year’s Tony Award for best musical went to “Billy Elliot”).
