Cleveland Opera Theater is holding auditions for 3 roles in Previn’s “A Streetcar Named Desire,” running Dec. 4 and Dec. 6. Auditions by appointment are held on Thursday, Oct. 8th at the Cleveland Masonic Auditorium, E. 36th and Euclid Ave, from 6:00 – 8:00PM. Roles being cast: 1. Steve (tenor/speaking role): Stanley Kowalski's poker buddy. Steve is brutish, hot-blooded and an abusive husband. 2. A Doctor (speaking, non-singing role): Arrives at the play's finale to escort Blanche to an asylum. His image conforms to Blanche's notions of a chivalric Southern gentleman. 3. Pablo: (non-singing/non-speaking role) Another of Stanley's poker buddies. Pablo is Hispanic and emphasizes the cultural diversity of their neighborhood. WordStage presents A program of Civil War Love Letters In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the end of the Civil War “I am in hopes that I will get a whole package of letters from you in a few days. I never wanted to see you half as bad in all my life as I do now.” When he wasn’t marching, fighting, or setting up camp, the Civil War soldier might take a few moments to write to his loved ones at home. These letters often contain accounts of battles, life in camp, and general news. But many soldiers, as they marched off to face the enemy, had left behind a wife or sweetheart, and to them they would compose sweet, poignant, and occasionally funny letters that give life and personality to the participants in this great national conflict. These letters show their sorrows of being apart, fears that the soldier would not return home, and hopes for the future after the war’s end. The letters, presented by WordStage readers Tim Tavcar and Agnes Herrmann and underscored with the poignant music of the Civil War Era played by Jan C. Snow on the Hammered Dulcimer, portray the many facets of the soldiers in love. Originally commissioned by the Heights Libraries in February of 2015, this performance will take place at the Wright Chapel within the Lakewood Presbyterian Church complex, 14502 Detroit Avenue at Marlowe in Lakewood, OH – On Friday, September 25th at 7:30pm. We are still one teenage girl and one mid-20's male short for our new play "What Remains." The play will be presented as part of a week-long Arts Festival at the First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland at 3630 Fairmount Boulevard (at Eaton Road) in Shaker Heights. This production will be the world premiere of a wonderful story by playwright Max Bush and will be performed as follows. PERFORMANCE DATES: · 7:30 PM Friday, November 13 · 7:30 PM Saturday, November 14 · 2:00 PM Sunday, November 15 In Max’ own words, the following is a synopsis of the play. “Maggieis a talented young artist who is just a couple months away from graduatinghigh school. As the summer swiftly approaches she finds herself agonizing overserious life decisions. What is theright path for her future? Should shefollow her dreams and become an artist? Or should she do the sensible thing and go to college with her boyfriendMike?
